Chapter 34- The Estate (Part 1)
Rein felt as if the entire world around him had become much darker. The feeling of suffocation and pain he experienced in those fleeting moments was unlike anything he had experienced before. In his entire career as a hitman, he had never experienced such pain. It was like every bone in his body had turned into dust and was forced to experience every bit of agony that comes along with it.
He stared up at the dark sky, his eyes hazy as he tried to breathe through his nose. His body and Life Essence were working overtime trying to repair all the damage he suffered at that moment. Luckily, his Regeneration speed was 3.5x times that of an average human, so these injuries weren't going to kill him. That didn't make the healing experience any more bearable.
'Fuck… I really pushed my boundaries there…' He thought to himself as he leaked a small, pained groan. 'I almost died had I not reacted fast enough.'
"Rein!!"
At that moment, in the far distance, he heard a voice calling for him. Eventually, he saw a silhouette crouch down next to him as she leaned over his head, her face filled with worry and panic.
"Rein!!" She yelled as she tried to lift him up from the ground. "Oh no! He's bleeding so much! We need to get him medical help immediately!"
"And where are we going to find medical help?" Alex asked as he looked down, frowning at Rein's state. He looked so destroyed that he felt like he was looking at a corpse. However, somehow, the man wasn't dead, or even unconscious for that matter. He could see in his dreadful eyes that he was still alive and kicking.
'This freak of nature…' He clenched his fists. 'He actually somehow killed that bear...'
"We can't go back to the base," Alex said.
"..." Violet clenched her teeth as she looked up, trying to think of what to do next. It was indeed not a good idea to track back since they were very far away from the base. At the same time, Rein needed immediate help, or he might die.
"We… We need to keep going." She said as she leaned down and pulled Rein up, putting his hand around her shoulder. "Where my parents should be, they have an infirmary. If we can just stop the bleeding."
"..." Alex stared at her for a second before he nodded.
"Help me, Alex. We need to carry him there. It's very close by."
Luckily, they had already covered a huge distance toward their destination, so the distance left wasn't that big.
With an annoyed look, Alex walked around and grabbed Rein's arm a little too tightly. The two then started walking toward their destination.
"Hold on, Rein. Please stay with me. You will be fine." Violet said with a wavering tone. 'I won't let you die.'
***
The last location where Violet's parents were was the family's estate. A massive compound where her family lived and worked. Since Violet came from an extremely wealthy family, her family owned several companies and even a renowned clinic in a different city.
Her mother was a doctor, and her father was a businessman, and both were extremely successful in their own fields. Violet, being the daughter of two such great people, was expected to achieve that success too or even exceed it.
However, against their will, Violet decided to work on something nobody could even imagine. Being a data analyst and an agent for the Agency was a very secretive and dangerous job, but Violet simply wanted to defy her parents and find her own path against their will.
As much as she loved them, she simply didn't agree with the way they tried to force her to mold to their expectations.
"... So this is your estate?" Alex asked as they turned around a corner to see a large wall that stretched far to the left and to the right with huge trees covering it.
"Yeah… Let's go, the door is on the other side." Violet said as she rushed their steps toward the gates. There were a few Undead roaming around, which they quickly took care of. After killing so many, they were now each Level 5 and 4, respectively, and their stats were very decent, so these monsters didn't hold a chance.
Walking to the gates, Violet put her hand against the touch pad. Luckily, the pad was still working, so it scanned her hand and then lit with a green light. The gates slowly started opening.
'So advanced…' Alex thought to himself as he watched the gates open to the estate. He knew that Violet came from a rich family, but he had never visited her house before, since he could never ask for such a thing. But he was quickly shaken out of his daze as Violet started pulling Rein in.
The interior of the estate was just as mesmerizing as the outside. Large gardens to the left and right of them, a path carved out of stone that led to the large villa, with several other paths diverging to other large facilities within the estate.
Each building had its own use, and each one was equally important.
"No Undead inside…" Alex said as he looked around. "That's a good sign." He said.
"Let's go. My parents could be in the villa." Violet said as she pulled Rein with her and rushed to the Villa door. There were no signs of infiltration or anything happening, which made her quite hopeful.
Many conflicting emotions filled her heart: panic at her Rein's condition, and hope that her parents were inside.
Pulling the keys out of her pocket, she shakingly put them in the keyhole and twisted. The door opened slightly before she pushed it to the full extent and yelled.
"Mom! Dad! Are you here?!" She yelled. 'The lights are on. Did they turn on the generator?' She asked herself as she squinted at the bright lights. The interior was quite warm and illuminated. This entire compound had entire generators in case of electricity outages, like the one that just happened.
The trio walked in with Rein still unable to talk or even comprehend what was happening.
Violet summoned her cycle and formed a ball of wind in her hand, ready to attack anything that might jump at her.
"Mom! Dad! It's me, Violet! Where are you?!" She yelled again as fear started to creep into her heart.
"Violet!"
At that moment, and as things felt like they were about to darken, she suddenly heard a voice that made her eyes light up.
"Mom?!"
A woman came rushing from the second floor down the stairs. She looked quite like Violet, except considerably older.
"Mom!"
"Violet!"
Violet smiled widely at her mother as she opened her free hand and hugged her tightly when she got close. Her eyes tearing up.
"I'm glad you're safe… I'm truly glad you're safe…"
"Oh, Violet…" Her mother said with a shaky tone, fighting the urge to cry. "I'm so happy you're safe, sweety. I'm so happy…"
"Is dad and Emily fine?" Violet asked.
"Yes… When everything happened, we didn't leave the house and remained hidden. We wanted to go out and look for you, but we didn't know where you were…"
"Violet!!"
"Big sis!"
At that moment, two other people emerged before them.
