Chapter 11 - Shadows at Home

The house seemed smaller now, walls pressing in on her from every side. Every creak of the floorboards sounded louder, every whispered conversation carried sharper weight.

Her mother's voice was sharp, almost relentless. "Why can't you do anything right, Seo Yoon? Are you trying to embarrass us?"

Her father's glare followed her everywhere, a constant reminder that nothing she did was enough. "You think your grades matter? Look at yourself! Pathetic."

The words hit her like cold stones, and yet she didn't flinch. She had learned this long ago: showing fear only gave them more power. She swallowed her tears, folded her fear into a tight, invisible corner of her mind, and moved silently through the house.

Dinner was tense, every movement scrutinized, every word judged. A dropped spoon, a misstep in conversation—it was enough to trigger a storm of criticism. Seo Yoon nodded politely, smiled faintly, and kept her voice soft. She had learned to survive in silence, and silence had become her shield.

Later, in the quiet of her room, the walls felt safer, but not completely. Memories and words of the day clawed at her mind, but she traced the edges of her notebook and let her thoughts settle there.

Her parents could try to break her, control her, crush her spirit—but they could never touch the part of her that existed in the quiet, hidden corners of her mind. There, she was free. There, she planned. There, she fought.

She whispered again, a vow as fragile as it was strong: I will endure. I will rise. I will be more than they ever expect.

And for the first time, Seo Yoon realized that her fight wasn't just about surviving anymore. It was about winning.
