Chapter 106 - Chapter 104: Daenerys's Dragon Dream

Daenerys's dragons were born.

Following Drogo's death, Daenerys walked into the funeral pyre; the witch was burned to death, but she remained unharmed.

When Jorah Mormont saw Daenerys, her hair burned away, standing up from the ashes with three hatchlings, he immediately knelt and pledged his loyalty.

From then on, Daenerys earned the titles of "The Unburnt" and "Mother of Dragons."

But she was not happy; these titles meant that Daenerys had lost her husband and her child.

Sometimes she would sit on a high mound with her three dragons, gazing out at the distance and the starry sky—this was what the two of them loved to do most when Drogo was still alive.

That Dothraki, Daenerys thought; Drogo clearly looked savage and backward, yet he was exceptionally gentle toward Daenerys.

When Daenerys learned the Dothraki language, Drogo also began to learn the Common Tongue of Westeros, and the feelings between the couple grew warmer as they spent more time together.

Therefore, after Drogo became a vegetable due to the witch's blood magic, Daenerys felt an unprecedented sorrow, a sorrow even more intense than when Viserys and Ser Willem Darry died.

Drogo was dead, and all his men had scattered to make their own way; only a few were willing to stay and serve Daenerys.

The young Mother of Dragons finally understood the responsibility on her shoulders at this moment; she needed to lead them, and she needed to seek a better future for these loyal people.

And, she needed to counterattack Westeros and reclaim the iron throne that belonged to her family.

The ideal was good, but reality was fraught with difficulties; the first thing Daenerys had to do was find a place to stay.

Daenerys trekked through the wasteland, following the red comet in the sky, and during this time, she dreamt again.

The dreams contained all sorts of scenes: Daenerys dreamt of Ser Willem still being alive, dreamt of her brother Viserys, and also dreamt of the days she spent with Drogo.

However, the person—or rather, the dragon—that Daenerys dreamt of most was someone else.

Roman Whent.

That man had black scales and a long tail, distinct black dragon horns, and often spread his dark cyan wings to soar through the sky, traveling back and forth across his territory.

Daenerys followed Roman's figure and saw the entirety of the House Whent's territory; this was the first time she had seen this homeland, which she had never met, so clearly.

The Mother of Dragons was surprised to discover that Roman's territory was so prosperous; although she had seen several Free Cities, this was the first time she had seen such dense clusters of buildings and various unheard-of workshop facilities.

Compared to the people of the Free Cities, the subjects under Roman were stronger, and most of them would show heartfelt smiles when they saw Roman.

"Roman Whent, why are the people not afraid when they see his wings and tail? Why can the people live so happily? How did he do it?"

Driven by curiosity, Daenerys began to observe Roman's work; she learned many theories from Roman that she had never heard of before, and she also witnessed the various talents surrounding Roman.

Although in reality, Daenerys and her group were trapped in the wilderness with their lives hanging by a thread, she still learned hungrily in her dreams.

She felt that those theories of Roman were the knowledge required to become a ruler.

The more Daenerys learned, the more she admired him, and at the same time, the more she feared him.

As Daenerys gained a deeper understanding of Roman, his true appearance was revealed to her.

It was a giant dark cyan dragon, its scales smooth and neat, with a well-proportioned body, not as unkempt as Daenerys's three little dragons.

This dragon, Roman, was also different from her hatchlings; Roman was a four-legged, two-winged magic dragon, possessing a massive body yet agile movements and astonishing speed.

Coupled with that thoughtful expression of Roman's, Daenerys could even see the look of wisdom revealed on the giant dark cyan dragon.

Daenerys was terrified; she recalled the situation that had appeared in her previous dream, where Roman had killed her son who had transformed into a dragon in the dream, and even cut off his head.

The Mother of Dragons could not tell if he was a friend or an enemy, but she knew that only when she became stronger and held enough power in her hands could she be unafraid of everything in Westeros.

----

The Crownlands, new territory of the House Whent.

Roman had been restless lately; he thought it was just because he was too tired, but even after resting for a few days, it hadn't eased, which caught Philia's attention.

"Lord Roman, you should really take a break lately. I feel like your complexion is very poor."

The young girl was currently cleaning the ears of Roman, who was lying on her lap, and took this opportunity to remind Roman to take better care of his health.

Although Philia knew that her and Roman's bodies were not comparable to ordinary people's, and even long periods of high-intensity work wouldn't have any effect, the young girl ultimately did not want Roman to work so hard.

"Thank you, Philia. The construction of the new territory has come to an end recently, and our reserve of officials is not quite enough, so we can indeed stop for a while. Let's take a break together for a period and give ourselves a vacation."

Hearing these words from Roman, Philia immediately giggled: "Hehe, then Lord Roman, you must come back to Harrenhal with me to attend the harvest feast! You haven't participated for a very long time!"

Roman nodded slightly on Philia's lap, but in his heart, he was thinking about whether anything unusual had happened recently.

In the past, whenever Roman's body showed symptoms of discomfort, it often meant that something related to magic had occurred, and his body would also undergo major changes.

Roman thought to himself: "Magic... come to think of it, Daenerys's three dragons should have hatched by now. Next is going to Slaver's Bay to get the Unsullied for free. However, without Barristan to escort and protect her, can Daenerys really rule those regions well?"

However, Roman did not care much about Daenerys's situation; in Martin's writing, Daenerys had been on a winning streak since her three hatchlings were born.

Except for her own age being too young to handle complex government affairs, leading to administrative errors, Daenerys had almost never encountered any major crises.

After pondering for a while, Roman decided not to bother thinking about it; here he was, overthinking it, and maybe in a few years, Daenerys would fly right into his face riding a dragon.

On one side was the Mother of Dragons, and on the other was Roman, this humanoid magic dragon; neither side would be convinced by the other, and their future meeting would likely not be very friendly.

Roman understood the need to prepare for the future; there was the Night King Beyond the Wall, Daenerys in the East, and "Crow's Eye" Euron in the Iron Islands to the West—none of them were pushovers.

Roman needed to become stronger, not just in his own strength, but the development in his territory also had to keep up.

"This Game of Thrones is really annoying to deal with. In this state, how will I face the great crisis in the future?"

"Sigh~ It's just a pity that the time I need is still too tight; after the break, the tasks will only be heavier.".
