Chapter 5 - Chapter 6: The Shattered Ascent

The Gutter didn't release them; it spat them out.

As the organic floor of the abyss surged upward, Kaito felt the atmospheric pressure change. The smell of rot and ozone vanished, replaced by the suffocatingly sweet scent of ceremonial incense and the roar of a hundred thousand voices. The transition was violent. One moment they were in the bowels of the world; the next, a circular platform of white jade hissed into place, locking into the center of the Great Obsidian Arena.

The sun was blinding. Kaito stood at the center of the sand, his crimson scarf caked in the dust of the deep, his hand still gripping Rin's.

Around them, the four remaining Champions stood in a wide circle. They weren't just warriors anymore; they were conduits. Each was bathed in a pillar of light—Gold, Crimson, Blue, and Steel—connected directly to the Emperor's observation deck high above.

"The Void returns," the Emperor's voice boomed, amplified by the very air molecules in the stadium. "And he brings a stowaway. A Blank and an Echo. A fitting tribute for the final stage."

The Team Battle: The Rite of Consumption

"Kaito," Rin whispered, her blind eyes scanning the crowd through thermal resonance. "I can't see the walls. There are no walls. The entire arena is a circuit. They're using the crowd's excitement to charge the Spirit-Ink in the other Champions."

Kaito looked at his opponents.

To his left stood Ryuga of the Iron Pillar, his metallic skin now glowing white-hot. To his right, Lady Vex, her silver hair crackling with the electrical blue of the Cloud-Walker bloodline. Opposite him was Cinnabar Queen Pyra, her robes made of living flame, and Raiden, who had survived the fall into the Gutter and looked half-mad with lightning-induced rage.

They weren't fighting for a trophy. They were fighting to survive the Emperor's hunger.

"Kaito Sora!" Ryuga roared, his voice a metallic gong. "The Emperor has promised the winner's wish. My wish is to erase the stain of your existence!"

Ryuga charged. He didn't run; he used Kinetic Ignition, exploding the sand behind him to launch himself like a railgun slug.

"Rin, 3 o'clock! Frequency shift—Low!" Kaito commanded.

Rin didn't hesitate. She slammed her palms into the sand. [Technique: Echo-Chamber]. A localized vibration created a pocket of "soft" space. When Ryuga hit the zone, his momentum didn't stop, but his direction was warped. He veered wildly to the right.

Kaito stepped into Ryuga's wake. He didn't punch. He reached out and touched Ryuga's glowing, white-hot shoulder.

[Technique: Thermal Inversion]

Kaito's "Zero-Soul" acted as a heat sink. He didn't burn. Instead, he sucked the thermal energy out of Ryuga's iron body. In a split second, the Iron Heir went from white-hot to brittle, frozen blue. The sudden contraction of his metallic cells caused Ryuga to scream as his own skin began to hairline-fracture.

"My turn," Raiden hissed, dropping from the sky like a thunderbolt.

"Kaito, look out!" Rin cried, but she was already being engaged by Lady Vex, who moved like a blur of wind and silver.

Kaito looked up. Raiden wasn't throwing lightning; he was lightning. A jagged bolt of pure blue intent.

Kaito closed his eyes. He stopped seeing the arena. He started seeing the Vector Lines. The world was nothing but math and momentum.

He activated the Phase-Shift Resonance he'd stolen from the Chimera. For 2.4 seconds, he existed between dimensions. Raiden's lightning bolt passed through Kaito's chest, striking the jade platform and shattering it into a million shards.

As Kaito solidified, he caught the tail end of the lightning bolt with his bare hand.

[Technique: The Kinetic Rebound]

He didn't absorb it this time. He redirected it. He spun on his heel and hurled the blue energy at Lady Vex, who was about to strike Rin. The Lightning struck Vex's electrical shield, creating an explosion of pure energy that sent both women flying in opposite directions.

"Stop holding back!" the Emperor's voice thundered, showing a hint of irritation. "Use the Ink! Feed the Mirror!"

The pillars of light connecting the Champions to the sky intensified. Suddenly, the four warriors didn't just look powerful—they looked possessed. Their eyes turned into black pools of Spirit-Ink.

"They're being overcharged," Rin yelled, scrambling back to Kaito's side. "The Emperor is pumping them full of raw spirit essence. If they hit us, they'll explode!"

Kaito looked at the four monsters closing in. He felt the "Zero-Soul" inside him begin to pulse. It wasn't a heartbeat. It was a vacuum. A hunger that was no longer satisfied with small shards.

"Rin, get behind me," Kaito said, his voice dropping to a frequency that made the sand hover in the air.

"What are you doing?"

Kaito untied the crimson scarf from his neck and wrapped it around his knuckles.

"They want a Mirror? I'll give them an Eclipse."

[Ultimate Technique: Absolute Zero – Event Horizon]

Kaito didn't move toward them. He stood still and pulled. He didn't pull with his hands; he pulled with the Void.

The air in the arena was suddenly sucked toward Kaito. The flames of the Cinnabar Queen, the lightning of Raiden, the kinetic heat of Ryuga, and the wind of Lady Vex—all of it was dragged toward Kaito's center.

The crowd went silent as the four "God-tier" attacks merged into a chaotic vortex of color, all spiraling into the small, dark-haired boy at the center of the arena.

Kaito's skin began to crack. Violet light leaked from his eyes. He wasn't reflecting the power. He was eating the Empire's history.

"Is that all?" Kaito whispered, his voice echoing through the Emperor's mind.

High above, the Sun-King stood up from his throne, his face pale. For the first time in three hundred years, the Emperor felt a chill.

The Void wasn't just a vessel. It was a predator.
