Elain slipped away to the bathroom, hoping to escape the suffocating crowd on the dance floor.
She had been enjoying herself well enough simply watching the revelry before Rafelius arrived, only for him to ruin it all.
When she entered the bathroom, it was empty. She shut the door behind her and walked toward the mirrors, but the moment she stopped before them, she jolted in shock at the sudden awareness of another presence.
Rafelius was standing by the door.
"This is the ladies' bathroom!" she exclaimed, clutching at her chest.
"You didn't even let our first dance finish." His eyes narrowed at her as though he intended to add the offense to a growing list of grievances against her.
First dance? Was he implying he was expecting there would be next? Elain almost wanted to laugh.
