He stared at the dead soil beneath him, but saw only darkness. His chest felt cold. Was his heart beating? Allen couldn't tell. Maybe, he just didn't care.
Moments after moments passed by. But Allen didn't move. He didn't have the will to move at all.
Everything felt meaningless.

Allen didn't know how monsters survived here, but the demons only survived thanks to a special ore that could produce water when filled with Demonic Qi as well as monster meat. Their village had one such ore too, behind their house.
Allen saw a pebble on his way. He kicked it, vexing his anger. The pebble soared through the air and found its target into the distance — the stone pillar of the fence of their village.
The first light of the day illuminated the village. Allen scanned the eastern horizon, but didn't find the rising sun. It was hidden behind the rocky mountains surrounding the village.
Allen heard from his father that he found this place by coincidence after getting lost in the Creson Mountain Range during his hunt for monsters. This mountain range stretched across the entire Desire Province; home to monsters of various ranks. And this part of the mountain range had the minimum number of monsters, which pretty much all Qi Gathering Realm demons could handle. For those reasons, Allen's father decided to settle down here.
Later, his father found the way out of this place and brought in a few people to settle here as villagers. That's how this tiny village of theirs came to be.
I wonder how father's hunting going in the mountains.
The sun eventually peeked over the rocky mountains. But its golden brilliance couldn't wash away the crimson color of the sky.
