Chu Beihe's hand, still gripping his phone, gave a slight tremble.
Lowering his dark eyes, he stared expressionlessly at the little ginseng doll in his palm. The little doll didn't seem to mind his cold demeanor at all; its tiny, mung-bean-like eyes stared straight back at him, and its face bore a faint, fawning smile.
Then, still smiling, it did a little somersault right in the center of his palm.
A vein throbbed at Chu Beihe's temple. He finally confirmed that this thing was the same one he had seen two days ago.
In that case...
Chu Beihe looked up coldly, just in time to see someone running toward him from a distance and throwing themselves in front of the car to block it.
Heh, he should have known.
Grasping the little thing in his hand, Chu Beihe stepped out of the car.
Jiang Xuxu approached almost immediately, drawn by the blinding golden light emanating from him. One look and she gasped. Her own little Infant Spirit was actually rolling around in the man's hand!
Jiang Xuxu was astonished. This little fellow had bumped into the big boss twice now, and it didn't seem at all worried about being obliterated by his golden aura. Not only was it not worried, it actually seemed to be enjoying it?
What on earth?
"Miss Jiang, aren't you going to take your things back?"
Seeing her stare for a long time without making a move to take it, Chu Beihe spoke up, suppressing his spiritual discomfort. He made sure to emphasize the words "your things."
Jiang Xuxu snapped back to reality and hurriedly reached out, grabbing the little fellow directly from his palm. Perhaps because she moved too quickly, the back of her hand inadvertently brushed against his palm.
Chu Beihe felt a slight itch in his hand. Before the discomfort could even fully register, the sensation vanished as the contact was broken.
Jiang Xuxu didn't even notice. She grabbed the little creature, which was still kicking its short legs, and took out a red string to tie it up.
Watching her movements, Chu Beihe suddenly thought of the thing he had seen in Jiang Huai's photo. His phoenix-like eyes instinctively followed her motions, looking toward the center of her left palm.
Unfortunately, because the roadside light was dim and Jiang Xuxu was too fast, he couldn't see clearly before she had already finished binding the little thing.
"I'm sorry. I was just about to send it away, but somehow it managed to escape."
Logic dictated that after their obsessions were cleared, a Yin Spirit would only care about Reincarnation. But this "little radish head" was clearly coming for the big boss's golden aura.
Looking at the golden light that nearly blinded her, Jiang Xuxu felt more and more that this aura was extraordinary. She really wanted to try and snatch a handful of it secretly.
As the thought crossed her mind, Chu Beihe suddenly spoke, sounding uncharacteristically curious. "Send it away?"
Jiang Xuxu restrained herself and explained, "The Resentment on its body was eliminated by you. Without Resentment or obsession, it can be guided by an Underworld Messenger into Reincarnation."
Although Chu Beihe had already accepted the existence of ghosts, hearing her speak about it so casually still felt surreal. He couldn't help but ask, "How is it guided?"
Jiang Xuxu opened her mouth to speak, but then suddenly pointed behind him. "Huh?"
Chu Beihe turned around and saw a young man standing not far away. He was dressed in a black shirt and black pants, complete with a black hat and a black mask. Despite standing directly under a streetlight, he had almost no presence.
The driver standing on the other side also saw the person who had appeared out of nowhere, and his heart skipped a beat. The security at Yinjiang No. 1 was top-tier in all of Haishi; logically, someone dressed so suspiciously shouldn't have been able to get in.
But looking at Miss Jiang's expression, she seemed to recognize him.
The young man in the black hat walked up to Jiang Xuxu and spoke in a very formulaic tone. "Lingshi Flash Delivery. Do you have a Yin Spirit that needs to be guided to The Underworld?"
Chu Beihe: "..."
He instinctively looked at Jiang Xuxu. Were the Underworld Messengers of today really this modernized?
Jiang Xuxu was also surprised. "Since when did Lingshi start a guidance service? How come I didn't know?"
The man in the black hat replied, "This is a new joint project between the boss and The Underworld. Today is the first trial run."
Jiang Xuxu understood immediately. Although she was curious about how the boss behind Lingshi had such connections, she didn't ask further. She handed over the little Infant Spirit.
The man in the black hat took out a miniature scale and placed the Infant Spirit on it. The scale displayed 9 grams.
He frowned slightly. "The weight of this Yin Spirit is insufficient." He picked up the Infant Spirit and examined it before saying coldly, "This is an unformed half-soul. The Underworld cannot accept it at this time."
Jiang Xuxu wasn't surprised by this; she clearly already knew. "It is indeed an unformed Infant Spirit born from Resentment. But now that the Resentment has been cleared, it just needs to be nourished in The Underworld for a few years to take shape. Take it back first, and in a few years, it will be its turn in the queue..."
The man in the black hat rejected her bluntly. "No. The Underworld is currently overloaded. The agreement between the boss and the powers below stipulates that no unauthorized entities are to be admitted unless they are targets for guidance!"
As he spoke, he put the Infant Spirit back into Jiang Xuxu's hand. "Apologies, this order is a failed pickup."
With that, he turned to leave.
Jiang Xuxu was momentarily stunned. "Wait! Can't you make an exception? I'll pay more!"
The man in the black hat remained completely unswayed. "Apologies." He turned and walked away without the slightest hesitation.
Jiang Xuxu watched his figure quickly vanish into the darkness, feeling frustrated. In the past, the Underworld Messengers weren't this difficult to talk to. Usually, even if a soul was incomplete, a little hell money would smooth things over.
What was this now? Was she stuck with it?
Jiang Xuxu looked down at the innocent-looking Infant Spirit in her hand, her lip twitching.
Chu Beihe watched from the side without saying a word. Although it felt like a fantasy, he understood the logic of this "Lingshi Flash Delivery." If a company had regulations, they couldn't be changed on a whim. From that perspective, the boss of that company knew how to manage a business.
He turned and saw Jiang Xuxu looking as if she had a deep grudge against the world. This was likely the first time he had seen such an expression on the eldest miss of the Jiang family.
Arching an eyebrow, he took the initiative to show concern. "If this spirit can't be guided away, what will you do?"
Jiang Xuxu pursed her lips, sounding depressed. "Since it can't be taken, I'll have to raise this little radish head myself."
She would have to raise it until it was fully formed and then try to send it away again. Although it wasn't a difficult task, Jiang Xuxu had no interest in raising spirits. Since she had entered this field, she had seen many people who raised "little ghosts," but she always felt that practice wasn't orthodoxespecially since she belonged to the Fuyi Sect.
Despite her thoughts, the messenger refused to take it, and she had no other choice.
Depressed, she stuffed the little Infant Spirit back into her pocket, ignoring its attempts to rub against the big boss's golden light once more.
Chu Beihe watched her actions, his dark eyes deepening. As she turned to leave, he suddenly called out to her.
"What did you say that mark on my palm was before?"
Startled by the sudden question, Jiang Xuxu answered matter-of-factly, "A Protective Mark. Why do you ask?"
"It's nothing," Chu Beihe said coolly, as if it were of no consequence.
Seeing that he had no further reaction, Jiang Xuxu said no more and quickly walked back toward the Jiang family villa.
Chu Beihe watched her departing back, his gaze dark and unreadable. Finally, his expression shifted into a cold smile.
Lying again.
