Chapter 34 - Chapter 33: The P1 Grand Prix

After leaving Scissor Street, Ash and his party passed through a town thick with the atmosphere of martial arts. The town was busy preparing for the famous Fighting Pokémon Championship, the P1 Grand Prix. At the local Pokémon Center, they encountered a girl named Rebecca who looked deeply troubled.

Seeing Ash and his friends, who clearly looked like traveling Trainers, Rebecca grabbed onto them like a drowning person clutching at a straw. She pleaded desperately, "Please, you must defeat my father, Anthony, in the P1 Grand Prix!"

As it turned out, Rebecca's father, Anthony, was a martial artist. To win the P1 championship and the P1 Championship Belt, he had left home with his Hitmonchan for brutal training, becoming so obsessed that he completely neglected his family.

Rebecca missed her father dearly and only wanted him to come home.

"If you can help my father snap out of it and make him come back," Rebecca whispered with tear-filled eyes and a look of firm resolve, "I... I will grant you any request." Her cheeks flushed slightly, hinting at an unspoken promise.

Ash looked into her sincere, sorrowful eyes and felt a tug at his heart. It wasn't because of that "any request," but rather his own value for family bonds and a genuine desire to help this father and daughter.

As for a Pokémon to enter the competition, wasn't the Primeape he had recently caught the perfect candidate?

"I understand," Ash nodded solemnly. "I'll enter the P1 Grand Prix with my Primeape. I'll defeat Anthony and his Hitmonchan fair and square, and make him realize there are things far more important than a championship!"

Brock was also moved by the sentiment and decided to enter his Geodude as well, hoping to temper its fighting spirit.

The P1 Grand Prix began on schedule, and the atmosphere was electric.

Ash's Primeape relied on its immense strength and explosive speed, supplemented by Ash's guidance involving unique fighting techniques from his past life such as feints that mixed truth with illusion and more efficient ways to exert force.

They tore through the competition like a hot knife through butter, winning match after match. This Primeape, possessed of both wild power and a strange, methodical technique, quickly drew the attention of the crowd.

However, an unexpected interloper appeared during the tournament.

To ensure a win, the Team Rocket trio had kidnapped a Trainer named Giant and stolen his Hitmonlee to enter the race.

Facing Hitmonlee's fierce kicking style, Brock's Geodude put up a stubborn resistance, but it was ultimately countered in both type and tactics. It fell to the ground, heavily injured.

To protect his partner, Brock had no choice but to forfeit the match.

In the other semi-final, Anthony's Hitmonchan displayed staggering strength. Its erratic and agile footwork caused all of Hitmonlee's kicks to whistle through empty air, leading to an easy victory.

The final was set: Ash's Primeape vs. Anthony's Hitmonchan!

Just before the match began, Meowth tried to sneak into the arena to coat the floor with special glue, hoping to trap Hitmonchan's feet and clear the way for Team Rocket's disguised entry.

However, Ash had expected such tricks. He had Pikachu lying in wait; a precise Thunder Shock scorched Meowth black. With Ash finding the kidnapped Trainer as well, Team Rocket's cheating was exposed on the spot.

Once again, Team Rocket was chased away by security amidst a chorus of boos.

The final officially commenced! Anthony's Hitmonchan certainly lived up to its reputation. Its Mach Punch was as fast as lightning, its Drain Punch was unpredictable, and its fluid footwork caused Primeape a great deal of trouble.

Though Primeape possessed superior strength, many of its attacks were skillfully parried or evaded.

"Primeape, stay calm! Remember what I taught you!" Ash shouted. "Observe its rhythm! Use feints to confuse it! Attack its center of gravity!"

Hearing this, Primeape's eyes sharpened. It stopped its blind rushing and began to utilize the footwork Ash had taught it during their special training, shifting between real and fake movements. When Hitmonchan instinctively slid to the side to evade, Primeape saw the moment its weight shifted and swept out with a low angle Low Kick!

Thud! Hitmonchan's balance was shattered, and it crashed heavily to the ground.

"Now, Seismic Toss!" Ash seized the opportunity.

Primeape grabbed Hitmonchan's legs with both hands and began to spin it in a rapid circle, executing the high-power Fighting-type move Seismic Toss!

Finally, with a grunt of effort, Primeape slammed Hitmonchan down onto the floor before it could even try to stand. It was super effective!

Hitmonchan struggled for a few moments, but it ultimately could not get back up.

"Hitmonchan is unable to battle! The winner is Ash's Primeape! The champion of this year's P1 Grand Prix is Ash!" the referee announced loudly.

The stadium erupted! Ash's Primeape had won the P1 Championship Belt, the highest honor for Fighting Pokémon.

After the match, Anthony approached Ash, his eyes burning as he stared at the belt and the Primeape beside him. "Kid, give me your Primeape and that belt! With them, I can definitely defend the title next year!"

Ash refused without a moment's hesitation. He handed the P1 Championship Belt to Anthony and said, "Mr. Anthony, you can take the belt. It is proof of your pursuit of martial arts. But Primeape is my partner; I will never give him to anyone."

His tone turned stern. "But do you really think this belt is more important than the daughter waiting for you to come home? Rebecca has been waiting for you all this time!"

Anthony felt as if he had been struck by lightning. Only then did he notice his daughter in the crowd, her eyes shimmering with tears of anticipation.

He recalled the loneliness his daughter must have felt after he left home. The obsession in his heart collapsed instantly, replaced by shame. "I... I've been such a fool! I'm sorry, Rebecca! I'm sorry, Ash, I was out of line just now!"

Anthony finally woke up to reality and decided to take the belt home to reunite with his daughter.

Late that night, Rebecca met Ash as promised, her face filled with shyness and gratitude. "Ash, thank you... for bringing my father back. I... I will fulfill our agreement..."

And so, Ash enjoyed the "nourishment" provided by the young girl...
