Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – The Second Presence

The night grew deeper.

Outside, Gaya had gone silent. The distant sounds of rituals, bells, and murmured prayers had faded into nothingness.

But inside the old house—

Something had changed.

---

Rahul stood alone in the center of the room.

The old man had stepped outside without saying much after the last lesson.

"Practice," was all he had said.

And Rahul understood.

This wasn't something that could be mastered by listening.

Only by doing.

---

The room was dimly lit.

A single oil lamp flickered near the wall, casting long shadows that moved with every shift of the flame.

Rahul closed his eyes.

Again.

---

Darkness greeted him instantly.

But unlike before—

This darkness was not empty.

---

It was waiting.

---

Rahul took a slow breath.

He didn't rush.

Didn't force anything.

---

He let his awareness sink inward.

Deeper.

---

And then—

He felt it.

---

That energy.

---

Flowing through his body.

Moving like a living river.

---

But this time—

He didn't just observe.

---

He listened.

---

Not with his ears.

But with his existence.

---

The energy responded.

---

It slowed.

---

As if it recognized his intent.

---

Rahul focused.

---

"Stop."

---

The energy resisted.

But only slightly.

---

Then—

It stopped.

---

Complete stillness.

---

Rahul opened his eyes.

A faint glow surrounded him.

Controlled.

Balanced.

---

"…Good," he whispered.

---

But then—

Something shifted.

---

The stillness broke.

---

Not violently.

Not chaotically.

---

But deliberately.

---

The energy moved again.

---

Not like before.

Not wild.

Not uncontrolled.

---

It moved…

On its own.

---

Rahul's eyes narrowed.

"…What?"

---

He didn't command it.

He didn't guide it.

---

Yet—

It moved.

---

Slowly.

---

Circling inside him.

---

Watching.

---

Rahul's breathing slowed.

---

This wasn't normal.

---

The old man had said—

The power was part of him.

---

Then why…

Did it feel like something else was controlling it?

---

"Show yourself," Rahul said quietly.

---

Silence.

---

The energy stopped.

---

Then—

Suddenly—

---

Everything went dark again.

---

Rahul's vision collapsed inward.

---

And once again—

He was pulled into that space.

---

The void.

---

Endless darkness.

---

But this time—

Something was different.

---

Last time—

There were three.

---

Now—

There were only two.

---

Rahul's eyes widened slightly.

"…Where's the third one?"

---

The two shadows stood far away.

Silent.

Watching.

---

But their presence felt… weaker.

---

Incomplete.

---

Then—

A new presence appeared.

---

Not far.

Not close.

---

But everywhere.

---

A voice echoed.

---

Different from the others.

---

Calm.

Deep.

Controlled.

---

"You noticed."

---

Rahul turned instantly.

---

"…Who are you?"

---

Silence.

---

Then—

The darkness shifted.

---

A figure began to form.

---

Unlike the shadows—

This one had shape.

---

A human-like silhouette.

---

But darker.

Sharper.

More defined.

---

Its eyes glowed faintly.

---

And its presence…

Was overwhelming.

---

Rahul felt pressure.

Not physical.

But mental.

---

"…You're not one of them," Rahul said.

---

The figure tilted its head slightly.

---

"No."

---

A pause.

---

"I am what remains… after them."

---

Rahul frowned.

---

"That doesn't make sense."

---

The figure stepped closer.

---

"You absorbed their essence."

---

A pause.

---

"But not all of it merged."

---

---

Silence.

---

Rahul's mind processed that.

---

"…So you're…"

---

The figure completed his thought.

---

"A fragment."

---

A pause.

---

"Of something greater."

---

---

Rahul's eyes narrowed.

---

"…Are you inside me?"

---

The figure smiled faintly.

---

"I am you."

---

---

Those words…

Echoed deeply.

---

Rahul's expression hardened.

---

"No."

---

A pause.

---

"I don't have anything like you inside me."

---

---

The figure didn't argue.

---

Instead—

It stepped closer.

---

And suddenly—

---

Rahul felt it.

---

A shift.

---

His thoughts…

Slowed.

---

His control…

Weakened.

---

---

"You reject what you don't understand," the figure said calmly.

---

---

Rahul clenched his fists.

---

"I don't reject it."

---

A pause.

---

"I control it."

---

---

The figure laughed softly.

---

"Control?"

---

---

In the next moment—

The darkness around them exploded.

---

Rahul was forced to his knees.

---

Pressure crushed him from all sides.

---

"You think you're in control?"

---

---

Rahul struggled.

---

But this wasn't like before.

---

This wasn't raw power.

---

This was something else.

---

Something deeper.

---

---

"You've only touched the surface," the figure continued.

---

---

Rahul gritted his teeth.

---

"…Then show me."

---

---

Silence.

---

Then—

The pressure vanished.

---

Instantly.

---

Rahul stood up.

---

Breathing heavily.

---

---

The figure looked at him.

---

"You want power."

---

A pause.

---

"I can give it to you."

---

---

Rahul didn't hesitate.

---

"I already have it."

---

---

The figure smiled again.

---

"No."

---

A pause.

---

"You have access."

---

---

Those words—

Changed everything.

---

Rahul's eyes sharpened.

---

"…Explain."

---

---

The figure raised its hand.

---

Dark energy gathered.

---

But unlike Rahul's—

This energy was different.

---

Denser.

---

Sharper.

---

More dangerous.

"This…

The figure spoke calmly.

"…is true control."

Before Rahul could react—

The energy shot forward.l

And struck him.

BOOM

Rahul was thrown back.

Pain exploded through his body.

He stood up again.

But this time—

He was serious.

Very serious.

"…Do it again."

The figure smiled.

"As you wish."

The training began.

Not like before.

Not slow.

Not controlled.

Brutal.

Relentless.

Rahul attacked.

The figure countered.

Effortlessly.

Every move Rahul made—

Was predicted.

Every attack—

Blocked.

Every attempt—

Failed.

Minutes turned into what felt like hours.

Rahul's body took hit after hit

But he didn't stop

Didn't retreat

Because now—

He understood.

This wasn't an enemy

This was a test.

"You rely too much on force," the figure said.

Rahul attacked again.

Faster.

Stronger.

Still—

Not enough.

"You hesitate," the figure continued.

Rahul growled.

"I don't hesitate."

"Then why do you hold back?"

That question—

Hit deeper than any attack.

Rahul froze for a moment.

"…Because I don't need to go all out."

The figure stepped closer.

"Wrong."

In the next second—

It moved.

Faster than anything Rahul had seen.

And struck him directly in the chest.

BOOM

Rahul collapsed

"You hold back…"

The figure's voice echoed

"…because you're afraid."

Silence.

Rahul slowly stood up

His breathing heavy

His body shaking slightly.

"…Afraid?"

His eyes darkened.

"I'm not afraid of anything."

The figure looked at him.

Then said—

"Then prove it."

Suddenly—

Everything changed.

The space around them distorted.

Images appeared.

Memories.

His parents

Dead.

His ex-girlfriend.

Dying.

The people he controlled.

The people he killed.

All of it.

Rahul froze.

"You run from this," the figure said.

"I don't.

Rahul's voice was low

Cold.

"Then accept it."

Silence

Rahul looked at everything.

Didn't turn away

Didn't close his eyes. The images stopped.

The darkness returned

The figure looked at him

And for the first time—

It nodded.

"Good."

Rahul stood still.

"…What now?"

The figure replied—

"Now…"

A pause.

"You begin."

Suddenly—

Everything shattered again.

Rahul's eyes snapped open.

He was back.

Inside the House

His body was covered in sweat.

His breathing heavy.

The old man stood in front of him.

Watching.

"…You went deeper," he said.

Rahul didn't respond immediately.

"…There's something else inside me."

The old man nodded

"I know."

Rahul looked at him.

"…You knew?"

The old man smiled faintly

"Yes."

Silence.

"…And you didn't tell me?"

The old man replied calmly—

"You weren't ready.

Rahul exhaled slowly.

"…I am now."

The old man's expression turned serious.

"Are you?"

A pause.

"Because what you just faced…"

"…is not power."

"It is will.

"And if you lose to it…"

"You won't come back."

Silence.

Rahul looked down at his hands.

Then slowly clenched them.

"…Then I won't lose."

The old man watched him carefully.

And for the first time—

He saw it.

Not just power.

Not just control

But something far more dangerous.

Acceptance.

And once a person accepts darkness…

They stop fearing it.

And when fear disappears

Limits break.

The training was no longer about co

It had become something else

Something irreversible.
