Chapter 11 - BTS: Writing the First Three Chapters of The Last Horizon

Chapter 1 – A Dream That Felt Too Real

The inspiration for the first chapter came from a strange dream I once had.

In the dream, two random strangers—people who looked like road sweepers or workers—suddenly started claiming that they were my parents. At first it was confusing, but very quickly it turned disturbing. They began chasing me, insisting that I belonged with them, while I kept trying to run away.

When I woke up, the feeling of that dream stayed with me. There was something unsettling about it—about identity, about strangers suddenly becoming part of your life, about reality feeling slightly wrong. That strange feeling became the foundation for Chapter 1, where the story begins in what seems like a normal world… before things slowly start to shift.

Chapter 2 – My Love for Space Storie

s

I've always loved space stories.

For a long time I wanted to write something involving space, discovery, and the unknown. Originally, the idea for Chapter 2 was very different. I was planning a story about a scientist named Vikram Nair, who was an astronaut preparing to leave Earth for a long mission.

But there was a personal conflict in the story. His wife had cancer, and he wasn't sure whether things would ever be the same when he returned. That emotional uncertainty fascinated me—the idea that space exploration isn't just about science, but also about the lives people leave behind on Earth.

Eventually that idea evolved into what became Object HX-586, where Vikram becomes the scientist who discovers something in space that may change the future of humanity.

Chapter 3 – The Beginning of Humanity's Story

While the earlier chapters focus on mystery and discovery, Chapter 3 begins exploring the human side of the story.

The inspiration came from someone I know whose father is in the army. Seeing the discipline, strength, and responsibility that comes with that life made me want to create a character who could lead others when everything begins to fall apart.

That's how Logan Carter was created.

He represents the kind of person who doesn't necessarily seek leadership but becomes the one people rely on when things get difficult.

Parts of Chapter 3.2 and 3.3 were also heavily inspired by a powerful scene from the film War of the Worlds, where Tom Cruise is trying to escape with his family and reach the boat while chaos unfolds around them. That sense of urgency, fear, and desperation influenced how I imagined the early moments of survival in The Last Horizon.

Building the World

The first three chapters were written to slowly expand the story's scope:

Chapter 1 introduces mystery.

Chapter 2 introduces the cosmic threat.

Chapter 3 introduces the human story.

Together, they set the stage for the journey that follows.

And this is only the beginning.
