Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: White Label Cup

10th February, Johannesburg

The team gathered inside a dimly lit hotel room. Where everyone sat in silence, their eyes focused on the glowing projector screen. Jaden leaned forward, his expression sharp, studying every movement on the replay. The footage showed the previous game of Kings FC, their next opponents in the White Label Cup, No one spoke. Each player seemed locked in thought, weighing the challenge ahead. Jaden's gaze lingered, already coming up with strategies, knowing this was more than just film, it was a glimpse of the battle to come.

Next to Jaden sat Anna and Coach Anderson, both leaning forward in quiet focus.

"Joburg sure has nice hotels," Anna whispered "Mhm… I love away games." she added

Jaden didn't take his eyes off the screen. His tone was low. "This will be a tough one. We're going up against the second best team in this competition. They've lifted this cup more times than most, and now they've got the home advantage. Not to mention…" He paused, shaking his head slightly. "They've got one of the largest fan bases in the country. And their fans? They're crazy."

"The white label cup huh... Things will surely be interesting" he added with a sinister grin.

Coach Anderson folded his arms, his gaze fixed on the footage of Kings FC pressing high up the pitch. The silence that followed carried the weight of what lays ahead.

After several minutes of tense observation, Jaden stood up.

"Alright, you're free to check out the city. But be back at the hotel by 8 p.m. sharp." Jaden said.

Coach Anderson was the first to leave, muttering something about spending the rest of the day watching more tape. One by one, the players followed and left.

Jaden turned to Max.

"Hey, Max, wanna tag along with me and Anna?"

Max smirked, already heading for the door.

"Nah, I'd rather finish reading my comic than be a third wheel. Sorry."

Anna's cheeks flushed.

"It's not like that, you jerk!" she snapped

"Okay then, let's go, Anna." Jaden said

They left the room together, the hotel lobby fading behind them as they stepped onto the bustling sidewalk. The city air was alive with people walking, car horns, and the faint smell of street food.

Just ahead, Jeremy Bolt appeared, holding a plastic bag. His stride was casual, but his eyes lit up when he spotted them.

"Young coach. Anna," Jeremy greeted warmly.

"Bolt, back so soon?" Jaden asked, raising a brow.

"Yeah, got everything I wanted. Anyway, I must be on my way now. See y'all back at the hotel." Jeremy lifted his arm in a quick wave before disappearing.

Jeremy continued down the sidewalk, "Those two seem to spend a lot of time together… huh, to be young," he muttered under his breath, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Jaden and Anna wandered into a quiet art gallery. They stopped side by side before a striking canvas, its colors bleeding into one another with raw intensity.

Anna tilted her head, eyes fixed on the painting.

"What are your thoughts? What do you think the artist was expressing?" she asked softly.

Jaden's gaze lingered on the chaotic strokes.

"A battle with his mind," he said, his voice low but certain. "What about you?"

Anna folded her arms, her brow furrowing as she studied the texture and muted tones.

"Loneliness. Isolation from the rest of the world. The colors, the roughness of the background… it all screams loneliness to me."

"Hey, Jaden," Savio's voice called from behind them.

Jaden and Anna turned, surprised.

"Savio…" Jaden said cautiously.

"Never thought I'd run into you in a place like this," Savio remarked, flashing a smile that revealed his shiny braces.

Anna leaned closer, whispering, "Jaden, you know Savio Silva?"

Savio's eyes shifted to her.

"Hi there," he greeted smoothly.

"Hi…" Anna replied softly.

"You're going up against Kings FC tomorrow, huh? Tough match," Savio said, his grin widening.

"Yeah," Jaden answered, confidence creeping into his smile. "But I've got a few ideas on how to stop them."

"Is that so? Well, don't disappoint me. It's my greatest desire to meet your team in the cup. And when that happens, I'll show you that good tactics aren't enough in football. One player can make the difference." His words carried a sinister edge, his grin sealing the challenge.

Jaden's competitive fire lit up.

"Hah, now you've got me fired up."

The two clasped hands in a firm handshake, rivals bound by respect, yet destined to clash.
