Chapter 171 - Chapter 173: Accompanying, Not Compromising

Angron could appear in a form similar to a Stand—or perhaps one should call it the War God of Hell form. What was more miraculous was that, despite being a soul, he possessed formidable physical combat power.

Whether fists or axe, his attacks could inflict not only physical damage, but also psychic damage.

However, this mighty Angron had one problem...

Would he be willing to come out of Flandre's body?

Fortunately, Angron happened to be in a good mood today. Or perhaps he knew what was happening outside and was willing to give Bruce, his comrade-in-arms, some face.

"!!!"

The entire strategic command center was instantly shocked when they sensed that familiar aura.

A moment later, Angron's phantom emerged from behind Flandre. He lowered his head and looked at this mortal captain, his feelings somewhat complicated.

For him, this was the first time he had ever faced Sarrin in an absolutely rational state.

And in that very moment, as their eyes met, Angron realized just how special this captain was. Not only was she loyal, she was also one of the very few who could understand his pain.

Yet people like her were extremely rare within the Legion. Back then, trapped in rage and agony, he had blindly rejected their goodwill, and had even answered it with his fists.

Whenever he thought of this, Angron's desire to leave the World Eaters Legion only grew stronger.

"Lord... Lord Angron, is it really you?"

Seeing such a rational Angron, Sarrin was briefly thrown into confusion.

As a mortal who had spent considerable time with the Primarch, Sarrin knew Angron's changes very clearly. If the previous Angron had been like a vicious hound suppressing violent rage, then the current Angron gave off an indescribable warmth.

Just looking at him, standing beside him, gave one the sensation of being wrapped in something invisible and soft. It made body and soul alike feel utterly relaxed.

Heavens.

Was this truly Lord Angron?

And yet, that aura was indeed his.

"It's me!"

Flandre raised both hands and cheered.

Angron took a deep breath, reached out to stroke Flandre's head, then silently nodded.

"I told you, the current Angron is in a very special situation. I am only exercising command authority temporarily, Captain Sarrin."

Bruce stated once more.

"Is that so, Lord Angron?"

Sarrin asked Angron, whose face was visibly displeased.

Anyone with eyes could see that Angron was very annoyed. It was like he had just fallen asleep, only to be woken by a phone call and forced to play a game.

But precisely because of that, Sarrin no longer doubted Angron's authenticity.

Everything else could be faked. Only this impatient, childlike temper truly could not be imitated.

"Sarrin."

Angron spoke in a low voice.

"I do not want to emphasize this again, whether to you or to anyone else in the Legion."

"I no longer want to manage you. I have never felt happy leading a Legion. So my mission has ended. You are free now too."

"My comrade-in-arms, Bruce Wayne, will replace me as leader of the Twelfth Legion. And he is also the only one willing to take you in. Do not misunderstand that."

"Do I need to repeat myself again, Captain?"

Angron floated in front of Sarrin and asked.

"..."

Sarrin fell silent. She looked at Angron's phantom, as though thinking about something.

After a while, her worried expression shifted into a relieved smile.

"Then, Lord Angron, will you return someday?"

Sarrin asked softly.

Even though she understood this meant the Primarch was abandoning them, Sarrin felt that Angron was not that kind of irresponsible person.

"Perhaps..."

Angron shook his head.

"Is it because we are not yet worthy?"

"I told you, I do not want any shackles to exist on either you or me, Sarrin."

Angron answered.

"I understand."

Sarrin quickly replied.

"We will work hard to become your pride, and we will await your return."

"The World Eaters Legion is your home. The Conqueror also serves you alone, Lord Angron."

"..."

Faced with this statement of loyalty, Angron said nothing. He turned and glanced at Bruce and Flandre.

After a while, he disappeared of his own accord, returning to Flandre's body.

All that drawn-out fuss over such a trivial matter. How annoying!

If they bother me over this nonsense again, I'll kill all of you! Let the Twelfth Legion go straight to hell.

Of course, the current Angron could not truly bring himself to do that.

"Why has Lord Angron... become like this?"

After standing up, Sarrin asked Bruce, the person who knew the inside story.

"Maybe after being mad for a lifetime, he suddenly became lucid and is having trouble adjusting. But..."

Bruce shrugged and said:

"Don't be fooled by what he says. Deep down, he still cares a lot about the Twelfth Legion. Otherwise, he wouldn't have entrusted me with managing it."

"What will happen?"

Sarrin seemed to understand something and asked again.

"You are traitors. That is already set in stone. If you do not produce some achievements next, then having the Legion purged would be a minor issue. In the worst case, the Legion's status may be revoked, and everything about the World Eaters—including the Primarch—will be erased completely."

"The Thousand Sons Legion was merely split apart, but their Primarch is still there. As for your Primarch, given his current state, can he really be relied upon?"

Bruce laid out the interests and consequences clearly.

Since they were both intelligent people, Bruce believed Sarrin would make the correct choice. If she still insisted on being a thorn, then...

He would respect another person's fate.

He had even invited the Primarch out and had given everyone more than enough face. If they still resisted, what else could Bruce say?

He did not know what would happen to the World Eaters Legion, but he could absolutely carry Flandre back to the Scarlet Devil Mansion and retire there. Curze and the entire Eighth Legion would not care if the family had one more little one.

"Then why not try letting her command the Legion?"

Sarrin looked toward Flandre on the back of Bruce's neck.

No matter what, Bruce was ultimately an outsider. Even if this was the Primarch's request, having an outsider lead the Legion left a thorn in her heart.

If Flandre did it, however, that would be acceptable to everyone—even if this Primarch currently looked like a mentally immature little girl.

But the problem was this: if the previous "madman" Angron could command the World Eaters Legion, then why couldn't "little girl" Angron do it?

"Are you sure?"

Bruce took Flandre down and handed her toward Sarrin.

"This one is even more uncontrollable than Angron."

"?"

Flandre tilted her head and looked at the older sister before her.

Then she turned back toward Bruce and asked innocently:

"Can Flandre... eat her?"

"Of course not, dummy."

Bruce withdrew Flandre and held her in his arms, rubbing her head. Only then did her urge to drink blood gradually calm down.

An immature worldview, combined with an overly innocent powerful existence.

Let a Flandre like this command the World Eaters Legion?

If nothing went wrong, that would be a miracle.

"Sigh..."

Seeing this, Sarrin could only let out a heavy sigh.

No matter how mad Angron had been, one could still communicate with him and understand the logic behind his behavior.

But this one before her was truly impossible to predict.

Even without Bruce supervising her, someone else would supervise her, because Flandre's current position was more like that of a seal—something anyone could make use of.

Of course, the premise was that this seal did not crush you first.

"Then what do you need me to do? Or rather, what do you need the Conqueror to do?"

After thinking it through again and again, Sarrin gave up her insistence.

No matter what, they had to buy enough time for the Primarch to grow.

They had already endured the hardest period. This little bit more was nothing.

Sarrin firmly believed that as long as she held to her bottom line, the Legion would never fall into the hands of anyone other than Angron.

"Anything at all, Captain Sarrin?"

The corners of Bruce's mouth lifted slightly. He was very satisfied with the captain's compromise.

He had thought he would need to carry out a top-to-bottom purge and become the villain in order to stabilize the Legion's structure. He had not expected Sarrin to compromise.

That made everything much easier.

Do not be fooled by the fact that Sarrin was merely mortal. Her voice within the Legion was in no way inferior to Angron's, because the senior officers led by Khârn obeyed her.

One could say that as long as Sarrin and Angron were handled, commanding the World Eaters Legion would basically face no obstacles.

"As long as it accords with the Legion's interests and does not betray the Primarch."

Sarrin added.

"Very good! Angron, tell the captain where we are going next."

"Isstvan!"

Flandre answered loudly.

Now, they had gained another half-piece in their hand for clearing out the rebels.
