Chapter 145 - The Trade Secret NDA

[The Omniverse - The Slums of Abyssal Outpost 42]

The air inside the damp, unregulated tavern beneath Abyssal Outpost 42 was freezing, smelling of stale ale, wet wool, and the toxic chemical ozone venting from the server farms. Flickering tallow candles cast long, distorted shadows across the cracked wooden tables.

Leo the hero leaned forward, his knuckles raw and bleeding against the rough timber. His visor was open, revealing eyes that were entirely bloodshot from sleep deprivation. He slipped a small, glowing green memory-crystal out of his leather tunic and slid it across the table toward a cloaked envoy from an un-colonized outer dimension.

"Take it," Leo whispered, his jaw tightening until his teeth ached. "This crystal contains the complete backend API documentation for Abyssal Dynamics. It proves Victor Thorne is artificially rigging the gacha drop rates, surge-pricing life-saving healthcare, and paywalling human language. Broadcast this to the free worlds. Expose the Tycoon."

The envoy reached out a trembling hand to take the crystal.

BZZZZT.

The green glow of the memory-crystal instantly turned a violent, flashing neon-magenta. The ambient temperature in the tavern plummeted to absolute zero, frosting the sour ale in the mugs.

A sleek, obsidian portal ripped open directly in the center of the tavern floor.

Victor Thorne walked out of the void, his impeccably tailored midnight-blue suit pristine and entirely untouched by the soot of the room. Seraphina stood a half-step behind him, her dark business attire perfectly pressed, her violet eyes scanning the room over the rim of her clipboard.

"Unauthorized data exfiltration detected," Seraphina stated with a chill, competent rasp.

Leo scrambled backward, his leather boots skidding on the damp stone floor as he reached for his sword. "Thorne! You can't stop the truth! The Free Press will broadcast this data across the cosmos!"

Applying his signature Corporate Twist, Victor didn't cast a fireball or a compliance spell. He took a slow, clinical sip of his black coffee.

"The truth is an un-patented asset, Leo," Victor said smoothly, his voice flat and terrifyingly steady. He tapped his gold-nibbed pen against the Tycoon's Ledger floating by his side. "But the proprietary code structure of Abyssal OS is a protected corporate trade secret. When you signed your initial Student Loan onboarding papers in Chapter 115, you agreed to a mandatory, non-negotiable Non-Disclosure Agreement. An NDA."

"I never agreed to cover up your crimes!" Leo shouted, his gauntlets creaking.

"You checked the box to download the Aegis of Dawn spell, which legally legally bound your consciousness to our compliance framework," Victor smiled a ruthless smile. He pulled out his gold pocket watch, checking the time. "Under Paragraph 9, Clause 4, the penalty for leaking proprietary corporate infrastructure is immediate physical asset recovery. Specifically, the repossession of the memories containing the leaked data."

Victor slashed his pen across the Ledger.

The green microchips embedded inside Leo's helmet flashed a blinding red. Leo let out a choked scream, falling to his knees as a wave of kinetic compression magic flooded his cerebral cortex. The memory of the rigged gacha algorithms, the financial spreadsheets, and the very concept of his rebellion were violently ripped out of his brain, leaving his eyes wide, blank, and completely hollow.

Victor adjusted his midnight-blue cuffs. "The data leak has been safely contained through cognitive deprecation. Seraphina, reassign Leo back to the mining pits. He has a blank schedule, and his quota has just been doubled for the next quarter."
