Chapter 69 - Episode 69 : Solaris Defenders

The Burning Sea was nothing like Borealis.

There was no snow.

No frozen mountains.

No cold wind.

Instead, an endless ocean of golden sand stretched beneath a blazing sky.

Heat shimmered across the horizon.

The ruins of ancient structures emerged from dunes like the bones of a forgotten civilization.

The three brothers walked across the desert.

Dorion led.

Lirion followed with his scanning equipment.

Sorion walked slightly behind them, his bronze compass held in one hand.

The needle had been moving constantly since they entered Solaris territory.

It never pointed directly toward a city.

Never toward a road.

Never toward a visible landmark.

It simply pointed deeper into the desert.

Lirion looked at it.

"Your compass is still leading us?"

Sorion nodded.

"It hasn't stopped."

Dorion wiped dust from his face.

"Then let's hope it knows where we're going."

Sorion looked toward the horizon.

"It does."

A gust of hot wind crossed the dunes.

For a moment, something metallic appeared beneath the sand.

Lirion stopped.

"Wait."

Dorion turned.

"What?"

Lirion pointed.

"Something is buried there."

THE BROKEN DESERT SKIFF

They approached the object.

Only a small section of metal was visible.

Lirion activated his Machine Lord interface.

Blue-black data streams flowed across his arm.

The sand moved.

A larger shape emerged.

It was a vehicle.

Not a conventional ship.

Not a land crawler.

Not an airship.

A floating skiff.

It was small enough for three or four people.

Its hull was shaped like a narrow boat, but beneath it were several circular technomagik stabilizers.

Its front contained a single navigation crystal.

Its sides carried decorative bronze patterns.

The vehicle was badly damaged.

One stabilizer was cracked.

The rear propulsion chamber was partially melted.

And its battery compartment was completely empty.

Dorion inspected it.

"It looks like a boat."

Lirion shook his head.

"It doesn't touch the ground."

He activated the diagnostic system.

The skiff rose several centimeters.

Then dropped.

ERROR.

TECHNOMAGIK BATTERY: EMPTY.

PROPULSION: OFFLINE.

LEVITATION STABILIZATION: 12%.

Lirion smiled.

"This is a desert skiff."

Dorion looked at the sand around them.

"Why would anyone need a boat in a desert?"

Lirion pointed toward the horizon.

"Solaris wasn't always like this."

Sorion looked at the skiff.

His compass immediately reacted.

The needle pointed toward it.

Lirion noticed.

"That's interesting."

Sorion approached the vehicle.

The compass pulsed.

The skiff answered.

A faint resonance traveled through its hull.

Sorion frowned.

"This was heading in the same direction."

Lirion nodded.

"Then we're taking it."

THE MACHINE LORD'S REPAIR

The brothers spent several hours repairing the vehicle.

The skiff's technomagik batteries had been completely drained.

Fortunately, Lirion carried several modern energy cells.

He examined the ancient battery chamber.

"These ancient cells are incompatible with our current power systems."

Dorion looked at him.

"Can you fix it?"

Lirion smiled.

"I can improve it."

He removed the damaged energy regulator.

Then he installed a modern technomagik conversion core.

The old wiring was carefully connected to the new system.

Lirion replaced the cracked stabilizer.

He reinforced the hull.

He repaired the navigation crystal.

Then he added a modern control interface.

The ancient vehicle flickered.

POWER SYSTEM: ONLINE.

LEVITATION: 68%.

PROPULSION: 41%.

Lirion frowned.

"Not enough."

He opened another compartment.

He added a secondary energy cell.

The skiff vibrated.

LEVITATION: 91%.

PROPULSION: 87%.

Lirion smiled.

"Now we're talking."

Dorion climbed aboard.

The vehicle floated.

One meter.

Two meters.

Then three.

Bardin would have called it a boat.

Lirion called it:

"A desert skiff."

Dorion looked at him.

"Can it go fast?"

Lirion activated the throttle.

The skiff shot forward.

Dorion nearly fell out.

"LIRION!"

Lirion laughed.

"It works!"

Sorion stepped aboard.

His compass immediately pointed forward.

"That's our direction."

Lirion adjusted the navigation.

"Then let's see where this thing takes us."

ACROSS THE BURNING SEA

The desert skiff glided over the dunes.

Its levitation field kept it above the sand.

It moved like a boat across an invisible ocean.

Golden dust streamed behind it.

The brothers traveled for hours.

Ancient ruins passed by.

Broken towers.

Buried roads.

Collapsed temples.

Half-submerged machines.

Desert monsters runaway in their presence.

The Burning Sea was not empty.

It was filled with the remains of a civilization that had once possessed incredible technomagik technology.

Lirion scanned everything.

"This region was heavily industrialized."

Dorion looked around.

"Before the Omissions?"

"Probably."

Sorion remained focused on his compass.

The needle suddenly moved.

He grabbed the side of the skiff.

"Stop."

Lirion reduced the speed.

"What is it?"

Sorion pointed ahead.

A distant glow appeared beyond the dunes.

Thousands of lights.

Crowds.

Large towers.

Energy fields.

Music.

Lirion scanned the horizon.

His expression changed.

"That's a city."

Dorion smiled.

"Finally."

They accelerated.

As they crested the next dune, the city became visible.

And so did the enormous arena at its center.

TOURNAMENT OF SURVIVAL

The brothers arrived at the exact moment the city was celebrating.

Thousands of people filled the streets.

Technomagik banners hung between buildings.

Merchants sold food.

Engineers demonstrated machines.

Children played with miniature resonance devices.

Warriors gathered around the massive arena.

A giant projection appeared above the entrance.

SOLARIS DEFENDERS TOURNAMENT

Below it:

ONE TEAM. ONE VICTORY. ONE LEGACY.

Dorion stared.

"We arrived during a tournament?"

Lirion scanned the crowd.

"Yes."

Sorion looked at his compass.

The needle pointed directly toward the arena.

"We are exactly where we need to be."

THE TOURNAMENT

The brothers entered the arena district.

A commentator's voice echoed across the city.

"Warriors of Solaris!"

The crowd roared.

"Travelers from the eastern settlements!"

More cheers.

"Hunters of the Burning Sea!"

The crowd became louder.

The tournament was not simply entertainment.

It was preparation.

The Solaris authorities were gathering warriors.

The desert's hunting season was approaching.

Every year, dangerous technomagik creatures emerged from deeper regions of the Burning Sea.

Sand Crawlers.

Solar Wyrms.

Resonance Beasts.

Ancient machines corrupted by unstable energy.

The creatures moved closer to settlements during the hunting season.

The tournament served two purposes.

Entertainment.

And recruitment.

The strongest warriors would be selected for the hunting parties.

The city needed people capable of protecting trade routes.

Farmers.

Travelers.

Mining settlements.

And coastal villages.

The tournament had become a tradition.

THE PRIZE

A ceremonial platform stood beside the arena.

On it rested an ancient armor component.

It was beautiful.

It carried the appearance of something much older.

Intricate patterns covered its surface.

Ancient symbols were engraved along the edges.

A strange resonance moved through the patterns.

Lirion immediately stopped.

"Wait."

Sorion looked toward the platform.

The compass began vibrating.

Dorion stared.

"Is that...?"

Lirion scanned it.

His eyes widened.

"Bronze Plate Cape."

The three brothers stood silent.

A piece of the ancient Bronze Plate armor.

The tournament's grand prize.

A cape.

Ancient.

Elegant.

Dark fabric reinforced with metallic threads.

Its edges carried golden geometric designs.

A large symbol was embroidered across its back.

The emblem of ancient Solaris A star inside a sun.

The announcer explained:

"The victor's team shall receive the Grand Cape of Solaris!"

The crowd erupted.

THE GRAND CAPE

Lirion studied the cape.

"It has resonance."

Dorion looked at him.

"Powerful?"

"No."

Lirion scanned again.

"Strange."

Sorion approached.

The cape emitted a faint response to the Veil.

Lirion explained:

"There is a flying technomagik resonance embedded in the material like the desert skiff we ride."

Dorion raised an eyebrow.

"Flying?"

"Yes."

"Can it make someone fly?"

Lirion shook his head.

"Not currently."

"Then what does it do?"

Lirion examined the ancient patterns.

"We don't know."

He paused.

"The technology is incomplete."

Perhaps the original system had been lost.

Perhaps the control method had disappeared during the Omnission.

Perhaps only the material remained.

For now, the cape was valuable because of its craftsmanship.

Its ancient design.

Its rarity.

Its historical importance.

And its appearance.

A warrior wearing it would look like someone descended from an ancient age of grandeur.

The cape was not merely clothing.

It was a symbol.

A reminder of what Solaris had once been.

THE UNEXPECTED INVITATION

A tournament official approached the brothers.

He looked at their equipment.

Then at their skiff.

Then at Lirion's technomagik devices.

"You are outsiders."

Dorion nodded.

"Yes."

"Travelers?"

"Yes."

"Warriors?"

Dorion smiled.

"Sometimes."

The official looked toward the arena.

"Then you arrived at an interesting time."

Lirion looked at the tournament.

"We weren't planning to participate."

The official laughed.

"Everyone says that."

He handed Dorion a registration token.

"Three warriors."

Dorion looked at the token.

Lirion smiled.

Sorion looked toward the arena.

His compass continued pointing toward the prize.

Dorion sighed.

"I suppose we're entering."

THREE BROTHERS

The three brothers stood together.

Dorion (Iron Legion Knight).

Lirion (Machine Lord).

Sorion (Mystic Assassin).

They entered the registration hall with their warriors name.

The officials examined their equipment.

One looked at Lirion's modern technomagik devices.

"What city?"

Lirion answered:

"Aurion."

The official frowned.

"Never heard of it."

Lirion smiled.

"That is because it is far away."

Another official examined Sorion's weapons.

"You use Veil techniques?"

Sorion nodded.

The official's expression changed.

"Interesting."

Then Dorion placed his hand on the registration table.

"We're here to compete."

The official smiled.

"Then welcome to Solaris."

THE FIRST ROUND

The arena doors opened.

The crowd roared.

Three warriors entered from the western gate.

Solaris hunters.

Heavy armor.

Technomagik weapons.

One carried a plasma axe.

Another carried a resonance shield.

The third wore a mechanical exoskeleton.

The announcer shouted:

"WELCOME OUR CHALLENGERS!"

The crowd responded.

Then the announcer announced the newcomers.

"TRAVELERS FROM BEYOND THE FRONTIER!"

The crowd became curious.

Dorion stepped forward.

Lirion activated his systems.

Sorion disappeared into the shadows.

The bell rang.

KLANG!

The battle began.

The first Solaris warrior charged.

Dorion met him head-on.

BOOM!

Their weapons collided.

Lirion deployed a technomagik construct.

The machine unfolded beside him.

Sorion vanished.

The audience gasped.

The Solaris fighters had never seen their techniques.

The battle was over quickly.

But it was only the first round.

THE REAL PURPOSE

After the fight, the tournament officials gathered.

They were impressed.

Not simply by their strength.

By their cooperation.

Dorion's direct power.

Lirion's technology.

Sorion's precision.

The three brothers fought as if they had trained together for years.

Because they had.

The tournament commander approached them.

"You three are exactly what Solaris needs."

Dorion looked at him.

"For the tournament?"

The commander shook his head.

"For the hunting season."

He looked toward the desert.

"The creatures are already moving."

Lirion scanned the horizon.

His sensors detected multiple technomagik signatures.

"Those aren't normal machines."

The commander nodded.

"No."

"They are what remains of the ancients."

Sorion looked toward the Burning Sea.

"And they're waking up."

THE HUNTING SEASON

The tournament was more than a competition.

It was the final gathering before the annual desert hunt.

The city needed warriors.

Not just champions.

Hunters.

Protectors.

Scouts.

Engineers.

Technomancers.

Everyone who could survive the desert was needed.

The creatures would soon emerge from deeper territories.

Some were natural.

Some were ancient machines.

Some were combinations of both.

The commander showed them the hunting map.

Red markers covered the desert.

Lirion stared.

"There are hundreds."

"Thousands."

Dorion looked at the map.

"Why do they come here?"

The commander answered:

"Because the old machines are hungry for energy."

He pointed toward the city. "A city core was awaken."

"A resonance has made the monster more active."

Sorion understood.

Their arrival had changed the region.

The awakening of the ancient network was attracting forgotten machines.

The hunting season was no longer going to be normal.

THE BRONZE CAPE

That night, the three brothers stood before the tournament prize.

The Bronze Plate component rested beneath protective glass.

Lirion scanned it.

"This is definitely ancient."

Dorion looked at the cape.

"Could it belong to the original Bronze Plate set?"

"Possibly."

Sorion touched the glass.

The Veil responded.

For an instant, he saw an image.

A warrior wearing the complete Bronze Plate.

A massive cape flowing behind him.

Solaris burning in the background.

The warrior stood beside the Veilkeepers.

Then the image changed.

The same warrior stood against them.

Then—

Omnission.

The memory disappeared.

Sorion pulled his hand away.

Dorion looked at him.

"What did you see?"

Sorion stared at the armor.

"A fate that was changed."

Lirion frowned.

"By Omnission?"

Sorion nodded.

"We need to know what happened here."

The arena erupted in cheers outside.

The next tournament match had begun.

Dorion looked toward the sound.

"Then I suppose we have to win."

Lirion smiled.

"Apparently."

Sorion looked at the Bronze Plate.

"Yes."

THE FLYING CAPE

Before leaving, Lirion returned to the Grand Cape.

He examined the resonance pattern again.

The ancient flying technology remained inactive.

But he could see its structure.

The cape had been designed to interact with atmospheric resonance.

Not enough to provide true flight.

Not anymore.

Its original control system was missing.

The Omnission had erased the knowledge needed to activate it.

Lirion carefully copied the design.

He did not attempt to alter the cape.

Not yet.

"This technology may be important."

Dorion nodded.

"Can you make it fly?"

Lirion smiled.

"Eventually."

Sorion looked at the cape.

"For now, let it remain what it is."

"What?"

"A memory."

The three brothers looked toward the arena.

The crowd continued cheering.

The tournament continued.

The desert waited.

The hunting season was coming.

And somewhere beneath the Burning Sea, ancient machines were beginning to awaken.

THE BELL OF SOLARIS

The tournament bell rang again.

The next match was announced.

The crowd shouted.

The three brothers entered the arena.

Dorion raised his weapon.

Lirion activated his technomagik systems.

Sorion disappeared into the shadows.

Above them, the ancient Grand Cape waited.

Its forgotten flying resonance remained silent.

For now.

Outside the city, the desert wind began to rise.

Far beyond the arena walls, something enormous moved beneath the sand.

The hunting season was approaching.

The tournament had gathered the strongest warriors.

But nobody in Solaris understood what was truly coming.

The awakening of Grand Meridian had changed the ancient network.

The resonance was spreading.

Machines were waking.

Old enemies were returning.

Lost civilizations were reconnecting.

And now—

the three brothers had arrived at the exact moment Solaris needed warriors.

The next battle would determine whether they earned the Bronze Plate Cape.

But the battles beyond the arena would determine something far greater.

The fate of Solaris.

And perhaps—

the truth that Omnission had tried to erase forever.
