Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The Voice That Stayed

Vesper didn't sleep.

She couldn't.

Not after hearing it.

That voice—

Soft. Familiar. Wrong.

"…Vesper.…"

It lingered in her mind like an echo that refused to fade.

Morning came eventually, dragging light into the room. But unlike before, the sunlight didn't comfort her anymore.

Because this time—

The fear hadn't disappeared with the darkness.

It stayed.

The Mirror Test

The cloth still covered the mirror.

Vesper sat on the edge of her bed, staring at it.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

If I don't look… nothing happens.

That's what she told herself.

But another thought pushed back—

If something is there… I need to know.

Slowly, she stood up.

Each step toward the mirror felt like walking toward something irreversible.

Her hand reached out.

Paused.

Then—

She pulled the cloth away.

The mirror revealed her reflection instantly.

Perfect.

Normal.

Synchronized.

Vesper let out a shaky breath.

"See… nothing," she whispered.

She raised her hand.

Her reflection copied.

She tilted her head.

Same movement.

No delay.

No smile.

No glowing eyes.

Nothing.

For a brief moment—

She felt relief.

The Delay

Then she turned away.

Just for a second.

Just enough to break eye contact.

And then—

Something made her look back again.

She didn't know why.

Instinct.

Fear.

Something deeper.

Her eyes snapped to the mirror.

And this time—

Her reflection was still looking forward.

Not at her.

But straight ahead.

Unmoving.

Vesper froze.

Her breath caught.

"No…"

Slowly… painfully slowly…

The reflection turned its head.

To face her again.

A second too late.

That was all it took.

Reality cracked.

School — The Distance Grows

Vesper stopped reacting normally to things.

People noticed.

But no one understood.

Her friend tried again.

"You're seriously freaking me out now. Just tell me what's going on."

Vesper looked at her.

Really looked.

For a moment, she considered telling everything.

The dreams.

The shadow.

The mirror.

The voice.

But then—

What would happen?

Would they believe her?

Or worse—

Would they think she was losing her mind?

"…It's nothing," Vesper said quietly.

Her friend sighed in frustration."You always say that."

Because it was easier.

Because the truth sounded impossible.

A New Fear

That day, something new happened.

Something small.

But terrifying.

Vesper was walking down the corridor when she heard footsteps behind her.

Normal.

Common.

She didn't think much of it.

Until she stopped.

And the footsteps didn't.

They continued for one extra step.

Vesper's body stiffened.

Slowly, she turned around.

No one.

The corridor was empty.

But she knew what she heard.

Something is out of sync.

Not just reflections.

Not just dreams.

Reality itself.

The Fragmented Memory

That evening, Vesper tried to remember when all of this started.

There had to be a beginning.

A trigger.

Something she missed.

She closed her eyes, forcing her mind to go back.

Days ago.

Weeks.

Nothing.

Just normal life.

Then—

A flicker.

A memory.

Incomplete.

Blurred.

A place.

Dark.

Wet.

The sound of—

Drip.

Her eyes snapped open.

Her breathing quickened.

"Why can't I remember…?"

It was like something was blocking her.

Or hiding.

The Name

That night, she didn't even try to sleep.

She sat on her bed, back against the wall, staring at the door.

Waiting.

Listening.

Silence stretched endlessly.

Until—

"…Vesper…"

The voice again.

Clearer now.

Closer.

Her chest tightened.

"What do you want?" she whispered.

For the first time—

It responded immediately.

"…You forgot."

Her mind went blank.

"What did I forget?" she asked, her voice shaking.

Silence.

Then—

"…Me."

A chill ran down her spine.

That answer—

It didn't feel like a threat.

It felt like… truth.

The Reflection Speaks

Vesper turned slowly toward the mirror.

This time—

It wasn't covered.

She hadn't touched it.

Had she?

Her thoughts stumbled.

She didn't remember uncovering it.

But there it was.

Exposed.

Waiting.

Her reflection stared back.

Still.

Silent.

Then—

It moved.

Not following her.

But on its own.

It stepped closer.

Inside the mirror.

As if the glass had depth.

Vesper couldn't breathe.

"You're not real…" she whispered.

The reflection smiled faintly.

"…Neither are you."

The words didn't echo.

They landed.

Heavy.

Final.

The Shift

The room flickered.

Just for a moment.

And in that moment—

Something changed.

Vesper felt it.

Not around her.

Inside her.

Like something had shifted position.

Like two things had overlapped—

And then slightly separated.

Her vision blurred.

Her head throbbed.

And suddenly—

She wasn't sure which side she was on.

The Almost Swap

For a split second—

Vesper saw herself.

Not in the mirror.

But standing in front of her.

And she—

Was inside the mirror.

The perspective flipped.

Reality twisted.

Then snapped back instantly.

She gasped, collapsing to her knees.

"What… was that…?"

Her voice sounded distant.

Even to herself.

The Truth Begins

The reflection spoke again.

Calm.

Patient.

"…You left me."

Vesper shook her head. "I don't even know you!"

"…You did."

The green glow returned.

Faint.

Building.

"…You just forgot."

Tears formed in her eyes.

Because something inside her—

A small, buried part—

Was starting to feel like that might be true.

Final Scene — The Question

The lights dimmed.

The room grew quiet.

The reflection leaned closer.

Its eyes glowing brighter now.

"…Who do you think is real, Vesper?"

Silence.

Heavy.

Crushing.

Vesper couldn't answer.

Because for the first time—

She wasn't sure.
