"It's just our destiny," Ben said with a grin.
"What nonsense—destiny?" Keva snorted and looked away, clearly annoyed.
He was so serious only to say things like it was "destiny."
"Well, you don't have to believe me if you don't want to," Ben shrugged.
"Let's go find my grandpa, then we will be traveling together for a while," Ben said, standing up.
"Wait, what about this place of mine? These gadgets and electronics? It took me a lot of effort to get these, you know?" Keva said, looking troubled.
After all, she fought a lot for these things.
There was another reason she didn't say.
Due to a complicated childhood and having supernatural abilities at a young age, Keva exhibited psychopathic tendencies and was willing to hurt or kill anyone for her personal gain.
This stemmed from being treated like a freak by her peers and other people and was only exacerbated by the negative mental side effects she experienced whenever she absorbed too much energy.
This caused Keva to live with many insecurities about herself;
she would embrace her "freak" title while also being paranoid of other people using it against her.
Her paranoia progressed to the point of considering everyone to be her enemy because, as she put it, "Nobody's innocent! They just haven't had the chance to make fun of me yet!''
After destroying their house, her mother's scolding, and being afraid of hurting her, Keva thus lived on the streets, committing various crimes and cruel acts of violence.
It's not that she didn't want to follow Ben… after all, he's also someone with powers like her, someone who can even defeat her.
Being with him, she wouldn't have to be afraid that he would call her a freak or something.
And she could be herself too, without any worries.
However, while she wanted to live like this, what if she accidentally slipped, lost control of her emotions, went on a rampage, and ended up hurting his family? What then?
Seeing her like this, Ben guessed her thoughts were likely related to her powers.
So he asked directly, "What's wrong? Is there any problem?"
"What if I suddenly go out of control and become a monster and hurt your family?" Keva bit her lip but still asked.
"Oh, so that's what it is… Although I'm touched that you're thinking about my family, you don't have to worry.
My cousin and Grandpa aren't exactly weak people, you see! My cousin has powers too, and as for Grandpa—he's strong, that's all.
So you don't have to worry. If there's ever a situation like that in the future, I'll handle it," Ben said with confidence.
"After all, you can't beat me anyway," Ben laughed.
"Hmph, jerk," Keva said and turned away, but if someone looked closely, she was smiling faintly.
"Alright, don't worry too much about it. Now, as for these electronics, just use the system inventory and put them inside…" Ben said.
He didn't care about these electronics at all.
After all, he possessed alien techs; even if he ran out of it, there were still many kind-hearted individuals in the world who would send those to him directly…
(Somewhere else, Vilgax inside the pod, and some other people suddenly felt a chill for some unknown reason.)
After that, Keva put everything inside the inventory.
"Wow, so convenient…" Keva marveled at this.
"It's just the beginning. There are still many exciting things waiting for us to discover," Ben said, calling out to her.
"Let's go, follow me!"
"Hmm," Keva nodded, then followed after him.
They returned to the hotel where they had met Grandpa Max.
"Ben, you're finally here! You were gone for so long—I was getting worried," he said, feeling relieved.
"Sorry, Grandpa. I was just checking out the arcade nearby and made a new friend here in New York… so it took some time," Ben said, pointing toward Keva, who stood nervously behind him.
Max raised an eyebrow and asked, "And who is this? Won't you introduce her to me, Ben?"
"Well, let me introduce my new friend. Her name is Keva Ethan Levin. And Keva, this is my grandpa, Max Tennyson."
"Hello, sir. Nice to meet you. I am Keva Ethan Levin," Keva said, looking up at him.
For a brief moment, Max thought about an old friend.
Then he smiled warmly. "Hi, I'm Ben's grandpa. You can just call me Grandpa Max, like they do."
"Hm, alright, Grandpa Max," Keva said happily. [A/N: Her character is a bit different from Kevin—just treat this as AU.]
"So, what's wrong, Ben? Do you want to say something?" Max asked, looking at him.
"Ahem… Grandpa, you know, she lives alone here, so I invited her to travel with us during the summer trip," Ben said.
Max thought about it, then looked at both Ben and Keva, who clearly seemed expectant.
"Also, you know she has powers too,like absorbing electricity , metals and other things and use them as weapons, but if she absorbs too much energy she loses control of her emotions and she can't control them yet . If she suddenly loses control of her emotions, she could accidentally hurt herself or others.
So, if she's with us, we can look out for each other," Ben explained seriously.
'So an Osmosian, huh? Just like him…' Max thought.
"Alright. If she wants, she can travel with us."
"Yeah!" Ben and Keva cheered together, high-fiving each other.
Keva looked at Max and thanked him.
"Thanks, Grandpa Max. I promise I won't cause too much trouble for you."
"Haha, don't worry, Keva. We already face a lot of trouble every day—it doesn't matter," Max said with a laugh.
"Alright, you can find your cousin and let her meet Keva. Then go and tour around the hotel—it's just for one night, you know. Let's enjoy ourselves," Max said before walking away to register Keva's information too .
"Alright, let's go," Ben said.
"Hm," Keva nodded and followed him.
After some time, they finally found Gwen, who was lying on one of the lounge chairs near the hotel pool, a magazine book resting on her face as she relaxed.
"Gwen!" Ben called out.
She flinched slightly, lifting the book and glaring at him. "Why are you shouting Ben?"
"Um sorry about that ," Ben grinned. "Anyway, I want you to meet someone."
Gwen sat up, brushing her hair back as her eyes shifted toward Keva, who stood a little behind Ben, observing quietly.
"And who's this?" Gwen asked, her tone curious but cautious. She felt a little strange looking at her.
"This is Keva. She's gonna be traveling with us," Ben said casually.
Gwen raised an eyebrow. "Traveling with us?
"I already asked Grandpa Max. He said yes," Ben replied.
Gwen crossed her arms and looked at Keva more carefully, her gaze sharp as if trying to figure her out.
But no matter what, she could not describe her feelings. Her intuition told her ,that this black haired girl was kind of threatening to her. Yet not at the same time .
Keva shifted slightly under the scrutiny but didn't look away this time. "Hi… I'm Keva."
Gwen held her gaze for a moment longer before giving a small nod. "Gwen."
There was a brief silence.
Then Ben clapped his hands. "Alright! Now that everyone knows each other , let's go have some fun!"
"You're just looking for an excuse to mess around," Gwen said.
"Obviously."
Keva watched the two bicker, a faint smile forming again and followed them— Maybe… this wouldn't be so bad after all .
After playing around, the three went to the shopping area, where they bought some clothes—especially for Keva.
After all, she looked too much like a delinquent; she needed a change in her clothing style.
Although Keva was reluctant, since they insisted, she eventually agreed and changed her style—though not by much.
After spending time together, when Gwen learned about Keva's situation, she felt sad for her.
However, Keva didn't mind and told her not to worry, acting nonchalant about it.
Gwen and Keva naturally became best friends.
They both admired Ben a lot, and since they both had powers as well, these similarities helped them bond quickly.
They returned to the hotel and had their fancy dinner with Grandpa Max.
After that, they went to sleep.
