In the Conomi Islands, at Arlong Park in the East Blue, two men were about to clash. On one side, Arlong "of the Saw," a man with a 20-million-berry bounty who once made a name for himself in the Grand Line.
On the other hand, "Straw Hat" Luffy, a rookie who had been taking down the biggest names in the East Blue.
"So what? Don't brag about that. I can break stones without biting them, you know."
"Exactly. Resting on your laurels regarding physical ability isn't a great look, didn't I tell you that?"
A new voice cut through the tension. Sitting on the roof of the compound was a massive man wearing a black long coat over golden armor. He leaped down, landing between the two combatants.
"Sorry to interrupt the fight, but could you let me handle this one?" he asked Luffy.
"Hey... did he just say 'Krieg'?" "No mistake! That golden armor! It's the 'Pirate Eater'! Why is a Grand Line big shot here in the East Blue?!" The bounty hunter duo, Yosaku and Johnny, were trembling.
"Who are you? This guy made my navigator cry, so I'm the one who's gonna kick his ass! Stay out of it!" Luffy shouted.
"Krieg! Why the hell are you here?!" Arlong roared, looking ready to kill.
"Long time no see, Arlong. Why am I here? A certain person asked me to tie you up and bring you back home."
"Hah! I'll kill you before you even try!"
"Wait, Arlong. You have a guest first. Why don't you finish with him?" Krieg gestured to Luffy.
"That's right! I'm the one who's gonna send you flying!" Luffy yelled.
"Fine! You rubber brat! Krieg, stay right there! You're next after I finish this pest!"
As the battle resumed, Krieg stepped back toward the gallery. Nami approached him, eyes narrowed. "Who are you? Do you know Arlong?"
"In a way... we're practically family. Say, little lady, I just got here. Can you tell me what's been going on?"
Nami told him everything—the eight years of tyranny, the stolen money, the tears, and Luffy's arrival. When she finished, the giant man bowed his head. He looked small for a moment, weighed down by apology.
"I'm sorry. On behalf of Arlong... please accept my apologies."
"Nami-san! Don't just talk to him!" Yosaku screamed, finally finding his voice. "That's 'Demon' Krieg! Leader of the Kaiwentai! He's a legendary bounty hunter from the Grand Line with a 99-million-berry bounty! He doesn't call himself a pirate, but the Government treats him like a calamity!"
The battle between Luffy and Arlong reached its climax. As Arlong Park crumbled under the weight of a massive Gomu Gomu no Ono, Arlong was finally defeated.
"I lost, huh?" Krieg sighed as Luffy emerged from the wreckage.
"You wanna fight too?" Luffy asked, posing despite his wounds.
"No. I'm just here to take him back. I didn't think you could actually beat him, even if he has gotten soft over the last eight years."
"I'm Luffy! The man who's gonna be King of the Pirates!"
"King of the Pirates? Big words. Then get yourself to the Grand Line quickly. The world is getting crowded with people chasing that dream. But let me give you a piece of advice... You rely too much on your rubber body. You don't defend."
"What?"
"Fish-Man Kenpo: Hairou-ken!" (Wave-Greeting Fist)
Krieg blurred, appearing behind Luffy and striking both sides of his ribs with the edges of his palms.
"GAH! That... that hurt! Why did that hurt?!"
"Just remember, there are ways to nullify Devil Fruits. Practice your defense."
With that, Krieg slung the unconscious Arlong over his shoulder and used Geppo to kick the air, flying back toward his ship.
Two Years Later: Fish-Man Island
Time passed. Two years after the events in the East Blue, the Gyoncorde Plaza on Fish-Man Island was in chaos. Hordy Jones and his 100,000-strong New Fish-Man Pirates stood ready to execute the Royal Family.
Madam Shyarly stood before Hordy, defiant. "My prophecy said a man would destroy this island... and that man is 'Straw Hat' Luffy!"
Hordy laughed and fired a high-speed water drop—Uchimizu—at her. But before it could pierce her, a massive golden shield intercepted the blast.
"Now, now, Hordy... who gave you permission to lay a hand on my woman?"
Krieg stood there, as tall as the massive Shyarly herself, his golden armor gleaming.
"Krieg! You came back!" Shyarly whispered.
"You human hypocrite!" Hordy spat. "You talk about being a bridge between races? Pathetic!"
"I never said anything that noble," Krieg shrugged. "I just want a world where the woman I love is safe."
The battle erupted. Arlong, who had been traveling with Krieg as his "deputy" after being forced to reform, stood by his side. "I hate humans, Krieg. But I hate what Hordy's doing more. He killed the Queen. He's a disgrace to our race."
The "prophecy" of the island's destruction seemed to come true as the giant ship Noah began to fall from the sky. While Luffy and Arlong raced to the top to stop Hordy and the falling ship, Krieg stayed below to handle the masses.
"Out of the way!" Krieg roared, grabbing the massive chains of the Noah and pulling with everything he had alongside the citizens. "HNNNNGH!!"
The giant Wadatsumi, empowered by Energy Steroids, tried to interfere. "I'm a pufferfish fish-man! I'll crush you all!" He inflated to a mountain-like size.
"Is that all?" Krieg looked up, unfazed. "I've seen bigger. Specifically, a mountain-sized guy in Blackbeard's crew. You're just a balloon."
"HOW DARE YOU!!"
"Listen up, big guy. Fish-Man Karate controls water. My Fish-Man Kenpo controls the vibrations in the air. The 'waves' of the world."
Krieg pressed both palms against Wadatsumi's massive belly.
"Fish-Man Kenpo Secret Technique: Shinto Suikyo Soshu!" (Penetrating Water-Mirror Twin Palms)
A shockwave ripped through Wadatsumi's internal organs. Since he was filled with air, the vibration traveled perfectly through him, rupturing everything.
"BUFOOOO!!" Wadatsumi deflated like a punctured tire.
"And for the finish... I've got a lady waiting. Fish-Man Kenpo Ougi: Kaio Shoshiki! Tsuutenpou!!" (Sea King Style: Heaven-Piercing Cannon)
Krieg delivered a Haki-infused uppercut that sent the giant flying into the distance.
As the dust settled and Noah was stopped by the Sea Kings, Krieg walked back toward the plaza. Arlong and Luffy were arguing in the distance, but Krieg only had eyes for the mermaid waiting for him.
Shyarly wrapped her tail around him and pulled him into a hug. "You're late."
"I told you," Krieg smiled, kissing her cheek. "As long as I'm breathing, I'm coming home to you."
