AURION CITADEL
The morning sun rose over Aurion Citadel.
Within the Founder Hall, Thomarion stood before a large table covered with ancient diagrams.
At the center lay the Sky Mantle.
The Grand Cape recovered from Solaris had arrived safely.
But despite several examinations, its true function remained unknown.
Thomarion had already tried activating its resonance.
Nothing.
The Mantle remained completely still.
He looked toward the ancient armor.
"There must be a way."
A faint resonance suddenly appeared across the hall.
Thomarion turned.
A communication device activated.
A familiar signal appeared.
VAERION.
Thomarion immediately opened the connection.
"Vaerion."
Vaerion's voice came through.
"You called."
"I need your help."
There was a brief silence.
"With what?"
Thomarion looked toward the Mantle.
"The Sky Mantle."
Vaerion immediately became interested.
THE HIDDEN MECHANISM
Vaerion arrived at Aurion Citadel later that day.
He entered the Founder Hall and immediately recognized the ancient garment.
He walked toward it without hesitation.
Thomarion watched him.
"You know how to activate it?"
"I know what it is."
Vaerion carefully examined the edges of the Mantle.
"Most people would search for a control panel."
Thomarion nodded.
"I did."
"There isn't one."
Vaerion placed his hand against the inner lining.
"The control mechanism is hidden."
He turned toward Thomarion.
"Only a true Bronze Plate armor wearer can find it."
Thomarion looked surprised.
"How?"
"The Mantle recognizes the resonance of the armor."
Vaerion wore a portion of the Bronze Plate armor beneath his clothing.
When he brought his hand near the Mantle, several tiny symbols appeared.
They had been completely invisible before.
Thomarion stepped closer.
"I couldn't see those."
"You aren't wearing the armor."
Vaerion smiled.
"That is the point."
THE INVISIBLE SWITCH
Vaerion placed two fingers against a seemingly ordinary section of fabric.
He pressed once.
Nothing happened.
Then he moved his hand several centimeters.
Pressed again.
A third time.
Then he traced a small pattern across the inner lining.
CLICK.
The Mantle responded.
A faint golden line traveled through the fabric.
Thomarion stared.
"The switches were invisible."
"They aren't invisible to the armor."
Vaerion explained that the Mantle contained a concealed activation sequence.
The wearer did not need to see the controls.
The Bronze Plate resonance revealed them through touch.
The system recognized the user's resonance signature and temporarily exposed the correct control points.
Vaerion completed the sequence.
KRRRMMMM...
The Mantle lifted slightly from the table.
Its ancient patterns illuminated.
Then—
nothing.
The light faded.
Vaerion frowned.
"It's almost empty."
Thomarion looked at him.
"Empty?"
"Technomagik battery reserves."
SOLARIS TECHNOLOGIK
Vaerion examined the Mantle's inner structure.
The problem became obvious.
The Sky Mantle did not use ordinary Technomagik batteries.
Its internal system was designed around Solaris Technomagik.
It absorbed solar resonance.
The same technological principle used by the ancient Solaris civilization.
Thomarion looked toward the windows.
"So it needs sunlight."
Vaerion nodded.
"Not simply sunlight."
"Solar resonance."
He carried the Mantle outside.
The Citadel's upper courtyard was already receiving strong morning sunlight.
Vaerion spread the Mantle across a large stone railing.
Thomarion looked at him.
"What are you doing?"
"Charging it."
The scene looked almost ridiculous.
One of the most ancient and mysterious pieces of Bronze Plate technology was hanging in the sunlight like ordinary clothing being dried.
Thomarion smiled.
"After everything we've discovered..."
Vaerion laughed.
"Ancient technology can still have simple maintenance."
SOLARIS DETECTED
At first, nothing happened.
The Mantle remained motionless.
Then a tiny symbol appeared.
SOLARIS RESONANCE DETECTED
Another line followed.
SOLAR CHARGE ACCEPTED
Then:
TECHNOMAGIK BATTERIES — CHARGING
Golden energy slowly traveled across the ancient fabric.
Thomarion watched the display.
"The batteries are actually filling."
Vaerion nodded.
"Slowly."
"Why?"
"The Mantle wasn't designed for modern power sources."
"It was designed to absorb solar resonance naturally."
The sunlight intensified.
The ancient patterns began glowing brighter.
CHARGE: 12%
Then:
18%
24%
The process continued.
Like water being absorbed into dry soil.
THE MANTLE AWAKENS
Several hours passed.
The Mantle had become noticeably different.
Its fabric appeared lighter.
The bronze patterns were brighter.
A faint golden field surrounded its edges.
Vaerion returned.
"Enough."
Thomarion looked at him.
"Enough for what?"
"To demonstrate."
Vaerion picked up the Mantle.
The moment it touched his armor, the hidden controls appeared again.
This time, Thomarion could faintly sense them through the resonance, although he still could not directly see the interface.
Vaerion activated the first sequence.
The Mantle spread across his shoulders.
The fabric immediately changed shape.
It became rigid along the outer edges.
The bronze patterns extended.
A faint energy field formed around him.
Thomarion stepped back.
"So that is the Sky Mantle."
THE FLIGHT SYSTEM
Vaerion activated the second sequence.
The Mantle reacted.
WHOOOM.
A pressure field formed beneath him.
His feet lifted from the ground.
Only a few centimeters.
Then higher.
One meter.
Two.
Three.
Vaerion stabilized himself.
Thomarion stared.
"It flies."
Vaerion moved forward.
The Mantle followed his movement.
He rose above the courtyard.
Then turned.
The fabric behaved like wings without actually becoming wings.
Its Technomagik field controlled his movement.
Vaerion accelerated.
WHOOSH!
He crossed the courtyard.
Then stopped instantly.
He descended.
His boots touched the ground.
The Mantle folded naturally around his shoulders.
Thomarion finally spoke.
"That's not a cloak."
Vaerion smiled.
"No."
"It is a flight system disguised as one."
THE LIMITATION
Vaerion immediately removed it.
The golden glow had already weakened.
Thomarion noticed.
"It drained again."
"Quickly."
Vaerion nodded.
"The flight system consumes a lot of energy."
"How long can it operate?"
"Not long with this charge."
He looked at the Mantle.
"That is why Solaris built its technology around continuous solar resonance."
Thomarion understood.
The ancient warriors were not carrying ordinary batteries.
Their equipment could recharge from the environment.
Sunlight.
Solar energy.
Technomagik resonance.
The Mantle was essentially an ancient solar-powered Technomagik flight system.
THOMARION'S IDEA
Thomarion looked at the Mantle thoughtfully.
"Can we reproduce it?"
Vaerion looked at him.
"The flight system?"
"The charging system."
Vaerion paused.
"That might be possible."
Thomarion looked toward the Citadel's engineers.
"We have modern Technomagik batteries."
"We have solar collectors."
"And Lirion understands ancient machine systems better than anyone."
Vaerion nodded.
"We shouldn't copy the Mantle itself."
"No."
Thomarion smiled.
"We copy the principle."
A solar resonance converter.
A system that could gradually recharge Technomagik batteries from sunlight.
A technology inspired by ancient Solaris engineering.
Not a perfect copy.
A modern adaptation.
THE MESSAGE TO LIRION
Thomarion activated another communication channel.
This time, the signal was directed toward the expedition.
The connection flickered.
Lirion's image appeared.
Thomarion held up the Sky Mantle.
"Lirion."
Lirion immediately recognized it.
"The Solaris artifact."
"Correct."
Vaerion stepped into view.
"I discovered how to activate it."
Lirion's expression became interested.
"How?"
Vaerion explained the hidden resonance controls.
Then the solar charging mechanism.
Lirion listened carefully.
"So the batteries recharge through solar resonance."
"Yes."
Lirion thought for a moment.
"That technology could be reproduced."
Thomarion nodded.
"That was my thought."
Lirion smiled.
"Then keep the Mantle intact."
"Don't modify it."
"I want to study its system exactly as it was built."
Thomarion agreed.
THE SECRET OF THE SKY MANTLE
As evening approached, the Mantle was placed beneath a protective cover.
Its remaining energy slowly stabilized.
Vaerion looked at it one final time.
"The ancient Solaris engineers understood something we forgot."
Thomarion asked:
"What?"
"They didn't treat energy as something that had to be stored forever."
"They treated it as something that could be renewed."
Thomarion looked toward the setting sun.
The Sky Mantle reflected the last golden light of the day.
A relic once thought to be nothing more than ceremonial armor had revealed another secret.
It was a machine.
A solar machine.
A flying system.
And perhaps—
a blueprint for a new generation of Technomagik technology.
Far away in the south, the expedition continued its journey through Mirehaven.
They did not yet know what had happened at Aurion.
But when they eventually returned...
the world might already possess a technology inspired by the ancient Solaris civilization.
And the Sky Mantle had only begun to reveal what it could do.
