Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Amu's Sightings in Mondstadt

Amu and Siegfrieda in the carriage did not notice this small interlude; one slept while the other carefully checked the inventory list, both immersed in their own worlds.

With a neigh from the wooden horse, the carriage gradually slowed down.

Amu, who was asleep, was awakened and stretched, letting out a yawn. Siegfrieda nimbly jumped down from the carriage and found they had arrived at the bridge over Wine Lake.

Siegfrieda patted Amu's shoulder and said cheerfully, "We arrived so quickly! Thank you for your hard work, Amu."

"I really didn't expect your driving skills to be so amazing, Amu! I didn't feel any bumps at all while riding in the carriage!"

Although he didn't know what had happened, Amu smiled happily after being praised.

Just as Amu and Siegfrieda were about to guide the carriage into Mondstadt, they were stopped by the Knights of Favonius standing at the gate.

Swan held out his hand to stop the two, performed the Knights of Favonius' etiquette seriously, and then said, "Please wait a moment, both of you. Routine inspection!"

Siegfrieda paused in surprise and asked dazedly, "Huh! Wasn't I allowed in without an inspection before?"

Swan replied solemnly, "According to the regulations in the Knights of Favonius Guidebook, knights on duty at the city gate are responsible for carefully inspecting all large shipments entering or leaving Mondstadt to prevent anyone from sneaking into Mondstadt using them."

Another guard watching the gate, Lawrence, smoothed things over: "Please cooperate with our Knights of Favonius' work. Don't worry, we will be very gentle and won't damage your cargo."

"If the cargo is indeed damaged, the Knights of Favonius will compensate you at the listed price."

Hearing what the two said, Siegfrieda could only yield the carriage behind her and let them inspect everything.

Siegfrieda said, "Fine, but please be careful."

After a thorough and cautious inspection, Swan and Lawrence nodded and returned all the cargo to its original position.

Swan said seriously, "Thank you both for cooperating with the work of the Knights of Favonius. May the Anemo Archon bless you."

Lawrence said, "We apologize for delaying your time, but we are also responsible for the safety of the citizens of Mondstadt, so please forgive us."

"Also, elemental constructs might cause a panic in Mondstadt, so please ensure you keep a close eye on your friend, madam."

Siegfrieda immediately nodded, indicating that she would keep a close watch on Amu and the wooden horse and absolutely would not let them frighten anyone else.

After speaking, the two stepped aside, clearing the path into Mondstadt.

After Siegfrieda and the others entered Mondstadt, Swan asked Lawrence:

"Doesn't the Knights of Favonius Guidebook stipulate that elemental constructs that are dangerous or prone to losing control must be treated with caution, and only allowed passage after confirming they pose no danger to the citizens?"

Lawrence explained, "Yesterday, when we stopped that wooden gentleman, he didn't make any excessive moves. Today, when we inspected their cargo, the wooden man didn't react either, proving he isn't a hot-tempered or impulsive elemental construct."

"Besides, didn't you notice the badge on him? That is the insignia of the Patrol Team. Being able to join the Patrol Team proves he isn't dangerous."

"So, Swan, don't be so rigid. You need to be flexible when encountering situations."

As he spoke, a worried expression appeared on Lawrence's face. Because of the name his father gave him, everyone treated him like a member of the Lawrence Clan. If he didn't speak pleasantly, he feared he might get ambushed and beaten up one night.

"I'm telling you, Swan, I was almost beaten up last night. Luckily, that detestable fellow was scared away by the sudden appearance of the Darknight Hero."

Swan pondered for a moment and then asked, "Are you talking about that very famous Darknight Hero? Did you see what he looked like?"

Lawrence exclaimed, "Hey! Swan, is that the point? The point is I was almost beaten up!"

Swan pressed, "So, did you see the Darknight Hero's appearance?"

Lawrence retorted, "Hey!"

After entering Mondstadt, Amu and Siegfrieda began delivering the goods to the recipients according to the inventory list.

Siegfrieda used to earn Mora by transporting goods between Mondstadt and Springvale, so she was very familiar with the streets and alleys of Mondstadt, making the deliveries smooth and practiced.

Moreover, compared to before, she now had Amu, a hard-working helper. She only needed to handle communication with people. Although the workload increased, the nature of the work was much easier than before.

As the goods were delivered one by one, Siegfrieda noticed the package belonging to the Patrol Team Captain Gray in a corner.

Siegfrieda carefully checked the inventory list: "Gray old man's goods, the recipient is... a knight at the city gate. I should wait until we finish delivering all these goods and are leaving Mondstadt before handing this over to them."

"If we hurry up, we can still finish before they get off work."

Most of these goods were sent by residents of Springvale to relatives living in Mondstadt, like the wild boar meat Gray old man sent to his son. What the townsfolk sent were mostly mountain products. Perhaps they weren't worth much, but they carried strong sentiment.

When Siegfrieda and Amu delivered the goods to the recipients on the list, they sometimes received a return gift order destined for Springvale.

Between the back and forth trips, before Siegfrieda and Amu even started promoting, they received a continuous stream of orders.

Just then, Siegfrieda noticed a purchase order.

["Please help me buy a jug of good wine at the Cats Tail Tavern, and absolutely do not reveal my name. —Duraf."]

Siegfrieda was speechless: "Uncle Duraf, this guy! Is the wine really that good?!"

"But since Uncle Duraf has already paid his Mora, I'll help him this one time. I definitely won't buy wine for him again next time. I hope little Diona can forgive me."

Whenever she thought of the conflict between Duraf and Diona, Siegfrieda got a headache. To become the Hunter's Chief in Springvale, Duraf relied not only on his outstanding hunting skills but also on his prestige in Springvale.

Although Duraf was unbearable when drunk, he was a very reliable person when sober. Otherwise, he wouldn't have raised such an excellent daughter as Diona.

Siegfrieda, who was also struggling financially, often received help from Duraf. Therefore, wanting to repay him, she was also trying to find a way to resolve the conflict between the father and daughter.

After hesitating for a long time in front of the Cats Tail Tavern, Siegfrieda finally pushed open the door and walked into the Cats Tail Tavern with Amu.

As she pushed the door open, she immediately met the proprietress of the Cats Tail Tavern, Margaret.
