The brown wolf's legs gave out.
He hit the ground hard, hands clasped together.
"Please!" Tears ran down his face, mixing with snot. "Please, My Lord! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! It won't happen again! Please don't kill me!"
His whole body shook.
"I have a mate, I have cubs, please—"
The words dissolved into sobbing.
Velryn watched him cry.
Ten seconds.
Twenty.
Then his expression shifted.
The smile widened.
Reached his eyes this time.
"Well OBVIOUSLY you'll do better!" He bounced on his toes. "You just watched me kill your companion for incompetence! Excellent motivator, don't you think?"
The crying guard stared at him.
Mouth open.
Still sobbing but confused now.
"Get UP!" Velryn's tone was bright. Cheerful. "Stop crying! You're embarrassing yourself! This is YOUR fault, not mine! If you'd done your job, I wouldn't have had to kill anyone!"
He pointed at the corpse with one blood-covered claw.
