Chapter 41 - One of the Hidden Ones

For a second, Elain thought the figure shrouded in shadows was Hellal, the God of the Underworld, who had come to claim her.

But the moment the shadows vanished, she realized it was only a person.

Not that he was any less terrifying than Hellal, though.

Rafelius had pulled her onto one of the ballroom's balconies, where frosted glass doors separated them from the crowd inside the mansion. His gaze swept over her slowly, a dark glint flickering in his eyes before they settled on hers.

"That outfit complements your green eyes," he remarked.

"Thank you," she replied quietly as she pulled her wrist from his grasp.

He released her without resistance, but made no effort to step away, as if perfectly comfortable with the little distance be tween them. Elain was not.

Though she disliked the way Rafelius had dragged her away without warning, relief still washed over her at finally seeing him after hours of waiting.
