"Flo...."
"Floooo...."
I turned my head to see an old man walking towards me with a cup in his hands. Even though he looked so old that he couldn't even take a single step without help of a kane, he walked with firm steps like a seasoned warrior. Well i really think he might be one.
He stopped beside me and sat with a gentle demeanor, drinking tea feom his cup.
"Kid, it's about time you returned home".
"But i couldn't catch a single fish", i said while showing the empty bucket beside me.
"I already told you just putting the bait is not going to work, the fishes here are very swift. They will eat the bait and wink at you and do their business before you could even blink. It's like you are giving them free meal".
"Then you can teach me how to catch fish".
"That is also the topic we discussed earlier, i will slowly teach you everything you need for survival and more after you turn three".
"Why are you so stubborn about me turning three?", I grumbled under my breath.
"It's just our costom. Now get up, the sun is about to set. Mom is going to be woried if you stay any more", he stood and started walking.
"Yes...yes I'm coming". I stood up and dusted my pants.
*********
It's been almost three years since i woke up in this world. Most important thing i found out about this place was this is a place for exile. I could only see half a dozen or so faces for three long years. It is like a big island or another continent itself far from the mainland. That is why anyone who got exiled into this place cannot even dream of returning. I tried to prob mom and dad about the mainland and about their exile, but every time i bring up the topic, they would either change the topic or utterly refuses to answer by saying 'it is not time'.
I really don't know why they are holding their mouth shut.
Keeping my thoughts to my self i entered the small cabin. Mom was standing near the stove cooking something. When she heard me entering the cabin, the turned her head and looked at me with a warm smile.
"Hey young lad, where've you been, i guess you brought some fresh fish from the lake, I've been making the mixture well for frying ".
I take it back, it was not a warm smile, it's just her usual sarcastic one.
"I guess you are going to fry the air tonight sara". Dad said with a smirk.
"Can you two shut up, I'm starving". I tried to divert the topic.
"Oh, yes...yes, just wash your hands and sit. It will take a little bit".
I washed my hands and went near the table and sat.
'This world is not that bad', i thought. Even though the absence of modern technology and social media is making me itch, the calmness of this world made me feel in peace. It felt like finally something clicked inside me. Even though the technology and ways of entertainment in earth are numerous, i always felt like some hollowness inside me. It's like an itch that i couldn't Scratch. But here i felt like something filled that hollowness.
But don't get me wrong, this world and especially this island is not that Peaceful. There are monsters lurking in every corner of not only this island but the whole world. What made humans safe from monsters' attacks was most of the humans were also have monstrous strength and intelligence. Due to the presence of mana and other exotic resources, humans reached the pinnacle of stength, well that's what i was told.
As you know i never went to the main continent, where most of the humanity resides. I really wanted to see how this world fare against earth, but sadly i don't think i can ever reach there. There is a fucking ocean between this island and the mainland. But in the future, if i became powerful and found a method to traverse the ocean, i could witness the real 'magic' of the magic. But i don't think i can become that powerfull from these backwater island. I don't have any teachers to teach me about mana or combat.
'Oh God, why did you transmigrate me into the magic world, if you are going to prevent me from witnessing the beauty of it'.
While i was contemplating about existential crisis, mom came with the food and placed the tray on the table. The sweet aroma of rosted meat lingered in the air.
"Here you go. Eat well Flo, you need to get bigger for you to help Gerry in hunting".
"Hey dear, don't pressure him. Let him grow at his pace. Let him experience the wonders of childhood". Dad said while putting the meat to his plate.
"You just needed the bigger piece, didn't you? You don't have to make it so profound, why are you acting like a kid". I tried to argue.
"Come on kid, let this old man have something good before i go to meet God".
"Hey, you don't have to say it like that. You're making me guilty".
"Don't worry boy, i will tell God to wait a little bit more, well i have a gem to sculpt into some thing marvelous, isn't that right sara?"
"I can't disagree with that. Flo is really an unusual kid".
"Right? I am going to make him the greatest blacksmith".
"Oh! Am i the man who is gonna be the king of the blacksmiths?"
"You are the 'kid' who is gonna be the king of the blacksmiths".
"Now now dear, you are the one putting him in pressure".
"Well, can you blame me? Look at him those black hair and black eyes, doesn't he have an otherworldly beauty?"
Suddenly mom came from behind and hugged me saying, "well he does have an otherworldly cuteness"
I shaked her off, heat coming into my cheeks.
"Will you two both stay silent for a while. Atleast let me eat a little".
"Oh! Our little Flo is blushing".
'These two never shut up', i cursed in my mind. Talking to them will be more taxing than fighting monsters. I determined to stay silent and focus on the meal.
