Chapter 4 - Side quests- 1

Next day, 7:30 A.M.

Nate was sitting on the sofa in the living room eating an apple while watching some random program on television.

This program that honestly, was incredibly boring. A torture for the eyes, but it wasn't as if Nate had anything better to do.

Today, as on any other day, Nate had woken up early, more precisely at 4 in the morning. With nothing interesting to do, he finished all the schoolwork at 5:30, took a shower at 5:45, cleaned the room at 6:25 and finished Calamity: Descend upon us at 7.

He finished everything that, in theory, should have kept him busy during the long weekend. But now that he had finished everything, he was probably the person with most free time in the world.

The question now was, what should he do?

I could go to the skate park and do some tricks with Sky and Mark. Wait, it won't work, they're out of town for their grandmother's birthday. Going to the park without them wouldn't be fun, so better not.

I could call Mike to go for a walk with me. That would be fun. But better not, he'll probably want to bring his sister with him, and having to put up with her would be a pain. Better leave it for another day.

Could I spend the day with Sophia? ... No, not really.

So... am I going to spend the day alone?

Nate wasn't used to doing things alone. In reality, he wasn't used to being alone. Much of his identity and hobbies depended on the people around him, so he was almost always accompanied by someone, be it his sister or a friend.

But being alone was something Nate didn't like. Normal relationships were something he was still exploring, and after getting so attached to the people around him, the idea of doing something without them was very strange.

You could say it was a kind of emotional dependence. Before he couldn't do anything without his parents, now he can't do anything without his friends.

It shouldn't be a big deal. I'm used to being alone, so spending a few days without them shouldn't be a big deal. I'll see everyone on Wednesday anyway.

So I'll take advantage of these 4 days to do something interesting. Walking around the city, buying something nice, eating ice cream... things like that.

Things like that...

"Nate? "

I really need to stop this.

The person who called Nate was none other than his sister Sophia. Just like him, Sophia also woke up early, despite being considerably later than Nate.

Sophia Grimm. My older sister. 27 years old, 5'10 tall, and just like me, has blonde hair and green eyes that we pull from our mother.

She has been living with me since our parents died. Our relationship is... a little strange so to speak.

"Good morning" Nate greeted looking at her.

"Good morning" Sophia greeted back "So, what were you thinking about? I tried to call you a few times but I don't think you listened "

"No big deal..." Nate replied " Just... I was thinking about what I'm going to do today "

"Can't you go for a walk with your friends? "

"They're busy" Saying that sentence out loud was more painful than Nate thought.

"All of them? "

"All of them," Nate replied.

Sophia kept looking at him with a mixture of surprise and pity.

"You need to get more friends"

You talk like it's easy. Well, maybe it is, and maybe I'm the one who's making it seem harder than it really is. You just need to find someone who has interests similar to yours, talk a little with them and bam, friends.

No, it's definitely not like that.

Honestly, I don't know how to socialize with others. 90% of this is my parents' fault, but that shouldn't stop me from making new friends, meeting new people, having new experiences.

So why is it so difficult for me to do something so simple?

...

Meh, I'll think about it later.

"So, what are you going to do today? " Sophia asked.

"I think I'm going to walk around the city " Nate said taking another bite of the apple "I don't have anything better to do"

"You could spend the day with me" Sophia suggested crossing her arms.

"Pass" The answer came out faster than Nate expected "I know you have more important things to do today"

"What if I don't have it? "

"I know you'll have it" Nate said getting up and going towards the door.

"Will you finish that apple? " Sophia asked when Nate was almost opening the door of the house.

Nate looked at the half-eaten apple, at Sophia, and then at the apple.

"No" Nate replied throwing the apple at Sophia who grabbed it with ease.

"Thank you"

Nate just left home without answering.

4 days... 4 days without my friends, 4 days alone, a whole holiday with me alone... again.

All right. It's only 4 days...

Only 4 days...

The day was calmer than Nate expected, and that was disappointing. Very disappointing.

Nate expected something interesting. Something that, even if only for a few moments, made him forget that he was alone once again.

Some great, brilliant, extravagant, flashy, difficult to ignore, extremely fun, immeasurable, fantastic. Something like that.

Instead, all that received him was a cold morning with cloudy skies and few people on the street. He even thought about going through the usual places, but it wouldn't be fun without the others.

Final result? Nate was sitting on a bench in the city center, more bored than when he started his "journey".

Now it was 10:30 in the morning, he had spent hours doing nothing and had already given up any chance to have a fun day.

Chato….

I thought something interesting would happen as soon as I left home, but everything remains the same. All boring and boring as always.

Should I go back home? Honestly, it doesn't seem like a bad idea anymore. But what would I do at home? I've read most of the books and I've finished most of the games in my room, with the exception of a few interesting ones.

And I also forgot my keys. And I know Sophia won't get home so soon, so it's completely unfeasible for me to go home now.

Well, unless I use Restart to come back and get the keys... I could do that, but I don't feel like it right now.

Ahh...

I wonder what I do now?

Nate sighed and got up from the bench with his head down, ready for a few more very depressing hours.

But while walking through the crowd of people in the city center, someone bumped into him hard. Nate almost fell, but managed to balance himself. The person who bumped into him just kept walking in a hurry.

Under normal circumstances, Nate would just shrug it off and keep walking as if nothing had happened. But today was different.

Maybe out of curiosity, maybe because he simply had nothing to do, or maybe because he thought something interesting would happen, Nate started following that person.
