Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 18:THE KING WHO FELT THE STORM

Chapter Eighteen

The throne room had always been a place of control.

Order.

Power.

Authority.

Nothing happened within these walls without the king knowing.

Until now.

King Aurelian stilled.

Just for a moment.

But that moment

It was enough.

Because he felt it.

Not as a thought.

Not as a sound.

But as a disturbance.

Deep.

Ancient.

Wrong.

His grip tightened slightly on the arm of his throne.

The court continued speaking

Ministers arguing.

Advisors whispering.

But their voices faded into nothing.

Because something had shifted.

And he knew exactly what it meant.

"She's awakened."

The words left his lips quietly.

But they silenced the room.

Every noble turned.

Every breath paused.

Because no one needed to ask who she was.

The princess.

The one who should never have returned.

The one who was never meant to live.

A man stepped forward from the line of advisors.

Older.

Careful.

"Your Majesty," he said cautiously,

"perhaps it is only rumor—"

"Do not insult me."

The words cut sharply.

The man fell silent instantly.

Because the king did not guess.

He knew.

He always knew.

His gaze darkened slightly.

"I felt it," he said.

A pause.

"The seal is weakening."

That...

That caused fear.

Not confusion.

Fear.

Because there were things in this kingdom

Things no one spoke of.

And that seal

It was one of them.

A younger noble stepped forward, unable to hide his unease.

"If that is true…" he said slowly,

"then the princess"

"Is a threat."

The king didn't hesitate.

Didn't soften it.

Didn't deny it.

The word echoed across the chamber.

Threat.

Not daughter.

Not heir.

Threat.

His fingers tapped once against the throne.

Slow.

Measured.

"She should have died that night," he said.

No emotion.

Only fact.

Silence swallowed the room.

Because no one dared respond to that.

No one except one.

"What would you have us do?"

The voice came from the shadows near the pillars.

A figure stepped forward.

Dressed in black.

Unmarked.

Unnoticed

Until now.

The king's gaze shifted.

"Watch her," he said.

A pause.

"And if the seal breaks completely…"

The room held its breath.

His voice dropped.

"End it."

Cold.

Final.

No hesitation.

Because to him

This was not cruelty.

It was necessity.

The figure in black bowed slightly.

"As you command."

And just like that

The fate of the princess was sealed again.

Or so he believed.

Outside the throne room

The storm was already forming.

Seraphina stood at the balcony overlooking the kingdom.

The city stretched far beyond her sight

Alive.

Unaware.

They didn't know what was coming.

But they would.

Soon.

"You feel it too, don't you?"

Kael's voice was quieter now.

More careful.

Because she was changing.

Not just in power.

In presence.

Seraphina didn't turn.

"Yes," she said.

A pause.

"He knows."

Kael's expression darkened slightly.

"You're sure?"

She nodded once.

"He felt it," she said.

"And now he's afraid."

That...

That almost sounded like satisfaction.

Almost.

Kael stepped closer.

"That makes him dangerous," he said.

Seraphina finally turned to look at him.

"He was always dangerous."

A pause.

"I just wasn't before."

Silence.

Heavy.

Real.

Kael studied her.

"You're not alone in this," he said.

And he meant it.

Not loyalty.

Not duty.

Something deeper.

"I know," she replied.

And for a moment

Her expression softened.

Just slightly.

Because with him

She didn't have to pretend.

But then

It was gone.

Replaced by something sharper.

Stronger.

"I won't run," she said.

Kael didn't expect her to.

"I won't hide."

Of course not.

Her gaze shifted back toward the kingdom.

Toward the throne.

Toward him.

"If he wants a threat…" she said quietly,

"Then I'll become one."

The wind rose again

Not wild.

Not uncertain.

But deliberate.

Like something had chosen a side.

And it was hers.

Behind them...

Mealis watched silently.

Not intervening.

Not guiding.

Just observing.

Because this..

This was the moment she had waited for.

Not when Seraphina gained power.

But when she chose what to do with it.

And now..

There was no turning back.

Far below

Unseen.

A shadow moved through the palace halls.

Silent.

Precise.

Watching.

Waiting.

The king had given his command.

And someone

Was already preparing to carry it out.
