Chapter 13: The Return to the Ground

London – The Millennium Bridge – 02:00 PM.

The grey London sky hangs low over the Thames, but JAE-WON doesn't feel the chill. He's leaning against the railing, watching the tourists pass by, but his mind is 5,000 miles away.

For the first time in his life, the freedom of being in a foreign city feels like a burden. He keeps replaying the conversation in the cafe—the way HYUNA looked when she laughed, the way she leaned into his arms and let out years of held-back pain.

"She wants a safe place," he thinks, his eyes tracing the horizon. "And I... I've spent my whole life in the air, never wanting to land. But looking at her, I think I finally want a home. She could be that home. And I could be the one who finally stays."

He realizes it clearly now: Hyuna isn't just a "junior" or a "new friend." She is exactly his type—soft, resilient, and in need of the kind of loyalty he has always saved only for Haeyoung. But this is different. This isn't a "Priority" obligation. It's a choice.

Incheon Airport – The Design Hub.

HYUNA is staring at a blueprint, but the lines are blurring. Despite her beautiful night with Jae-won, her heart is an old, stubborn thing. Every time JUNGHAN walks past, her breath catches.

"Why can't I stop?" she scolds herself, biting her lip. "He didn't even remember my birthday. He gave her the roses. My whole childhood, my whole teenage life... it's all wrapped around him. How do I just cut the thread?"

Across the room, JUNGHAN is a storm cloud in a designer suit. He is terrifyingly quiet today. No witty remarks, no "Good morning," just a cold, sharp efficiency.

Sung-min: (Whispering to a junior) "Don't even breathe loudly. The Director is in 'Atomic Mode.' One wrong font choice and we're all dead."

Junghan's red eyes from the morning haven't faded; they've just turned into a hard, icy glare. He's working like a man trying to outrun his own shadow, but every time he looks at the empty Pilot Briefing room, his jaw tightens.

Busan – Gimhae Airport.

HAEYOUNG is pacing the terminal lounge. Her return flight to Seoul is boarding soon, but she can't settle. Her mind is a battlefield.

"Why does it hurt?" she demands of herself, staring at her reflection in a glass window. "He's your best friend. Your only friend. You've always known he would find someone. So why did seeing him hold her make you feel like you were falling without a parachute?"

She tries to force the feeling down. She tries to tell herself she doesn't like him that much—that it's just the shock of the "Priority" being broken. But the ache in her chest says otherwise. She has spent ten years being his #1, and she isn't ready to be #2.

Ground Crew: "Captain Hong, the pre-flight check is complete. We're ready for the Seoul return."

Haeyoung nods, her face snapping back into its professional mask. "Let's go. I want to be back on the ground in Seoul as fast as possible."

The High Skies – Converging Paths.

Two planes are currently piercing through the clouds, both headed for the same destination.

In one, JAE-WON sits in the cockpit, his hands steady on the controls but his heart racing toward the girl he left behind in the rain. He's bringing back more than just a flight log; he's bringing back an answer.

In the other, HAEYOUNG is flying through turbulence, her eyes fixed on the navigation screen. She's flying back to protect what's hers, or perhaps, to finally face the truth she's been hiding behind her panic pills.

Down on the ground, HYUNA and JUNGHAN wait—one for a love that's fading, and one for a woman who makes him feel like a driver.

[FADE OUT]
