Chapter 50 - Chapter 51 – Two Truths

The room fell into complete silence.

Luna stood frozen between them, her heartbeat pounding so hard it almost hurt. On one side was Ethan—the man who had lied to her, watched her, protected her, and somehow still made her feel safe.

And on the other side—

Herself.

Or at least, someone who looked exactly like her.

The woman near the doorway tilted her head slightly, studying Luna's expression with calm amusement.

"You're overwhelmed," she said softly. "That's normal."

Luna swallowed hard. "Who are you?"

The woman smiled faintly.

"You already know the answer."

"No," Luna whispered immediately. "No, I don't."

Because if she accepted it—

Everything changed.

The woman's expression softened just slightly, though something cold still remained beneath it.

"My name is Lyra."

The name hit Luna strangely.

Familiar.

Like hearing something she had forgotten years ago.

Ethan's jaw tightened instantly. "Don't."

Lyra ignored him completely.

"You created me," she continued calmly. "Or maybe… we created each other."

Luna shook her head weakly. "That doesn't make sense."

"It will."

Outside the hidden room, footsteps echoed again through the archive corridors. Closer this time. Armed voices shouted orders somewhere nearby.

But inside the room—

The real danger wasn't outside anymore.

It was the truth.

Lyra took a slow step forward. Ethan immediately moved in front of Luna again.

"Stay where you are."

Lyra laughed quietly. "Still acting protective."

Ethan's expression darkened. "I'm serious."

"So am I."

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Luna could feel it now.

History.

Tension.

Hatred.

Whatever existed between Ethan and Lyra—it ran deep.

Her gaze moved between them nervously. "You two know each other."

Neither answered immediately.

And that silence gave her the answer anyway.

Lyra finally spoke first. "He knows me better than anyone."

Ethan's voice turned cold. "Stop talking."

"Why?" Lyra asked lightly. "Afraid she'll remember the parts you buried?"

Luna's head started hurting again.

Fragments flashed violently.

Rain.

A gunshot.

Ethan shouting her name.

And Lyra—

Standing in front of him with blood on her hands.

Luna gasped sharply.

Ethan turned immediately. "What did you see?"

But before she could answer, Lyra spoke softly.

"He remembers that night differently than I do."

Luna looked at her slowly. "What happened?"

Lyra's eyes darkened slightly.

"The organization wanted the drive back. Ethan was ordered to bring you in."

"That's not true," Ethan said instantly.

Lyra smiled coldly. "See? Two truths already."

Luna's chest tightened painfully.

"Ethan?"

His eyes met hers immediately.

"I was ordered to find you," he admitted. "But I never planned to hand you over."

"You hesitated," Lyra corrected sharply. "And hesitation gets people killed."

The tension in the room became suffocating.

Luna pressed a hand against her chest, trying to steady her breathing.

"I don't understand any of this…"

Lyra's expression softened slightly at those words.

"You weren't supposed to."

For the first time, Luna noticed something unexpected in her eyes.

Not cruelty.

Sadness.

Deep, exhausted sadness.

"You were breaking apart back then," Lyra said quietly. "The pressure, the fear, the memories… it was destroying you."

Another fragment hit.

Luna curled against a wall years ago, shaking violently while voices screamed around her.

"I can't do this anymore…"

Then another voice.

Her own voice.

Colder.

Stronger.

"Then let me."

Luna stumbled backward.

Ethan caught her instantly before she fell.

"Careful."

His hand on her arm felt warm.

Steady.

Real.

And somehow that made everything worse.

Because now she didn't know what was real anymore.

Lyra watched them silently for a moment before speaking again.

"You loved him," she said to Luna.

The words shattered the air instantly.

Ethan went still.

Luna stopped breathing.

"But I didn't trust him," Lyra continued softly. "And eventually… neither did you."

Ethan's voice hardened immediately. "That's not what happened."

"Really?" Lyra asked. "Then tell her why she ran that night."

Silence.

Luna looked at Ethan desperately. "Tell me."

His jaw tightened.

Then finally—

"Because someone inside the organization leaked information about you."

Lyra crossed her arms slowly. "And?"

Ethan's eyes darkened.

"…And I was blamed for it."

Luna frowned slightly.

"What does that mean?"

"It means," Lyra answered before Ethan could, "they thought he betrayed them for you."

The room fell silent again.

Luna looked at Ethan differently now.

"You risked everything?"

He laughed softly once.

Tired.

Broken.

"You were more important than the job."

That answer hit too hard.

Because no matter how angry she was—

Part of her still believed him completely.

Lyra noticed the look on Luna's face instantly.

And something unreadable flickered in her expression.

"You still trust him," she murmured.

"I don't know what I feel," Luna admitted honestly.

"That's dangerous."

"Why?"

Lyra's gaze slowly shifted toward Ethan.

"Because he'd destroy himself for you."

Ethan didn't deny it.

And somehow—

That scared Luna more than if he had.

Before anyone could speak again, loud footsteps thundered outside the archive room.

Then gunfire exploded through the corridor.

Everyone reacted instantly.

Ethan grabbed Luna's wrist. "We move now."

But Lyra stayed where she was.

Calm.

Unmoving.

Luna looked at her in confusion. "Aren't you coming?"

Lyra smiled faintly.

"No."

"What?"

"They're not here for you anymore," Lyra said quietly.

Her eyes shifted toward Ethan.

"They're here for him."

Silence crashed into the room.

Ethan's expression changed immediately.

For the first time—

Real alarm appeared in his eyes.

Then a voice echoed through the hallway outside.

Cold.

Commanding.

"Ethan Vale."

Luna felt the blood drain from her face.

Because she recognized that voice too.

Adrian.

And he didn't sound alone.
