Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10: The Wedding of Ice and Moon

Mooncrest Palace had never looked more beautiful. Gold-lined drapes fell from towering pillars, flowers of silver and white woven into every corner of the grand hall. Candles flickered softly, casting a warm glow over the gathered nobles. Yet beneath the beauty, there was no joy only tension, only silence.

Lilac stood before the mirror, unmoving. Layers of silk draped over her frame, soft as air yet heavy as chains. Silver threads shimmered across the fabric, catching the light with every breath she took. A delicate crown rested upon her head, her silver hair flowing like moonlight, her features soft and almost unreal. She looked breathtaking. And she felt nothing.

"Lilac…" Liana's voice came gently from behind her.

Lilac blinked slowly. "Is it time?"

Liana hesitated, then nodded.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Lilac turned and walked.

The grand doors opened, and silence fell instantly. Every eye turned.

Rael stilled.

She stepped forward slowly, her presence quiet yet impossible to ignore. The soft glow of the candles seemed to follow her, wrapping around her like light itself. Her silver hair shimmered with each step, her beauty almost ethereal. Fragile, yet captivating.

Rael's golden eyes rested on her, unblinking. Beautiful. The word crossed his mind without permission. Still, his expression remained cold, controlled, untouched.

Whispers spread through the hall.

"That's the second princess…"

"She's the one marrying the werewolf prince?"

"A union with enemies… this is madness."

"Can she even survive in the North?"

Lilac heard them. Every word. But she did not stop walking.

Her gaze shifted briefly. Aria stood among the nobles, her expression unreadable, her eyes sharp. Riven stood farther back, silent, his silver eyes fixed on her, burning with something deeper. Lilac quickly looked away.

At the altar, Rael waited, still and composed. As she reached him, the space between them felt heavier than before closer, more real.

The ceremony began. Words were spoken, ancient and binding, but Lilac barely heard them. Her hands felt cold, her chest tight.

"Do you accept this union?"

The question echoed.

Lilac hesitated just for a second.

Rael noticed.

His gaze shifted slightly toward her.

Lilac swallowed. "I do."

Her voice was soft, but it carried.

Rael's turn came. He did not hesitate. "I do."

Simple. Certain. Final.

A thin ribbon was wrapped around their joined hands, binding them together. A symbol. A promise. A chain. Lilac felt it tighten slightly, like something closing around her life.

"From this moment forth, the bond is sealed. Two kingdoms united by blood, and by fate."

Soft applause followed polite, controlled, empty.

Lilac's fate was sealed.

Rael's hand remained around hers for a moment longer, firm and unyielding. He leaned slightly closer, his voice low enough for only her to hear.

"Stay close."

Not gentle. Not kind. A quiet command.

Before anything else could follow, the southern king stood abruptly. His expression was dark, unreadable. Without a word, he turned and left. The doors closed behind him with a heavy echo.

The hall shifted uneasily, but the ceremony was over.

Rael released her hand slowly. His golden eyes rested on her once more, this time longer, as if trying to understand something unexpected. But whatever it was, he said nothing.

Lilac stood beside him, silent and still. No longer just a princess of Mooncrest, but something else entirely. Something bound. Something claimed.

And as the whispers began again, softer this time, one truth remained.

She no longer belonged here.
