Just a few minutes later, Shawn was sitting next to his mother on their couch and watching TV. Both of them were enjoying each other's company in a warm and happy way that would normally make any other parent proud of the relationship they had with their child.
"So, honey, how's college been for you these days?" Caroline asked, wanting to know how her son was doing. "I haven't had a chance to really talk to you in a while."
"Everything's great. I've managed to finish most of my assignments. Although there are a few remaining that I'm going to complete after the holiday is over," Shawn explained in response.

"Yeah, I'll do my best! But enough about me. How's business? Anything new that I should know about?"
Caroline shook her head lightly at the mention of business and gave out a sigh. "Things aren't very good, but they aren't that bad either. I mean, we still have clients and whatnot, which is enough for us to maintain the flow of our business.
But as you probably know already, it's not enough to earn us lots of money and pay for all the family expenses like before. That's why we can't offer you as much money as we used to do before. We're sorry for that, honey."
Hearing her words, Shawn looked at his mother with a smile and then took hold of one of her hands to give her a warm squeeze.
"It's fine, Mom. You know me; as long as everyone's happy and healthy, I'm happy too. Besides, I'm just a student, so I don't need much money. Really! Don't worry about it too much."
"I know, honey, and I really appreciate your understanding." Caroline returned his smile before leaning over to give Shawn a soft kiss on his lips. It was just a simple peck, but it had the power to make both their hearts skip a beat.
It was really too sweet that Shawn couldn't help but pull his mother into an embrace once more. However, just as the two of them were about to get all heated up again, there was the sound of unlocking door.
This meant that someone had just come home, probably Donald.

"Hello to you too, Dad," Shawn greeted back with a smile of his own. "I didn't think much of it since I figured I could just take the cab instead. But in any case, I hope you're doing well~"
"Of course! I'm perfectly fine and dandy!" Donald answered. His words were filled with enthusiasm. However, when his gaze moved on to Caroline, he couldn't help but add more. "Though, it seems like your mother's been missing you quite a lot too! Look! She can't even let go of you!"
"Oh, hush, darling. I'm just enjoying myself spending time with my baby boy after being separated from him for so long. You don't understand how much I missed him. It felt like an eternity since he last came home for the holidays~"
"Hahaha! Sure, sure. Whatever you say, love~" Donald chuckled and shook his head playfully. But it was obvious from his reaction that he was happy for the two of them.
After this, the family spent some time talking about various things that happened to them during the time that they were away from each other, which wasn't a lot since it was only a few months.
During their conversation, Shawn couldn't help but steal glances at his beautiful mother.

"Huh?" Caroline looked at her husband in confusion. "I thought there weren't going to be any meetings today?"
"Me too, but just before I got here, I received a call from our client, Mrs. Watson. She suddenly made an appointment for the contract renewal at such a short notice. And you know her better than me. That's why I wanted to bring you along to help with the negotiations. I hope you don't mind."
Donald explained the situation briefly without even breathing in between, and even though it was too sudden for Caroline, she didn't refuse it either. She had a professional image that she had to maintain, after all.
After briefly taking care of her hair and clothes and wearing the necessary accessories to look presentable enough, Caroline walked out of the room, ready to go out with her husband.
"Sorry to cut the time short. But we'll come back soon and talk more. Hope you'll understand, Son." Donald smiled at Shawn, who was still sitting on the couch and watching TV.
"It's fine. I don't mind. Besides, I think I'll take a nap too. It was a long ride earlier after all." Shawn waved his hand without any care. However, he then shifted his gaze towards his mother and smiled. "See you later, Mom."
"Of course! See you later, darling! Love you!"
Caroline blew him a kiss before heading out with her husband.
However, while closing the door, she paused and turned around to wink at her son. She did it so subtly that Donald was too busy thinking about something else to notice it.
