The sea troubles the sky, I say—
for it laps at its edges constantly.
It reaches, again and again,
grasping at the horizon,
hoping that one day
the sky will listen—
and answer back.
Icarus sat on the roof of Agatha's house, staring out at the sea.
Night had settled.
The moon hung high above, its pale light stretching across the waves as if calling them closer. The stars flickered softly—like a quiet greeting to the world below.
It was a beautiful night.
Icarus hated it.
He wanted his suffering to end.
But Agatha kept stopping him.
If only I were a bird…I could disappear, and no one would notice.
He sighed and lay back, staring up at the sky.
"Woe… oh, woe."
A loud thud broke the silence.
Agatha had climbed onto the roof.
"What are you angsting over now, runt?"
Icarus shot upright, startled.
"It's none of your business."
He turned away sharply.
"No one understands me."
Agatha sighed and walked over.
"Have you been reading those angsty poetry books again?"
Icarus immediately hid the book behind his back.
"No."
Agatha raised an eyebrow.
"I can literally see it."
Icarus grumbled and pulled it out.
Despairing Poetry for the Tortured Soul.
Agatha snorted and sat down beside him, taking the book from his hands.
"Let's see what we've got here…"
She flipped to a random page and read aloud:
"You let me despair with your cruel words,But then I chose myself—I am born anew."
Icarus groaned, covering his face.
"It's not even that bad."
Agatha laughed and lightly punched his shoulder.
"Whatever you say."
It had been four years since Agatha pulled him from the sea.
He was fourteen now.
Still broken—
but trying.
Piece by piece.
It was tempting to give up.
But he didn't.
Agatha cleared her throat.
"Let me show you what real poetry sounds like."
Icarus immediately sat up.
Agatha was… good.
She looked out at the sea and spoke softly:
"Let the sun sink beneath the waves, cradled by the tide's embrace. And we will sing—the quiet songthe sea has always known."
Icarus exhaled softly.
Then leaned over,
resting his head on her shoulder.
Can this moment last forever?
