Chapter 27 - Negligence.

Morning came quietly.

Soft gray light filled the medical facility, slipping through the narrow vents near the ceiling and stretching across tangled sheets, discarded clothes, overturned medical trays, and the faint marks of chaos left behind from the night before.

For once, Isaac slept peacefully with invisible claws dragging through his mind. Just calm and warmth.

Sienna lay curled against his chest beneath the thin blanket, one leg tangled with his, her cheek pressed against the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Her hair spilled over his arm in dark, messy strands, and every slow breath she took brushed against his skin.

It was all so domestic and comforting.

The sharp vibration of a phone shattered the silence.

Sienna stirred first, groaning softly into his chest. Her brows furrowed in annoyance, but she didn't move immediately. The phone stopped ringing.

Then it started again, and again and again.

Persistent and relentless.
