Chapter 6 - What Lies Beyond Limits

The training grounds slowly emptied as the sun began to set.

The earlier noise—wood striking wood, bursts of Aether, instructors shouting commands—faded into the distance as one group after another left the field.

The energy that once filled the area thinned.

But Kael remained.

The wooden sword rested in his hand.

His stance was steady.

"…Again."

He stepped forward and swung.

The strike was clean.

Not powerful.

But precise.

He adjusted his footing slightly.

Swung again.

Each movement was deliberate.

Each correction small.

From a distance, it would look unimpressive.

No Aether.

No aura.

No visible power.

But to Kael—

Every repetition mattered.

Because he wasn't trying to be strong now.

He was building something that wouldn't break later.

The words from earlier echoed faintly in his mind.

"Why is he even here?""He can't use Aether."

Kael didn't react.

Because they weren't wrong.

Right now—

He was weak.

"…Not yet."

He lowered the sword.

His muscles felt heavy.

His arms strained slightly from repeated motion.

But something was different compared to before.

The fatigue wasn't overwhelming.

It was controlled.

Measured.

"…Physical Efficiency."

The skill he had unlocked.

It wasn't visible.

But it was there.

Reducing waste.

Improving control.

Kael exhaled slowly.

Then placed the wooden sword back in its rack.

It was enough for now.

As he turned to leave—

"Brother!"

Lyra's voice reached him.

He stopped.

She approached quickly, slowing down as she reached his side.

"You stayed again," she said softly.

"Yes."

She looked at him carefully.

"…You're pushing too hard."

"I'm progressing."

"That doesn't mean you should hurt yourself."

Her tone softened.

"…Just be careful, okay?"

Kael looked at her for a moment.

"…I will."

She relaxed slightly.

Then added—

"There are guests today."

Kael nodded.

"I noticed."

"Mother said it's about the Ashen border," Lyra continued. "Something's changing."

Kael's gaze sharpened slightly.

"…I see."

They walked together toward the estate.

The closer they got, the more noticeable the shift became.

Servants moved quickly through the halls.

Guards stood more alert.

The air itself felt different.

Tighter.

Focused.

This wasn't a normal evening.

The large doors to the dining hall opened as they approached.

Warm light spilled out.

Inside—

Everything was prepared with precision.

A long table stretched across the center.

Dishes arranged perfectly.

Seats aligned with purpose.

At the head of the table sat Duke Aric Veyrith.

Still.

Unshakable.

To his right sat Duchess Elena Veyrith, her expression calm, her gaze observant.

Several others were present.

A knight in formal armor.

Two nobles dressed in refined attire.

And a man bearing the insignia of the royal family.

A royal envoy.

Kael understood immediately.

"…This is about the kingdom."

He and Lyra took their seats.

For a brief moment, only silence filled the room.

Then—

"The eastern border has become unstable."

The envoy's voice broke through.

Kael listened.

"We've received multiple reports," he continued. "Ashen activity has increased significantly."

The knight added—

"And the creatures are changing. Stronger. Less predictable."

A brief silence followed.

Kael processed the information.

The Ashen Lands were already dangerous.

If something there was evolving—

Then this wasn't a minor issue.

The envoy leaned forward slightly.

"The Crown is considering reinforcements. Possibly restructuring command."

A subtle tension formed.

Then—

"That won't be necessary."

Aric's voice cut through the room.

Calm.

But absolute.

"I've held that border for years," he continued. "I understand its behavior."

No one interrupted.

Because his authority wasn't questioned.

Elena spoke gently—

"Even so, we should not ignore change."

Aric nodded once.

"It will be monitored."

The discussion continued.

Trade.

Resources.

Military positioning.

Kael listened quietly.

"…Power isn't just strength."

It was decisions.

Control.

Influence.

At one point, a noble spoke.

"The next generation must be prepared."

His gaze shifted.

Toward Lyra.

Then—

Toward Kael.

A brief pause.

Lyra's fingers tightened slightly.

Kael remained still.

Aric's voice ended it.

"My children will be prepared."

Simple.

Final.

Then—

"Kael."

Kael looked up.

"What is strength?" Aric asked.

Kael thought briefly.

"…The ability to move forward without being stopped."

Silence.

"…Explain."

"If something can stop you, then you're not strong enough."

The knight frowned slightly.

"That lacks structure."

"It doesn't need one."

Another silence.

"…And how do you achieve that?"

"By removing limitations."

Aric nodded once.

"…Continue your training."

Dinner ended soon after.

The guests left.

The hall quieted.

But Kael didn't return to his room.

"…Removing limitations."

He turned.

And walked back toward the training courtyard.

The night air was colder now.

The courtyard was empty.

Silent.

Perfect.

Kael stepped forward—

And began running.

No hesitation.

Faster.

Then faster.

His breathing deepened.

His muscles tightened.

Pain spread.

But he didn't stop.

"…Not yet."

Step.

Step.

Step—

His vision blurred.

His body resisted.

Then—

It gave out.

He collapsed.

The ground struck hard.

His body refused to move.

"…Move."

Nothing.

"…Move."

Still nothing.

He had reached his limit.

No—

Gone beyond it.

And in that moment—

The system reacted.

[Condition Met][Physical Limit Exceeded]

[Skill Unlocked: Physical Efficiency Lv.1]

A strange sensation spread through him.

His breathing stabilized.

His muscles responded again.

But something else remained.

A deeper sensation.

Heavy.

Compressed.

"…What is this?"

He focused.

And felt it.

A pulse.

Not Aether.

Something else.

The system flickered again.

[Unknown Condition Detected]

[Analyzing…]

[Bloodline Detected][Status: Sealed][Progress: 3% Unsealed]

Kael's breath slowed.

"…Bloodline."

A surge ran through his body.

Not explosive—

But dense.

Heavy.

Like something ancient had stirred.

He clenched his hand.

For a brief moment—

His strength felt… different.

Heavier.

More real.

Then it faded.

"…Titan."

His gaze sharpened.

"…Where did this come from?"

Not his father.

Not his mother.

"…Then it's older."

Something buried.

Forgotten.

Or sealed.

The system responded faintly.

[Origin: Unknown]

Kael's eyes darkened slightly.

"…Good."

Because that meant—

It wasn't ordinary.

The interface expanded fully.

Kael stared at it.

"…Only three percent."

And yet—

It already changed him.

"…Then I'll reach the rest."

No hesitation.

No doubt.

He looked up at the night sky.

Dark.

Endless.

Unknown.

"…I'll find out."

Where it came from.

What it truly was.

And how far it could go.

Because this—

Was his power.

And he would take it—

To its limit. 🔥
