Chapter 7 - watching betwen the fog

The black man looked at the monster with disdain, saying: "Is this really the big challenge? Look at it, it's just a deformed creature that can barely stand. It's not even a challenge."

Before he could finish his joy, the stranger opened his massive mouth, and a huge amount of fog leaked out of it.

No more than a few seconds passed before the entire room was filled with fog, and visibility became blurred for everyone.

The boy with the winter hat began to walk slowly, surrounded by the gray fog, shouting as he searched for the others. He remained in the same state for several moments, with tension filling his heart.

Then suddenly he felt something touching his head....

His features froze in terror while the hand continued to crawl slowly across his face. Out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed long fingers with pale skin full of veins gently touching his face....

And in a single moment, the stranger cut off his head without mercy.

Nearby, Jesse heard a strange sound from behind him.

He, the boy, and the black man were close to each other, so it was not difficult for them to regroup again. Jesse pointed his weapon toward the source of the sound.

Suddenly he felt something strange under his feet. He could not see clearly because of the fog, so he lowered his arm toward the ground in front of his feet.

As soon as he touched the ground, a strange substance stuck to it, the nature of which he did not know at first.

He pulled his hand back and brought it closer to his eyes so he could see it clearly.

He was surprised to find that the substance was blood.

Immediately, he alerted the others to it.

The black man approached Jesse, only to glimpse a strange blackness from behind him.

He quickly moved his gun toward it and fired, after which a deafening scream was heard echoing around.

Jesse quickly turned around to find that the stranger had already fled through the thick fog, leaving behind a huge pool of green-colored blood.

His breathing intensified and a drop of sweat leaked from his forehead as he said in shock: "Huh?... Was that just now?"

The black man replied to him: "No thanks needed for doing my duty."

Jesse put his hand on his chest, taking a deep breath as an attempt to calm himself, but he noticed the monster's blood on the floor.

He knelt down and focused on the green spots, saying in a slightly raised voice: "His wound will most likely draw a line for us to his location. Now we can track him through it. It will be a bit difficult because of the fog, but that won't be a big problem. Come on, all of you follow me. We need to kill him as quickly as possible."

Jesse began tracking the blood with the boy and the black man behind him. He continued following the monster's blood, which extended like a thread, for a minute.

Until he noticed the blackness of something through the fog.

He quietly raised his weapon, trying not to attract its attention. His fingers pressed carefully on the trigger, but the shot exploded toward it. After that, a loud scream was heard echoing around.

Jesse was happy that he had hit the monster, but the joy on his face vanished when he noticed that the shadow began approaching him with great speed.

He began firing several shots at it without stopping, but it kept approaching him without slowing down even a little. His heartbeats continued to intensify with every moment the monster got closer to him, and expressions of fear crept onto his face.

Suddenly the monster appeared in front of him at the height of its anger. It raised its arm, ready to kill him directly.

But in a few seconds and before it could do anything, the sound of gunfire was heard, causing it to fall to the ground and begin screaming hysterically from the intensity of the pain.

Jesse looked at the fallen monster with expressions of shock and horror on his face, only to find the black man emerging from the fog from behind it, saying to him: "Don't worry, we've finished it."

The black man looked at him with anger and annoyance, pointed his gun at its head, and pressed the trigger, but he discovered that the gun was empty.

He looked at the gun and threw it, shouting nervously: "Stop screaming like a b*tch!"

He clenched his fist and directed a punch at the monster, which made its scream rise higher and higher.

The black man bent down and continued to deliver a series of punches to the monster, blow after blow, with blood splattering after each strike.

The monster's green blood mixed with the crimson human blood, forming a color that tended toward black.

In the background, Jesse was watching all of this in silence, with expressions of amazement and astonishment.

The black man stopped hitting it and fell to the ground from exhaustion.

Jesse looked at the monster to find that its head had been completely crushed, its teeth scattered around, and the punches clear on its face stained with the mixture of their blood.

The curtain of fog began to lift from the room, and with every moment that passed, the features of the room became clearer.

Jesse found the body of the man with the winter hat lying on the ground, his head severed from his body, bones exposed with many parts missing from his body.

Jesse looked at the body with eyes carrying a mixture of sadness and pity.

He removed his scarf and covered the body with it out of respect for him.

The boy followed him and began looking at the body in astonishment for a period of time, then shifted his gaze toward the girl who was in front of one of the doors.

Sitting on the ground with her legs drawn between her hands. There was a mixture of terror and dread in her eyes, and she had not uttered a single word since the fog disappeared.

In another place...

The owner of the voice was sitting in a wide wooden room of gray color with a metal door, surrounded by several old-fashioned screens mixed with flesh and wires, displaying the room where the challenge was held.

The owner of the voice continued to watch in silence and concentration, until he heard the sound of a door opening.

A woman with pink hair and eyes of the same color entered. She was wearing loose gray clothing and a purple scarf. Immediately after entering, she said to him: "Did you find any survivors?"

The owner of the voice replied to her in a calm tone: "Yes, I found five, but now they have become four. This is good. I didn't expect this many of them to remain."

Her grip tightened, and annoyance appeared in her eyes as she replied to him nervously: "Seriously! Why do you do this every time you get the leadership? Why do you conduct these stupid tests? We need every living human in this area. Human lives are not a game."

The owner of the voice looked at her from behind the darkness. He took some time to stand up and began speaking calmly: "We have discussed this matter countless times. I don't think I need to explain myself for the 50th time."

The girl looked at him with a mixture of hatred and anger, turned toward the exit, saying in a tone of contempt: "One day you will regret this."

The latter replied to her coldly: "I'll wait for that."

(Return to the current events)

Jesse and the boy were lying on the ground, while the black man was examining the doors, searching for any exit.

Jesse said to him: "Stop it, man. All those doors only lead to the rooms we were in before. Don't tire yourself out."

The black man sat in front of one of the doors, with annoyance dominating him.

The place remained quiet for a while, until the room began to shake and a strange sound was heard from above. Everyone quickly stood up and began looking toward the ceiling. But... (cracking sound)

Suddenly the ceiling collapsed above them, and from it emerged the girl who had been talking to the owner of the voice.

She landed on the ground with complete smoothness, leaving behind some remnants of the destroyed ceiling. Her hand was in the shape of a huge spiral drill full of veins around it.

The shape of the drill began to shrink and change, returning to the shape of a normal hand.

"Markus you son of a b***h! he don't tell me about this shit"

Everyone looked at her with a mixture of worry and confusion and pointed their guns at her.

The girl began to calm them down and told them that she was not the enemy, but had come to help them.

She began speaking: "My name is Mira Dawson. I know your first impression of me is bad, but I'm not the cause of all this. It's someone else."

Jesse interrupted her with features mixed with annoyance and worry, saying: "Listen, I'm not interested in all that. All I want is to get out of this place."

Confidence appeared on Mira's features, and she said in an optimistic voice: "Why would you want to leave? Why don't you join our group? There are many humans like you here, where instead of going alone to search for resources like food and drink, we can provide them for you in this place in exchange for some work, and this will help increase the survival rate for everyone."

Jesse's features changed to seriousness and he remained silent for some time, remembering memories from his past.

His response echoed in the room: "I refuse."

Mira replied to him with confusion and shock on her features: "Why not. You can..."

Jesse interrupted her, saying calmly: "Why do you only mention the positive side of joining a huge group of people? I have previous experience in places like these, and it always and I mean always fails by all standards, and its harms are greater than its benefits, such as the spread of deadly diseases or worse things. Like famines, and other problems I won't go into... Sorry, but I refuse to join."
