Chapter 27 - Vampires vs Second Year

Peter saw the all out fight happening in front of him. Quinn was surrounded on all sides, Layla was using her telekinesis to drop arrows on a second year, and a newcomer with pale skin and bright red eyes was slamming the second years onto the ground. Peter didn't want to fight any of them since he knew he'd be useless in a fight.

Instead, he decided to run away from the commotion, there was something else he could do. The second years guarding the side were now focused on watching those fighting against them, giving him ample opportunity to escape. As he left, Layla noticed him disappearing into the crowd.

'Is he really just going to leave us here?' Layla thought, but as she did, a large rock was thrown at her face, and hit her squarely in the nose. She stumbled back, and focused on those in front of her instead.

Quinn, meanwhile, was struggling as he was getting attacked and hit by all sides. Mono's whip and the level 4's earth ability hurt him badly. All Quinn could do was try to fight through the pain as he needed to unlock Erin's restraints.

Using a small handful of mud, Quinn shaped it into a strange looking key, and inserted it inside of the chain's lock. Even though it wasn't the right shape, Quinn kept changing the mud key to do some rudimentary lock picking.

Right as he was about to unlock the chains, another hit of Mono's whip lashed at him, and he fell to the floor again. His lashes were sharp, causing him to bleed. Erin stared intensely at the blood in front of her, but she had to control herself. Instead she used that urge to force herself to pull herself from the chains even more. The metal began to creak from her strength.

"Why are you even trying so hard to free her? Are you in love with her?" Mono sarcastically remarked, then spoke in a low voice, "You think she'll appreciate and reward you? She's not even a high level anymore."

Mono raised his whip, his form shadowing over Quinn's body. He raised his arms up in an attempt to minimize his damage, even though he knew it was fruitless.

"I'm sorry," Quinn whispered. Even now, he wasn't strong enough to save one person.

He closed his eyes, bracing for the pain. An experience he was unfortunately used to. However, instead of being hit, he heard Mono grunt and make confused sounds. Opening his eyes, he saw his roommate, Fex, with string wrapped around the second year's arm holding the whip.

Mono dropped his whip onto his free hand, he then flung it at the string, causing it to break. Quite a few people in the crowd were distracted by seeing the second year getting caught off guard.

"Hmm… let's see how you'll work…" Fex said, sticking his tongue out a little to focus.

He shot several strings out towards Mono's arms, and Mono tried to throw out his whip to block the attacks, but despite his best attempt to predict his movements, Fex was just faster. They embedded into his arms, and suddenly, Mono wasn't able to control his own movements.

"To make things easier for both of us, I recommend you don't fight back," Fex smirked as he controlled Mono to lash his whip out against the second year near Quinn and Erin. Flinging his whip around a few times, the second year shrank in fear, and ran into the crowd, not wanting to fight their leader.

Realizing that Fex was using his beast weapon against his own people, Mono dropped his weapon. However, Fex quickly spun him around with his string, causing him to fall to the floor.

Quinn was dumbfounded by Fex's quick movements. He was faster than what he could perceive, and it all happened within a few seconds.

'Is this the power of a fully realized vampire?' Quinn thought.

"Oh, hey Quinn. Didn't see you there," Fex tilted his head up in a nod.

Despite attacking Mono, it seemed like Fex didn't do it for Quinn. Fex's true motives remained a mystery to him.

Quinn got up from the ground, and ran over to Erin's restraints. He finished picking the locks, and freed Erin.

"I was going to break myself out," Erin mumbled as she felt around her wrists.

"Don't make a fool out of us, girl," Fex whispered.

A second year student ran over to Mono and used his water ability to slice through the strings. He quickly got up and dusted himself off.

Seeing that Mono was coming back for seconds, Fex handed a flask over to Erin.

"Drink this, you're going to need it."

Erin looked at it. On the side of the silver metal flask, there was a skull that had two sharp fangs on the upper jaw was displayed. She then used her inspect skill on it.

[Blood Flask]

[A device made to store blood indefinitely]

After opening it, and smelling that it was indeed blood, Erin drank it.

The wounds on Erin's body began to heal, but not too much as to garner suspicion.

"I have to admit, I didn't expect you to be as fast as you are. It's the one weakness that I just can't help with my ability," Mono stated, then held his hand out to the side, "I don't know how you do it, but…"

In Mono's open hand, something began to form. There was a spark of bright white that flashed, creating another whip, but there was something different about it.

The whip felt alive, constantly moving around despite Mono holding it still. A light hum emanated from the weapon, indicating its power.

"Let me show you the difference between first years and second years."

"A soul weapon, huh?" Erin commented, "About time you showed it, too."

Preparing himself, Quinn controlled the small amount of mud into a gauntlet. It was more like a glove than an actual weapon, but it was something. Fex and Erin closely watched the whip, eyeing its movements.

Mono then threw out the whip, it moved at lightning speed, even faster than Fex thought was possible. The trio tried their best to dodge, Fex managing to avoid the hit narrowly, and Erin only getting scratched by it.

Quinn, however, was too slow. He was only a human compared to Erin and Fex, and had sustained several injuries from earlier. His arm got caught by the whip, and was slammed down to the ground.

"Quinn!" Erin called out, concern lacing her voice.

Mono raised his arm up high, a wide sadistic smile as he was about to deal a demolishing hit to Quinn.

But Quinn wasn't going to go down easy.

Erin saw the scene play out in front of her almost in slow motion. Stretching his hand out, Quinn's mud spread across the ground, and wrapped around Mono's foot.

She sprinted to Mono, and Fex threw out his string at him. The whip flung downwards, but by controlling the mud around Mono's foot, he lost his balance, and fell to his knees.

The whip lashed to the side of Quinn, breaking apart both the wooden flooring, and landing against his left arm. He gritted his teeth in pain, but if it had hit him at full strength, he would've been even more in pain.

Erin tackled Mono, and the soul weapon whip was caught wriggling around in Fex's strings. She glared down at Mono and held her fist up, ready to punch him when—

The doors to the assembly hall swung wide open, and standing in front of Peter was a tall silver-haired woman.

"I command everyone to halt this instant," the silver haired woman asserted, "If anyone does not obey this command, prepare to be punished."
