Chapter 10 You can tell he's a seasoned anime fan from the first word.
[You have obtained your own wand. Time-limited mission completed. Magic Power Index +1.]
After Lynn paid Ollivander's nine Galleons, the system announced the mission completion.
Compared to other magical talent points, the change from the increased Magic Power Index was much more noticeable to Lynn.
Something within him, previously like a delicate seedling, had suddenly grown into the size of a sapling, as if it had been given a magic boost.
Although still small, it was much more substantial than before.
That thing must be magic power.
After completing a time-limited mission, Lynn skillfully twirled the wand between his fingers, then gently stroked the smooth, straight shaft. The slightly cool touch put him in a good mood.
After leaving Ollivander's wand shop, Lynn went to Flourish and Blotts and bought enough Hogwarts textbooks, as well as some books recommended by the clerks for beginners in magic.
There were quite a few books, but the shop offered free shipping. Lynn left his home address, and the bookstore manager promised to have them delivered to his door by owl within a week.
There were also other supplies, like cauldrons, all shipped via owl, convenient for wizards, but they practically didn't treat owls like people.
Hmm… well, it really didn't need to be treated like people.
In the end, he only had his Hogwarts robe left to buy.
But these things needed to be custom-made. After Lynn had his measurements taken, it would take some time for the robe to be made. With nothing else to do, he went outside and squatted in front of the nearby magical creature pet shop, petting a seemingly sullen owl.
"Are you a new student at Hogwarts this year? Interested in buying an owl as a pet?" a shop assistant was enthusiastically trying to sell Lynn their magical creatures.
"Although this owl may look a bit introverted, its parents are both Hogwarts post owls at Hogwarts, with excellent bloodlines. After being born, it has been carefully trained by our shop's trainers, making it an excellent wizarding companion."
Lynn gently touched the sharp beak of the supposedly superior owl with his finger. The owl shrank its small head, staring at him with displeasure.
"It doesn't seem to like me much," Lynn shrugged. "Besides, I have no intention of getting a pet."
Just as he was about to get up and go back to check on the progress of his school uniform, he suddenly heard a small, soft, cute voice.
"Hey! Hey hey!"
Lynn turned to look at the source of the voice.
It was a pure white hamster, about the size of a fist, with a round body, perched between the bars of its cage, looking at him with its bright black eyes. It looked adorable.
Lynn was amused by its voice. He squatted down again in front of the hamster's cage, grinning.
"I can tell you're a seasoned anime fan just from its voice."
"Hey?"
The hamster tilted its head, looking at him curiously.
"What kind of magical creature is this?" Lynn asked the shop assistant, pointing at the hamster.
The pet shop clerk seemed clueless about the creature's origins, stammering for a while before blatantly spouting nonsense.
He claimed it was a mouse of considerable pedigree, with ancestors who had collaborated with Merlin in magical experiments, making it a true noble.
Lynn immediately stood up, stating he'd offering at most one Galleon, offering a maximum of one Galleon.
And so… the hamster was his.
Holding the cage, Lynn waved it in front of him. The hamster wasn't afraid, blinking its little eyes at its new owner.
He hadn't intended to keep a pet, but the mouse's voice unexpectedly brought back memories of his past life.
He figured it was fate, so Lynn bought it.
"Since I've decided to keep you, I should give you a name…" Lynn thought for a moment.
"Since you're a die-hard anime fan, how about Umaru?"
"Yeah! Yeah!"
Umaru's response was ambiguous, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, but its name was thus decided by its master.
Lynn returned to the robe shop with Umaru, where Madam Malkin had already finished the school robe and was waiting for him.
"Child, come and try it on. See if there's anything that needs altering."
He changed into the robe and smugly looked at himself in the mirror. He
was still as handsome as ever; whether in normal clothes or wizarding attire, his good looks made everything look incredibly stylish.
"Thank you, Madam. I'm very satisfied," Lynn said to Madam Malkin. "May I stay here for a while? Professor Fawkes and I agreed that I should wait for him here."
Madam Malkin helped him wrap up the robe: "Of course, child."
He didn't just sit there, casually flipping through a Hogwarts textbook.
From Lynn's professional perspective from his previous life, the Charms textbook in his hands was really poorly written.
But considering the way wizards use magic, this was understandable.
After all, learning magic isn't something you can just memorize and write; it's highly practical, and it's difficult to fully explain the casting process through written descriptions alone.
Like art students in high school, whether it's fine arts or music, they need professional teachers to guide them, not just to learn by themselves in isolation.
However, there are some simple spells that can be learned simply by reading a book, at least in Lynn's opinion, they weren't difficult.
"What's going on today? Why are so many goblins coming out of Gringotts?"
Madam Malkin's quiet mutterings caught Lynn's attention.
He looked out the window at the long street of Diagon Alley, where many ugly, short, humanoid creatures were patrolling.
They wore Gringotts' distinctive uniforms, their expressions serious, their steps hurried
as if they were chasing someone.
...
Kurt was the department head of Gringotts' Diagon Alley branch in England.
He was in a terrible mood.
Just moments before, Gringotts had been robbed.
Yes, Gringotts could be robbed, though rare, it wasn't unusual.
The stolen items weren't important, but the nature of the incident was extremely serious. If not handled properly, it would greatly affect Gringotts' reputation, and even the reputation of the goblins.
"We lost him, sir," one of his goblins reported back.
Kurt's already unpleasant face turned even uglier, like a rotten orange.
"You'd better give me some good news now, or I'm about to deliver some bad news you don't want to hear," Kurt said coldly to his subordinate, showing no mercy.
The goblin seemed very nervous, stammering, "We saw his face while chasing him, and a goblin recognized him."
"Who?" Kurt's spirits lifted; at least they'd found something.
"Hans Johnson."
Kurt had no recollection of him. "Who is he?"
The goblin swallowed hard. "
He's the owner of the stolen treasure vault."
Kurt looked at his subordinate as if he were a mindless monster. "He would steal from himself?"
"Not only that, according to our records, this Hans Johnson died of old age nine years ago."
"Are you telling me this is a ghost committing the crime?" Kurt found it absurd.
"Could it be… a Polyjuice Potion?"
"You said he's been dead for nine years. What kind of potion master could create a potion that lasts so long? And what's the point?"
He stroked his chin, lost in thought.
After a long pause, he looked at his subordinate again.
"Is there any chance of recovering the treasure?"
The goblin shook his head.
"That thing is practically worthless; we didn't leave any tracking marks on it."
Kurt tapped the wooden table with his long, thin fingers.
"It probably can't be kept secret. The lost item may be worthless, but our reputation is priceless.
Be prepared to control the narrative. Don't be afraid to spend Galleons. Try to get the Daily Prophet to focus on the ghosts' crimes and downplay Gringotts' existence. You should know what to do."
"I understand."
