Underground Exit Route — Marina South
The passage was narrow. The damp concrete walls carried moisture, and the flickering lights barely held, as if the system was running at its lowest capacity. Footsteps echoed faintly, muted but still sharp.
Chloe walked ahead, her pace unbroken. Vincent followed two paces behind, close enough to protect, far enough not to crowd.
Until she stopped. He nearly collided with her.
She turned abruptly, her eyes sharp, her voice cutting through the stale air.
"Explain."
"You knew he would come."
Vincent's gaze was steady, his tone unshaken.
"I knew he would move."
"Then why bring me here? Are you gambling, or calculating?"
Vincent's voice was calm, but carried an edge of command.
"I'm controlling the outcome."
Chloe let out a cold laugh.
"That wasn't control. That was barely avoiding capture."
Vincent stepped closer, his presence filling the corridor.
"If I hadn't controlled it, you'd already be in his car."
Chloe didn't argue. Instead, she asked, "Where do you want me to go now?"
"Out of Singapore."
"Where?"
"I'll arrange it."
Her eyes narrowed.
"You'll arrange? You forget, I'm not yours."
Vincent leaned closer, his voice low, absolute.
"You're not mine, but right now, you're on my side."
Chloe held his gaze.
"That's because you're useful."
Vincent's lips curved faintly, but his eyes remained cold.
"So are you."
The distance between them vanished. The corridor was narrow, and so was the space between them.
A low vibration rolled through the air outside. Not cars. Helicopters. Getting closer.
"He came himself," Chloe said.
Vincent nodded once, unflinching.
"Yes."
"You still claim you control this?"
Vincent's eyes locked on hers, his tone cutting through the noise.
"I control the fact that you're still here."
The atmosphere shifted. No longer confrontation. Something else.
Chloe stepped closer.
"What do you want?"
Vincent's eyes were fixed on her face, unwavering.
"You."
The silence that followed was short, but it was enough to change everything.
Vincent's voice was rough, decisive.
"I've waited a long time."
Outside, the sound of blades grew louder. Chloe didn't speak. She only looked at him, then grabbed his collar and pulled him down.
The kiss was brutal, urgent, pressed against the ticking clock.
It wasn't gentle. It wasn't slow.
It was short, fierce, and absolute.
It was confirmation, a clear acknowledgment that they stood on the same side and that there was no retreat.
Chloe broke away first, her breath uneven, her eyes sharp.
"Now it's clear. Don't make me your weakness."
Vincent's hand lingered on her wrist, his grip firm.
"You won't. You'll become his."
Chloe's brow furrowed.
"You'd better make sure I'm not."
Vincent finally released her, his voice cold and certain.
"Go."
The door at the end of the passage swung open, flooding the corridor with blinding light.
They walked out together, side by side, without pause.
Because this time, they weren't running.
They were changing the battlefield.

Marina South — Restricted Landing Zone
The wind slammed down. The helicopter's rotors tore the air apart, dragging dust into violent spirals. Vision fractured, sound magnified, the entire landing zone became a stage of raw force.
Chloe stood at the edge, her coat whipping in the turbulence. Vincent was beside her, half a step away. His presence was not protection, it was dominance. Anyone who wanted to reach her would have to face him first.
The helicopter touched down. The door opened. Julian Vesper stepped out alone, no guards, no hesitation. His stride carried the arrogance of a man who believed the ground belonged to him.
He stopped three meters away. His eyes moved first to Chloe, then to Vincent.
"You disappoint me, Chloe." His voice was soft, stripped of emotion, but sharp as a blade.
Chloe's reply was steady. "What you gave me was a trap that would have dragged me into an investigation. I chose another path."
Julian's gaze hardened. "You took my asset."
"Not yours," Chloe shot back. "You were only preparing to acquire it."
The air grew colder. Julian turned to Vincent.
"Vincent Thorne. I should have known it was you."
Vincent's tone was calm, but carried a weight that pressed against the silence. "You did know. You were simply too slow."
Julian nodded once. "You moved against my design."
Vincent's reply was immediate. "And you moved against mine."
The pause that followed was heavy. Then Julian said, "Hand her over."
Chloe's fingers tightened, but she did not move. Vincent stepped forward, his body cutting the distance, his presence filling the space like a wall of steel.
"She does not belong to you." His voice was cold, absolute.
Julian's lips curved faintly. "She belonged to my system only moments ago."
Vincent's eyes locked on him, unyielding. "She belongs to no system now. She stands with me."
Julian gave a short laugh. "You think you're saving her?"
Vincent's gaze was merciless. "I am not saving her. I am choosing her."
The air shifted, taut and dangerous. Chloe held his stare, silent confirmation passing between them.
Julian's expression changed for the first time. "Are you certain? You would open a war with me for her?"
Vincent's answer was sharp, final. "It has already begun."
Chloe's voice cut in. "Did either of you think to ask me?"
Both men turned. She stepped forward, standing beside Vincent, shoulder to shoulder.
"I'm not going back," she said to Julian. "Not because of him. Because you are not worth it."
Julian's eyes narrowed, then he nodded slowly. "Very well. Then we change the terms."
He looked at Vincent. "You keep her. I destroy you."
Vincent's reply was ice. "You can try."
Julian's gaze lingered on Chloe one last time before he turned and boarded the helicopter. The rotors roared again, lifting the machine into the sky until it vanished into the haze.
Silence fell. Dust settled.
Chloe remained still, then spoke. "You didn't need to say that."
Vincent's eyes met hers. "Which part?"
"'I chose her.'"
Vincent's voice was unwavering. "It was the truth."
Chloe exhaled, tension breaking. "You've made this more complicated."
Vincent stepped closer, not with pressure but with certainty. "It was already complicated. Now it is simply clear."
Chloe nodded once. "Fine."
From that moment, it was no longer negotiation, no longer testing boundaries. It was choice.
And they were standing on the same side.
