Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 – The Weight of Interference

The fragments faded.

Silence returned.

But it wasn't the same silence.

This one carried tension.

Judgment.

The Arena was watching.

I could feel it now—clearly.

Not like before.

Not vaguely.

Directly.

My Perception had changed something.

Or maybe—

It revealed something that was always there.

The crack above remained.

Unclosed.

Unstable.

A wound.

And I had just touched it.

"…this is bad," the woman whispered.

I didn't answer.

Because I already knew.

The ground beneath me began to glow faintly.

Lines forming.

Familiar.

The same pattern as before.

The same seal.

My chest tightened.

"…again."

The voice returned.

Not calm.

Not distant.

But sharp.

Focused.

"Interference escalation confirmed."

Every soul in the area stepped back instantly.

No hesitation.

No doubt.

They had seen this before.

Or feared it.

"Subject: Anshu."

My name echoed again.

Heavier than before.

"Stability breach detected."

The crack above pulsed.

Reacting.

The Arena wasn't just observing anymore.

It was responding.

To me.

I clenched my fists.

"What do you want?" I said under my breath.

The voice answered.

Cold.

Absolute.

"Correction."

The light beneath me intensified.

But this time—

It didn't pull me away.

It locked me in place.

My body froze.

Completely.

I couldn't move.

Couldn't resist.

Even my Perception—

Felt suppressed.

Forced down.

"Restriction protocol initiated."

My chest tightened.

"…what?"

The woman shouted—

"No—don't let it bind you!"

Too late.

The light shot upward.

Wrapping around my body.

Not physically—

But deeper.

Something inside me tightened.

My mind—

My awareness—

Compressed.

I gasped.

"What is this—?!"

The voice continued.

"Ability: Perception."

A pause.

"Limit applied."

My eyes widened.

"No—"

And suddenly—

Everything dulled.

The sharpness disappeared.

The clarity—

Gone.

My Perception…

Weakened.

Cut down.

My breathing became uneven.

"…no…"

The world felt slower again.

Blurrier.

Like I had been pushed back.

"You can't—" I whispered.

The voice didn't respond.

Because it didn't need to.

It had already done it.

"Balance adjustment complete."

The light faded.

The pressure lifted.

I dropped to one knee.

Breathing heavily.

The Arena fell silent again.

But now—

It felt different.

Satisfied.

The woman stepped toward me.

"They restricted you…"

I clenched my fists.

"…I can feel it."

My ability was still there.

But limited.

Controlled.

Like something was holding it back.

"Why?" I asked.

She looked at me carefully.

"Because you're growing too fast."

My jaw tightened.

"They're afraid of that."

Before I could respond—

The air shifted again.

Different from the system.

Not heavy.

Not absolute.

But—

Distorted.

Controlled.

Familiar.

I looked up.

"…him."

The space tore slightly.

And he stepped out.

Calm.

Unbothered.

Like always.

The woman immediately stepped back.

"I'm leaving," she said quickly.

I didn't stop her.

This wasn't for her.

This was for me.

He walked toward me slowly.

His eyes scanned me once.

Then—

"They restricted you."

Not a question.

I stood up.

Barely.

"Yeah."

A pause.

"…can you fix it?"

He looked at me.

For a long moment.

Then—

"No."

My chest tightened.

"…what?"

"They didn't remove it."

He stepped closer.

"They limited it."

"That's the same thing."

"No."

His voice sharpened slightly.

"It's not."

Silence.

Then he continued—

"If they removed it…"

"You'd lose it completely."

"But this—"

He gestured slightly.

"…this is control."

I frowned.

"They're trying to slow you down."

"Then how is that not bad?"

He looked directly into my eyes.

"Because now you'll actually learn it."

His words hit differently.

"What do you mean?"

"You were relying on it."

"I was using it."

"There's a difference."

A pause.

Then he stepped closer.

"Tell me something."

His voice lowered.

"When you fought that creature…"

"Were you thinking?"

I hesitated.

"…no."

"Exactly."

He nodded slightly.

"You weren't controlling it."

"It was controlling you."

My chest tightened.

"That's not—"

"It is."

His words cut through instantly.

"Perception isn't just seeing."

"It's choosing."

Silence.

I didn't respond.

Because I knew—

He was right.

"You were reacting to patterns."

He continued calmly.

"But now—"

A pause.

"You need to understand them."

I exhaled slowly.

"…and how do I do that?"

For the first time—

He smiled slightly.

"By losing it."

I frowned.

"That makes no sense."

"It will."

He stepped back.

"Try to use it."

I focused.

Closed my eyes.

Tried to feel it.

The movement.

The patterns.

But—

It was weaker.

Blurred.

Unstable.

"I can't…" I said.

"Yes, you can."

His voice didn't change.

"You're just used to it being easy."

Frustration rose inside me.

"This isn't easy."

"It's not supposed to be."

A pause.

Then—

"This is where you actually grow."

Silence fell.

Different this time.

Focused.

"Again," he said.

I tried again.

Slower.

More careful.

Not forcing it.

Letting it come.

Faint.

Very faint.

But there.

"…I can feel it," I whispered.

"Good."

"Now don't follow it."

I opened my eyes.

"What?"

"Don't let it guide you."

"Then what do I do?"

He stepped closer.

"Guide it."

The words felt strange.

Impossible.

But something inside me—

Understood.

I focused again.

Not chasing the movement.

Not reacting.

But—

Choosing where to look.

Choosing what to follow.

The faint patterns became slightly clearer.

Still weak.

But more stable.

"…this is different," I said.

"Yes."

His voice softened slightly.

"This is yours."

A pause.

"Not hers."

Lily.

My chest tightened.

Before I could ask—

He spoke again.

"Your sister didn't learn control."

"She forced change."

Silence.

"That's why the Arena broke."

The truth hit harder this time.

"So if I do the same…"

He looked at me.

"You'll make it worse."

A pause.

"Or you'll destroy it."

The words stayed in the air.

Heavy.

Real.

Before I could respond—

The crack above pulsed again.

Stronger.

The Arena wasn't done.

Neither was I.

He looked up briefly.

Then back at me.

"You don't have much time."

"For what?"

He stepped back slightly.

"To decide what you are."

A pause.

Then—

"A continuation…"

His eyes locked onto mine.

"…or something new."

The space around him began to distort again.

He was leaving.

"Wait—!"

I stepped forward.

"Who are you really?"

For the first time—

He stopped.

Turned slightly.

And said—

"I'm what happens when someone fails to leave."

Silence.

Then—

He disappeared.

Gone.

Just like that.

I stood there.

Breathing slowly.

The restriction still there.

The ability weaker.

But clearer.

Controlled.

I looked up.

At the crack.

Still open.

Still watching.

And for the first time—

I didn't feel fear.

I felt—

Responsibility.

"I won't repeat your mistake…" I whispered.

A pause.

"…Lily."
