"The vampire's corpse was delivered to Orion last night," Elain heard her uncle say during breakfast.
The previous evening, she had stayed for dinner at the Harlowes' manor and ended up breaking her curfew for the first time. By the time she returned home, Lady Noreen had already sent word to Cynthia explaining the situation.
Her aunt immediately checked on her upon seeing the wound and even summoned a physician to ensure it had been properly treated. Cynthia also said she'd call one of the healers in town to examine her first thing the next morning.
Physicians were ordinary people who practiced medicine, while healers who possessed healing magic were few and not always accessible.
Afterward, Cynthia reminded her firmly that, as much as possible, she should avoid Captain Keith and the Harlowes.
"I'm glad he's dead," Rory muttered now, stabbing at her breakfast with irritation. "Though he should have been tortured first for what he did to Elain."
