Chapter 34 - CHAPTER-33 THEY ANSWERED

Icarus walked home.

Soft rain fell around him.

On his shoulders.His hair.His hands—

like it was trying to wash something away.

The streets were empty.

No one saw him.

No one saw the blood staining his clothes.

No one saw him return to a place that might no longer be his home.

A voice echoed in his mind.

How miserable.

Caelum.

Icarus smiled faintly.

"Hi," he said lightly. "How are you doing?"

A pause.

How insolent.

Silence followed.

Then—

Don't go home.

Icarus frowned.

"What?"

Another pause.

If you don't want to be ruined.

And then—

nothing.

Caelum was gone.

Icarus continued walking.

Water splashed beneath his feet as he stepped through shallow puddles.

Eventually—

the sea came into view.

Grey.

Restless.

The sky pressed down on it, heavy and unforgiving, while waves crashed endlessly against the shore.

Icarus stopped.

And remembered, a poem he had once written.

The sea troubles the sky, I say—for it laps at its edges constantly. It reaches, again and again, grasping at the horizon, hoping that one daythe sky will listen—and answer back.

He exhaled slowly.

"…It's complete now."

The sky had answered.

He walked across the wet sand and reached the house.

Knock.

Knock.

Soft.

Gentle.

The door creaked open on its own.

"…Agatha?"

No answer.

He stepped inside.

Water dripped from his clothes onto the wooden floor.

The windows were shut.

The lantern was lit.

She had been here.

Recently.

Icarus closed the door behind him.

Click.

He moved to change.

But something caught his eye.

A letter.

Thick paper.

Unfamiliar.

He picked it up, damp fingers smudging the ink.

One line.

Neat.

Careful.

Look outside your window.

Icarus stilled.

There was only one window.

He turned slowly.

Each step heavier than the last.

The letter crumpled in his hand.

And then—

he saw.

Agatha.

Her body lay on the shore.

Still.

Unmoving.

The letter fell.

Icarus ran.

The door slammed open behind him as he stumbled into the rain.

His feet slipped against the wet sand.

He almost fell—

again—

again—

"No… no—"

He reached her.

Dropped to his knees.

Pulled her into his arms.

"Does it hurt?" he asked softly.

No answer.

There would never be one.

Tears slid down his face.

Quiet at first.

Then—

not.

The rain fell harder.

The waves crashed louder.

But neither could drown the sound that tore from him.

He held her closer.

Pressed his forehead to hers.

As if she might still be warm.

As if she might still wake.

The sea reached for her.

Tried to pull her away.

But Icarus refused.

Crimson spread through the pale sand.

Flowed into the water.

No…

No… not again…

His body shook.

His voice broke.

And then—

he screamed.

"WHOEVER DID THIS—"

"I'LL KILL YOU."

The waves swallowed the sound.

But not the promise.

I will end you.

I will end all of you.

Agatha's blood seeped into the sea.

An offering.

Unintended.

Unforgivable.

Something shifted.

["The God of the Ocean" hears your call.]

["The Goddess of the Rain" listens.]

["The God of the Future" watches.]

["The God of Time" stirs.]

The world held its breath.

[They accept your sacrifice.]

Icarus tightened his grip on her lifeless body.

His tears did not stop.

[You are born anew.]

Icarus' vision turned black.
