Chapter 104 - Chapter 102: The City Beyond the Gate

The valley remained frozen in silence.

Far beyond the bridges, the Gate of Origins continued to open.

Its crimson light washed across the sky, painting the floating islands in shades of scarlet and gold.

Within the gate, the outline of an impossible city grew clearer.

Towering spires reached into crimson clouds.

Massive bridges of crystal connected floating districts.

Waterfalls of glowing energy poured upward into the heavens.

The city looked abandoned.

Yet somehow...

It didn't feel empty.

It felt as though it had been waiting.

Waiting for someone.

Waiting for Adrian.

---

Adrian couldn't take his eyes off it.

"...It's beautiful."

Mira slowly nodded.

"And lonely."

No one argued.

The city carried an overwhelming sense of silence.

Not the silence of death.

The silence of a place where time itself had stopped.

Elyan stepped beside Adrian.

"I've spent thousands of years searching the oldest records."

A pause.

"I've never seen anything like this."

Orion gripped his crystal staff tightly.

"Neither have I."

Even Caelis looked unsettled.

"The Endless possess memories stretching back farther than most civilizations."

He looked toward the city.

"And yet..."

He shook his head slowly.

"...none of us remember it."

---

The bridge pulsed beneath Adrian's feet.

Its silver light flowed toward the Gate of Origins once again.

This time, however—

The gate responded differently.

Instead of sending another beam of light...

A single staircase of crimson crystal slowly unfolded from the enormous doorway.

Step by step.

It stretched across the empty sky.

Toward the valley.

Until the final step rested only a few meters from Adrian.

The staircase had become a path.

An invitation.

The bridge spoke softly.

"The First Gate awaits its Heir."

Adrian sighed.

"It keeps calling me that."

Vaelor studied the glowing staircase.

"No one should cross alone."

"I wasn't planning to."

Adrian glanced at Elyan.

"You've been through enough ancient gateways already."

Elyan smiled faintly.

"I was actually volunteering."

Adrian laughed.

"I know."

---

Suddenly—

The young Traveler who had first crossed the bridge stepped forward.

The boy looked from Adrian to the crimson staircase.

"You're going, aren't you?"

Adrian hesitated.

"I think I have to."

The boy nodded.

"My grandmother used to tell me something."

Everyone looked at him.

"'If a door waits only for you...'"

He smiled shyly.

"'...don't make everyone else stand outside forever.'"

Silence settled over the valley.

Orion chuckled.

"Wisdom often finds unexpected voices."

Adrian smiled.

"I think your grandmother was very smart."

The boy grinned proudly.

"She always said she was."

Even Vaelor allowed himself the smallest smile.

---

Without warning—

The mark on Adrian's wrist flared brightly.

The four circles surrounding it began rotating.

Silver.

Blue.

Black.

Crimson.

As they aligned...

A fifth circle slowly appeared at the center.

Pure white.

The moment it formed—

Every bridge across every world answered.

Far away on Earth...

Kai was helping repair part of the ruined Sanctuary when his own Traveler's mark suddenly shone.

He looked at his hand.

"What now?"

Veyr stepped beside him.

"The bridges are calling."

Kai frowned.

"Calling us where?"

Before Veyr could answer...

A silver doorway appeared in the middle of the Sanctuary courtyard.

It remained closed.

Waiting.

---

Back in the valley, dozens of similar doorways appeared.

One beside Mira.

Another beside Vaelor.

Hundreds more opened across the three surviving worlds.

None of them led anywhere.

Not yet.

They were waiting.

Orion stared in amazement.

"The Gate of Origins..."

He looked at Adrian.

"...is awakening every bridge."

Caelis slowly nodded.

"It is preparing."

"For what?" Adrian asked.

No one answered.

Because no one knew.

---

A gentle breeze swept across the valley.

From somewhere beyond the crimson city...

Music drifted through the open gate.

Soft.

Beautiful.

Ancient.

The melody carried no words.

Yet everyone understood its meaning.

Welcome.

The city wasn't summoning a conqueror.

It was welcoming someone home.

Adrian's heart raced.

"I've never been there."

He whispered the words more to himself than anyone else.

"So why does it feel..."

He placed a hand against his chest.

"...familiar?"

Elyan watched him carefully.

"I don't think your heart is remembering."

Adrian looked at him.

"What do you mean?"

"I think..."

Elyan smiled sadly.

"...the city is."

Silence.

The possibility settled over everyone.

What if the Gate of Origins wasn't searching for Adrian?

What if it had been waiting for him all along?

---

Then—

The music stopped.

The warmth vanished.

A deep rumble echoed from inside the city.

The crimson sky above it darkened.

A massive shadow passed between the towering spires.

Far larger than any building.

Far older than any bridge.

The ground beneath the valley trembled.

Mira's smile disappeared.

"There is something alive in there."

Vaelor lowered his spear.

"It has awakened."

The shadow moved again.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Then—

A pair of enormous silver eyes opened within the city.

They were so large they could be seen even from the valley.

The ancient being looked directly across the impossible distance...

At Adrian.

The mark on his wrist burned with brilliant white light.

A voice echoed from the city.

Not loud.

Not threatening.

Gentle.

Filled with relief.

"At last..."

A long pause.

"...the last child has returned."

The valley fell into stunned silence.

Adrian couldn't breathe.

"The last..."

He looked at everyone around him.

"...child?"

No one had an answer.

But one truth had become impossible to deny.

The mystery wasn't just the city.

It wasn't just the Gate of Origins.

It was Adrian himself.

And somewhere inside the ancient city...

The answers had been waiting for him since long before he was born.
