Chapter 8 - Chapter 8- Chaos

Chapter 8- Chaos

Being the hitman that he was, Rein had faced countless dangerous situations in his life. Ones that almost killed him, and ones that he survived purely with his instincts and immense talent. One of the reasons for that was his ability to come up with ideas even the most ridiculous minds couldn't fathom, let alone think of.

He would do things that others would look at and think that he was unhinged or suicidal. Yet, they always work in some way. Rein felt like he was simply meant to be that ridiculous person.

This instance was nothing different. Instead of running, Rein decided to run back inside the building. The same building he wanted to escape before it collapsed.

The monster, meanwhile, was trying to pull its head out to try to fly after him. However, it was surprised to see Rein jump in again as he stopped a few meters away from it.

"I'm here, ugly bird." He said. "You want to eat me, no? Come on, give it a try."

His words were very sarcastic, and he knew that would get the monster even more riled up. Much to his expectations, the eagle screeched as it dug deeper into the building, slamming its head left and right as it tried to reach Rein.

The latter stepped back as he dodged its beak, moving ever-so-slightly to make sure it kept trying to reach him.

*CRACK*

The roof and walls made loud sounds as the cracks spread rapidly with each hit. The buildings' pillars started giving in one by one while Rein watched silently, aware of everything.

'Yeah, keep going.' He smiled. 'Keep slamming your big head around. I want you to break everything.'

The more he dodged the monster, the more it got riled up and more aggressive.

*CRACK* *CRACK*

Eventually, however, Rein reached a closed corner, with no other spot to move. The monster kept pushing its head in as it opened its beak wide.

'Shit.' Rein's expression darkened as he looked left and right. He didn't know what to do exactly. 'Come on, come on, come one.'

Pressing against the wall, the beak was merely inches away from him. Sucking a deep breath, Rein suddenly felt something.

*CRACK*

His eyes shot up at the same exact time when the ceiling cracked the final time before it collapsed in one single instance. Tons and tons of rock and debris fell at the same time, all on the eagle's head.

The creature shrieked loudly as the heavy weight slammed into its skull. It immediately tried to pull its head out.

"No, you don't." Rein used that opportunity as he lunged forward with his sword, manifesting at the same time.

*Swish*

Thrusting forward, the sword stabbed straight through its eyes.

The monster's cry shook the entire world, threatening to break Rein's eardrums as its head started slamming left and right in a frenzy. Blood gushed out of its eye endlessly.

"AGH!" Rein was thrown off as he slammed into the wall. He felt all the breath being knocked out of his lungs. Meanwhile, rocks kept falling down everywhere.

'I… need to leave!' Clenching his teeth, Rein stood up and rushed toward the window, trying to avoid the monster's rampage. Jumping out, he barely dodged the large rock that fell where he had stood earlier.

Rolling on the ground, he rose from the ground and tried to run. The building was collapsing before his eyes.

*BOOOOOM*

All pillars gave in before the entire structure finally started falling. A large amount of debris and dust exploded everywhere, hitting Rein in the back as he fell to the ground.

Meanwhile, the monster tried to pull itself out, realizing the disaster it was facing. By that time, however, it was far too late. As the entire structure came down on its, its resistance suddenly stopped as all its body slumped to the ground.

"Hah… Hah… Hah…" Rein breathed heavily as everything went quiet again. He stared up, eyes wide, his entire body covered in dust and blood, looking wretched as ever as he looked at the pile of debris.

"..." Sniffing, he coughed. 'Shit, that hurts.' He cursed. Then, he stood up as he held his side. "I don't get paid enough to do this."

As the notifications rolled in, Rein's face froze before a smile drew on his lips. An intense amount of energy started filling his pained body as a soothing sensation took over. He felt as if his injuries were starting to heal faster than before, and his body was recovering quicker.

"I got the kill… Nice…" He muttered as he climbed the pile of debris and stared at the dead monster. Its body was motionless and dead. 'This thing was so nasty. But how did it even get this strong so fast? Are there far worse creatures out there already?'

If a Bald Eagle were to grow to the size of a jet this fast, then what could happen in a day? Two days? A month since everything started?

Would Rein face abominations that his mind cannot imagine?

The question was terrifying on its own. However, at the same time, by then, how strong would Rein be?

'I would assume I'm going to be far stronger than now.'

*Ptuh*

"I need to leave before I regret staying here." Cursing, he picked his bag up and started running again. The sky above him was already covered in clouds of dust and smoke, and the only smell entering his nose was that of blood and death.

Rein didn't plan to be a part of that.

***

The agency headquarters. A large skyscraper in the heart of the city, where the biggest business district is. Naturally, its activities were a mystery, and most people don't even know that this was an intelligence and assassination agency. In the eyes of the public, that skyscraper was that of a massive law firm.

That kept all their business completely anonymous, and so did most of their members and workers.

Being in the heart of the city naturally meant that most people were there, and where people are, Undead were bound to be found. Lots and lots of undead.

Rein reached around the corner as he peeked at the plaza.

'As expected.'

Countless monsters roamed that place. Easily hundreds or even thousands. They were barely even fitting within that place. On the other side was the building.

'I cannot fight all those things even if I wanted to. I have to somehow sneak around.'

As he was trying to find a way around, Rein suddenly heard something behind him. Quickly, he hid himself and peeked.

There, a large tank appeared on the road, then another one, then another one. An entire fleet of them moved through the street, right toward the plaza.

Then, troops of soldiers moved around them with guns in their hands.

"Spread into formation. We need to eradicate these bastards."

"Yes, sir!"

He heard the commands as the men rushed toward the hordes of Undead.

"Take aim!"

The squads aimed their guns as the Undead noticed them and started running toward them.

"Shoot!!!"

Immediately, they opened fire, sending countless shots toward the monsters. At the same time, the tanks behind them aimed at the far side before they blasted their shells. Large explosions erupted everywhere as bodies flew in the air.

Most of the front line of the horde was riddled with bullets as they fell to the ground dead.

"Hmm, they don't seem like they have the system yet… Their behavior is rather too normal for that." He frowned. 'Could it be that only I got this power? Surely not?'

Something was amiss so Rein kept watching.

"Reload!"

"Second line, move forward!"

As the army tried to carve a path through the plaza, the hordes continued pushing forward. Their numbers were simply far too ridiculous to simply kill with bullets. Especially when these things only died with shots to the head, and any other spot wouldn't really do it.

In a matter of minutes, piles and piles of corpses filled the street as the army went all out.

"Sir! We are being outnumbered, sir!" A man rushed to his commander with a panicked look. "We aren't pushing them back much!"

"Don't stop shooting."

"... Yes, sir!"

Watching from afar, one could see that this wasn't working. These tank shells and bullets weren't cutting it.

"Raaaa!!"

It didn't take long for the hordes to get close… Dangerously close.

"We need to retreat…" One soldier muttered as the realization dawned on him and the fear crept into his heart. "We need to retreat!!"

However, by then, it was far too late.

'Poor bastards. This will be really ugly.' Rein sighed as he turned around and decided to move. 'I should be able to sneak around in this chaos.'
