Divura had turned eighteen, and with age came a sharpness that few could rival. Her training in both medicine and business had given her a rare perspective one that allowed her to combine the two disciplines seamlessly. On this morning, she was determined to take the first step toward her dream, building a hospital that would serve her people.
She and her servant rode through the bustling streets of Veridia, the capital of their kingdom. Merchants paused mid-transaction to glance at her, murmuring among themselves. Her reputation for intelligence had preceded her; even the most skeptical observers could not hide their admiration.
Finally, they arrived at the plot of land she had been eyeing. It was perfectly located near the center of the city, large enough for the hospital she envisioned. Divura stepped forward, examining the boundaries carefully. "How much are you asking?" she asked, her voice calm but carrying authority.
The landowner, a portly man with a wary smile, cleared his throat. "For this plot, I was thinking fifty thousand coins, my lady."
Divura tilted her head, considering. "It is a good location, yes. But given the current state of the market and the work required to develop it, I will offer forty thousand."
The man hesitated. "Forty thousand… that is lower than I expected."
"Think of it as an investment," Divura said smoothly. "Once my hospital is built, the area will flourish. You'll see property values rise beyond what you can imagine."
The landowner's eyes narrowed, then widened in surprise. "You… you are not just asking for land. You are making a business plan while negotiating?"
Divura smiled faintly. "Always."
After much discussion and careful negotiation, she acquired the land. As they returned home, her mind already ran through the layout of the hospital, imagining wards, treatment areas, and spaces where patients could feel cared for and respected.
When they arrived, Divura found her mother treating a patient in one of the home's small clinics, but Divura stepped in effortlessly, assisting her with precision. Together, they treated the patient, Divura offering suggestions for herbal combinations and minor procedures, earning a nod of approval from her mother.
By evening, her father returned to the house. He was the head of one of Veridia's most successful trading enterprises, and recent conflicts with Auentia had taken a toll on both his business and the kingdom's economy. After settling in, he began speaking with Divura.
"Divura," he said, settling across from her at the dinner table, "the war with Auentia is affecting everything. Shipments are delayed, our salt trade is blocked in certain regions, and some partners have pulled out entirely. It is… frustrating."
Divura set down her utensils and leaned forward. "Father, if we adjust the routes and negotiate directly with local merchants, we can bypass some of these restrictions. I have been reviewing the numbers, and I believe we can minimize losses while opening new opportunities."
Her father raised an eyebrow. "You've been paying attention to trade while focusing on medicine?"
"Trade is medicine for the kingdom's lifeblood," she said, smiling. "Both require balance and careful planning."
After a quiet dinner, Divura retired to her room. There, she brought out a sketchbook and began outlining the hospital. At first, her ideas were simple, one-story sketches of wards and treatment areas. But then, as if guided by some unseen force, her hand moved on its own. Lines became structures, rooms multiplied, and her simple plan transformed into a three-story marvel. She paused, staring at the pages.
"This… this is beyond anything I imagined," she whispered. The building included a reception area to welcome patients, an emergency treatment section for new arrivals, wards for injuries both internal and external, a dedicated herb storage, and private rooms for wealthy patients who could afford premium care. The hospital would not only heal but also generate income to sustain itself.
The next morning, Divura presented her sketches to the builder. He examined them carefully, his brows furrowed in disbelief. "This… this is extraordinary. I have never seen such precision and foresight. Every detail is considered, and the flow of patients is perfect. Are you certain this is your work?"
Divura nodded. "I designed it. Let's begin immediately."
The builder turned to his team. "Gather materials. Start digging. We build exactly as she has drawn."
Satisfied, Divura left the construction site and proceeded to her father's trading office. There, she found him negotiating with a group of merchants, his voice firm and authoritative. She stepped in to assist, reviewing accounts and helping balance ledgers.
"Father," she said after a moment, "what if we expand our salt trade into Auentia? They currently have no major supplier, and scarcity there is driving prices high. It could be a significant revenue boost for us."
Her father paused, considering. "Auentia? That is risky. But your proposal… I see potential. The scarcity could work in our favor. You are confident in this?"
"I've calculated the margins, shipping costs, and risks," she said. "With the right partnerships, we can dominate their market before any competitor even thinks to enter."
As they continued the discussion, a servant rushed into the room, bowing deeply. "Sir! Urgent news!"
Her father's face hardened. "What is it?"
The servant swallowed nervously. "The northern route… our trade convoy… it's been attacked. They… they have taken several shipments."
Divura's eyes sharpened. "How many? Any survivors?"
The servant shook his head. "Some escaped, but the cargo is lost, my lady. The attackers came from Auentia's direction."
Her father slammed his hand on the desk. "Damn them! We cannot let this continue. Divura, prepare the contingency plans we discussed last month. We need routes secured, contracts renegotiated, and defenses strengthened."
Divura nodded, already calculating possibilities. "I will draft alternative paths and secure new suppliers. If we act quickly, we can recover most of the losses."
Her father looked at her, a mixture of pride and concern in his eyes. "You are becoming a force beyond your years, Divura. Medicine, business… strategy. Soon, you may be the one who holds this kingdom together."
She smiled faintly. "Then we'll make sure Veridia does more than survive. We'll make it flourish."
Outside, the sun dipped low, casting long shadows over the city. Divura returned to her sketches, her mind alive with designs, plans, and strategies. She knew the road ahead would not be easy, but for the first time, she felt the full weight of her potential and the thrill of shaping her destiny, brick by brick, idea by idea.
Little did she know, forces within Auentia were already taking notice of her talents, and soon, the ripples of her decisions would reach far beyond the borders of Veridia.
