These words were clear and powerful, stating a direct position. It wasn't a polite consolation, but a clear declaration of alliance. Tony looked at Artoria, the anger in his eyes gradually subsiding, replaced by a more complex and profound emotion—a touch of being understood, supported, and having someone stand unreservedly on the same front.
"Good." Tony said only one word, but the determination within it was as heavy as a thousand catties. "Then we'll build it ourselves."
He immediately threw himself back at the console, frantically pulling up blueprints for all available high-energy equipment within Stark Industries and material inventory lists. Artoria joined in, and the two began a new round of sleepless collaboration in the lab. Minerva silently adjusted the lab's life support system to ensure the air and temperature were suitable, and had little ai remotely assist with some peripheral data calculations and material supply chain inquiries.
They spent three whole days modifying equipment, writing control programs, and designing the Resonance Field Generator. Tony displayed incredible engineering talent and creativity, while Artoria provided crucial field theory models and stability algorithms that transcended current physical frameworks. Many times, when Tony's thoughts hit a dead end, Artoria could always offer a suggestion from an unexpected angle, often hitting the nail on the head.
During this period, Coulson tried to make contact several times, and even Pepper tactfully relayed S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intention to "provide unconditional assistance," but Tony firmly refused them all. He was driven by a sense of resolve, not just for the new element, but to prove to S.H.I.E.L.D. and to his father's silent legacy that the Starks didn't need charity to create the future.
Finally, everything was ready. Deep beneath Stark Tower, in the Particle Collider Laboratory that had been modified beyond recognition, the massive ring-shaped pipes hummed, emitting a faint blue glow. The central reaction chamber was surrounded by complex Resonance Field Generators and cooling systems. Tony and Artoria stood before the main console, their expressions solemn. Minerva was in the safety control room, monitoring all auxiliary systems.
"Energy injection, countdown. 10, 9, 8..." Tony personally pressed the start button.
The collider started, its low roar vibrating the ground. The Resonance Field Generator lit up, and strange, seemingly living geometric light patterns emerged and rotated around the reaction chamber. High-purity starting materials were injected, and under the guidance of powerful energy flows and a carefully tuned resonance field, they began the arduous journey of evolving into that complex structure.
Data refreshed on the main control screen like a waterfall. Temperature, pressure, energy fluctuations, atomic arrangement fit... every indicator was testing the dangerous edge. Tony and Artoria were fully focused, constantly fine-tuning parameters to combat any potential energy dissipation or structural collapse.
Time passed minute by minute, feeling exceptionally long. Sweat beaded on Tony's forehead, and Artoria's face turned somewhat pale; the continuous high-intensity mental concentration took a huge toll.
Suddenly, on the monitoring screen, the curve representing atomic structural stability surged upward, breaking through the green safety zone and heading straight for the red danger zone!
"Not good! The resonance field is starting to lose tuning! The structure is going to collapse!" Tony said urgently.
"Adjust the phases of the third and seventh generators! Inject the buffer particle stream, frequency according to the sequence I gave you!" Artoria spoke rapidly, her fingers blurring across the virtual keyboard.
Tony executed the commands without hesitation. After several heart-pounding adjustments, the dangerous curve began to tremble and drop, finally steadying with difficulty at the edge of the red zone, then... slowly, extremely slowly, it began to fall back toward the green zone.
When the curve finally settled steadily in the center of the green zone and all other indicators also stabilized within the preset ranges, a low, steady hum echoed in the main control room. It wasn't the sound of machinery running, but more like the spontaneous sound of a harmonious energy field.
Inside the observation window of the reaction chamber, the previously violent energy flows and flickering light points vanished, replaced by a soft, stable substance emitting a pale gold glow. It wasn't much, just a cluster the size of a fingertip, suspended in the center of the reaction chamber like a stellar embryo.
Success.
Tony and Artoria both let out a long sigh of relief, nearly collapsing to the floor in exhaustion. They looked at each other and smiled, both seeing fatigue, excitement, and an unspoken understanding after fighting side by side in their eyes.
"Jarvis, analyze the sample," Tony said hoarsely.
"Analyzing... Elemental structure stable. Atomic number... currently unclassifiable in the existing periodic table. Energy density is 132 times that of known palladium isotopes. Radioactive decay detection is zero. Toxicity reaction negative. Physical and chemical properties predicted to be extremely inert and stable. Preliminary naming... 'Stark Element'?"
Tony looked at the cluster of pale gold light on the screen, then at the complex model left by his father in the holographic projection beside it. His eyes were filled with complex emotions, which eventually turned into a clear sense of relief and pride.
"No, call it 'Orkey'. That's the name my father gave it," he said softly, then looked at Artoria and reached out his hand. "Thanks, Consultant. Couldn't have handled that damn resonance field without you. And thanks..." He glanced toward the safety control room. "...to your Guardian, and that 'little ai sister' for the logistical support."
Artoria took his hand and shook it firmly. "It was your father's wisdom and your determination. We just helped turn a few screws and hand over some tools."
The two left the underground lab tired but excited and returned to the top floor. Pepper had already prepared simple food and refreshing drinks. As they ate, they discussed the specific properties and application prospects of the new element. With it, not only would the energy problem of the Iron Man Armor be completely solved, but its stable and efficient characteristics also held revolutionary potential in fields like clean energy, aerospace propulsion, and even medical imaging.
Tony picked up a sandwich, took a large bite, and said indistinctly, "Now, some people won't have an excuse to use 'energy bottlenecks' and 'health risks' as talking points anymore. However..." He looked at Artoria, his gaze turning serious. "The fact that my father was a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., and their attitude toward his legacy... this isn't over. I won't let them think they can just push the Stark family around."
Artoria nodded. "You have the right to know the whole truth and the right to decide how to handle your father's legacy. If needed, I'll stand by your side."
Just then, Tony's private encrypted line rang again. This time it was a direct communication request from Nick Fury, marked as "Director - Non-Emergency."
Tony raised an eyebrow, exchanged a look with Artoria, connected the call, and turned on the video.
Fury's single eye appeared on the screen. The background seemed to be his office, and he looked a bit more casual than usual.
"Stark, Consultant Artoria," Fury said, getting straight to the point. "First, congratulations. The energy spectrum and stability coefficient data that Jarvis just 'accidentally' leaked into our monitoring network are... impressive. It seems you've indeed found your own way."
Tony snorted. "So? Are you here to 'offer help' again, or to 'express concern'?"
"I'm here to confirm a few things," Fury said in a flat tone. "First, the detailed information files regarding Howard Stark being a co-founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. have been sent to your private server. This includes copies of the agreements he signed, meeting minutes, and his authorization to voluntarily leave part of his wartime research results in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody. You have the right to know the full history."
Tony was stunned for a moment, his expression complex. He hadn't expected Fury to be so straightforward this time.
"Second," Fury continued, his single eye turning to Artoria, "Consultant Artoria, your previous research report on cross-dimensional energy fields and material stability, combined with your successful synthesis of the new element, is considered by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s science division to have extremely high reference value. We would like to invite you to participate in a long-term, low-intensity theoretical discussion project as a consultant, to share some ideas that don't involve core secrets. Of course, you have the absolute right to refuse."
This was more like an academic invitation than a mission or a demand.
"Third," Fury looked back at Tony, his tone becoming slightly more serious, "the birth of a new element means new possibilities, but also new attention. It's clean and useful, but it will also make many people lose sleep, or... develop ideas they shouldn't have. Stark Industries needs to prepare corresponding security upgrades and emergency plans. S.H.I.E.L.D. can provide risk assessments and defensive suggestions, but we will not interfere in your internal affairs. This is based on our obligations to consultants and partners."
This time, Fury's words were less calculating and more like a professional notification and a reminder based on mutual interests. It seemed like another way to make amends for Coulson's previous calculating "cooperation proposal," or rather, to draw a clearer line—S.H.I.E.L.D. could provide information and risk warnings but would no longer try to intervene in Stark's core affairs as a "helper" or "controller."
Tony was silent for a few seconds, seemingly digesting the meaning behind Fury's shift in attitude. Finally, he spoke slowly, "I'll look at the files. As for the theoretical discussion, that's up to Artoria's own wishes. Regarding security... Stark Industries can handle it. But thanks, Fury. At least this time, you sound like a human being."
Fury didn't seem to mind Tony's tone and nodded. "Stay in touch, Stark, Consultant Artoria. The World is changing; we need clear-headed people." The communication ended.
The lab fell silent. Tony looked at Artoria and suddenly smiled. "It seems showing that 'I can do it without you' is sometimes more effective than arguing."
"Strength is always the best bargaining chip," Artoria also smiled. "And Fury is a realist. He knows when to change his way of doing business."
"Exactly." Tony stretched, the familiar, eager light reigniting in his eyes. "So, next... it's time to use this 'brand-new element' to give my Mark Series a full upgrade. Think about it: a complete energy source, plus our latest buffers and weapon systems... Jarvis, start the 'Mark 4 - New Era' project! Pull up the blueprints; we're going to do something big!"
A new element had been born. It not only lit up the future of energy but also defended Stark's independence and dignity in the most direct way. And the path to stronger Iron Man Armor and the broader unknown was unfolding before them, along with that cluster of pale gold light.
