Chapter 103 - Home

The battle was over.

For the first time in hours...

There were no explosions.

No screams.

No clashing weapons.

Only silence.

A silence that felt heavier than the war itself.

Smoke drifted across the academy.

The once-proud buildings were now broken ruins.

The courtyard was covered with shattered stone, torn uniforms, and abandoned weapons.

Daniel stood in the middle of it all.

His sword hung loosely at his side.

He couldn't stop staring at the place where Mr. Stone had disappeared.

Mary quietly walked beside him.

She didn't speak.

She simply stood there.

Sometimes...

Silence comforted more than words.

"Start searching for survivors!"

Bill's voice echoed across the academy.

"Medical teams, with Lucy!"

"Engineering teams, help Noah stabilize the damaged buildings!"

"Everyone else—check every classroom and every corridor!"

The Ghost Killers immediately began moving.

Victory could wait.

Saving lives could not.

Lucy ran toward a collapsed dormitory.

"There's someone here!"

Felix and Noah hurried over.

Together, they lifted massive chunks of stone.

Beneath them...

A frightened first-year student was curled into a ball.

Lucy knelt immediately.

"It's okay."

"You're safe now."

The boy looked around with trembling eyes.

"Is... is the battle over?"

Lucy smiled through her tears.

"Yes."

"We made it."

The boy burst into tears and hugged her.

Lucy hugged him back.

For a moment...

She forgot her own exhaustion.

Elsewhere...

David stood alone.

The battlefield was strangely quiet.

Too quiet.

He closed his eyes.

The whispers that had filled his mind throughout the war...

Had almost disappeared.

Only one remained.

A calm, ancient voice.

"His light has not vanished."

David frowned.

"What do you mean?"

No answer came.

The voice faded.

Leaving him alone once again.

Bill walked through the ruined academy.

Every few steps...

He stopped.

He recognized a classroom.

A training hall.

A garden.

Places where he and Mr. Stone had spent years teaching.

Now...

Most of them were gone.

He picked up a broken wooden practice sword from the ground.

He smiled sadly.

"You always said we'd rebuild if anything happened."

He looked at the ruins.

"I guess you're making me keep that promise too."

Near sunset...

The rescue teams gathered.

The injured had been treated.

The missing had been found.

Those who had fallen in battle were laid side by side, each covered with a white cloth.

Teachers removed their hats.

Students lowered their heads.

No one spoke.

Bill slowly walked to the front.

His voice was quiet.

"We won."

No cheers answered him.

He looked around.

"Victory..."

"...always has a price."

The survivors silently bowed their heads.

Daniel finally stepped forward.

In his hand was Mr. Stone's silver pendant.

He stared at it for a long time.

Then carefully placed it on top of a folded white cloth that had been prepared in Mr. Stone's honor.

His hand trembled.

"I'm sorry..."

he whispered.

"I wasn't strong enough."

Mary gently shook her head.

"He wouldn't want you to blame yourself."

Daniel looked away.

"Maybe."

"But I still do."

As night fell...

The academy lit hundreds of white lanterns.

One by one...

Students placed them across the ruined courtyard.

The soft lights illuminated the broken walls.

Not as a celebration.

But as a promise.

That the academy would stand again.

Bill stood before everyone.

"The funeral..."

He paused.

"...will be held three days from now."

No one objected.

Everyone understood.

They needed time.

Time to bury the fallen.

Time to rebuild.

Time to grieve.

Daniel looked up at the night sky.

The stars slowly appeared above the academy.

He remembered Mr. Stone's last smile.

His last lesson.

His last words.

A gentle breeze passed through the courtyard.

Daniel closed his eyes.

"I'll keep my promise."

"I'll protect everyone."

"And I'll find the truth..."

"...about Ava."

Far away...

Hidden atop a distant cliff overlooking the academy...

A lone figure watched the lanterns below.

The figure quietly placed a hand over their heart.

Then disappeared into the darkness...

Without a single sound.
