Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Unstable Mind

The guest room mirrored the elegance they had seen in Dichondra City, with soft, glowing lamps, ornate tapestries, and a view of the palace gardens that stretched toward the horizon. Alice, ever the meticulous observer, immediately pulled out her diary, flipping open a fresh page. She began documenting every detail—the city's architecture, traditions, magical customs, and even small behaviors of the townspeople.

‎"This land… it's incredible," Alice whispered to herself, jotting notes at a rapid pace. "Every city has its own charm, but the traditions here… they all seem connected somehow. Understanding them might be key to our investigation."

‎Rein floated slightly above the floor with a small cloud, scanning the palace and its surroundings. "Everything here feels alive… magical, but grounded," she commented, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.

‎Leo glanced around at his team, a determined look on his face. "We're here to find answers. Every city might hold pieces of the puzzle—and Fescue could be one of the most important ones."

‎Helmond remained quiet, his gaze distant. There was something about Fescue that felt different to him, though he couldn't yet put it into words.

‎As the team settled into their rooms, the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting golden light over the city streets. The adventure was far from over—and Fescue City might just hold the clues they desperately needed.

‎While Leo and the rest of the team rested peacefully, Helmond stayed awake, sitting in the shadows of the guest room. His eyes were fixed on nothing, but his mind was racing.

‎A thought kept gnawing at him: Kharous Raine… my creator… why does he act like he doesn't know me?

‎If he truly made me… Helmond whispered to himself, if he shaped every part of me… why erase my memories? Why pretend I'm nothing to him?

‎The questions felt like daggers, each one slicing deeper into the corners of his mind. He remembered fleeting flashes—visions of power, of commands, of moments he couldn't fully place. And now, with the chaos in Thaloun Grass, the puzzle pieces started to shift.

‎Helmond clenched his fists, his voice barely audible. "If Kharous created me… if he is the one behind that creature… why treat me as if I'm a stranger? Is it punishment… or… a test?"

‎The weight of centuries of confusion pressed on him, but alongside it grew a spark of resolve. If I can face this villain, if I can uncover the truth about this creature… maybe then I'll finally understand him. Maybe then I'll understand myself.

‎He leaned back, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts tangled between anger, curiosity, and longing. Kharous had built him, yet abandoned him in a maze of forgotten memories—and the answers Helmond sought were likely hidden in the very heart of this mission.

‎Day 4 Before the Wedding

‎Leo and Rein spent the day quietly observing the royal family, making sure nothing seemed out of place. Helmond sat off to the side, lost in thought and piecing together theories about Kharous and the creature terrorizing Thaloun Grass, while Alice busily questioned officials and recorded every detail about the palace and the city.

‎Despite their careful surveillance, the royal family showed no signs of anything unusual. The King's occasional twitch was just age, the Queen carried herself with graceful elegance, and the princess and prince acted perfectly ordinary. With nothing suspicious to report, the team decided to stay another day to continue their investigation.

‎As Leo and Rein walked together in a quiet courtyard, their eyes accidentally met. For a moment, a small smile flickered between them, and the memory of the cloud scene—their playful almost-kiss—came to mind, making both of them blush softly.

‎Leo cleared his throat, trying to act casual. "Uh… Rein… would you… like to try some of the local delicacies tonight? Maybe outside the palace, somewhere quieter?"

‎Rein tilted her head, teasing. "Are you asking me out… on a date?"

‎Leo scratched the back of his neck, cheeks turning red. "I… I've never asked anyone like this before… so maybe? A date?"

‎Rein laughed softly, the sound light and warm. "You're… adorable when you're nervous. Fine, I'll go. But don't think I'll go easy on you."

‎Leo grinned, his heart racing. "Deal. And… maybe after dinner we can walk around the city? See the streets, the lights…"

‎"Hmm… sounds fun," Rein replied, smiling genuinely. "Alright, it's a date. But I'm watching you the whole time."

‎As they returned to join the rest of the team, a playful, quiet warmth lingered between them. Even in the middle of a tense investigation, this small moment of connection reminded them that friendship, trust, and maybe something more could grow—even in the shadow of danger.

Night of Day 4 – Leo & Rein's Date

‎The sun had long dipped below the horizon, and Fescue City was bathed in soft golden lantern light. Leo and Rein stepped out quietly, leaving the palace behind for the night streets, the gentle hum of the city around them.

‎Their first stop was a small street vendor, filled with delicious smells and colorful displays of local delicacies. Leo picked up a sweet pastry, handing it to Rein with a shy smile.

‎"Here… try this," he said softly.

‎Rein took it, her eyes sparkling. "Hmm… not bad. You've got good taste, Leo."

‎Leo's cheeks warmed, but he couldn't help smiling. "Glad you like it. There's more where that came from."

‎They wandered through the streets, sampling food at every stall—spicy skewers, sweet fruits, unusual desserts, and even small magical treats that sparkled when eaten. Every bite brought laughter, teasing, and playful glances, each moment making the world feel quieter, slower, like it existed just for them.

‎At one point, Rein stopped at a small fountain, leaning over to watch the water glow softly under the lanterns. "You know," she said, voice gentle, "it feels like the whole city is… slowing down for us tonight."

‎Leo looked at her, heart thudding. "Yeah… it really does." He paused, then smiled nervously. "I… I've never had a night like this before. Just… enjoying it with someone."

‎Rein turned to him, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Well, I'm glad it's with me," she teased lightly, though her eyes softened.

‎Leo's breath caught. The city, the lights, the quiet magic around them—it all faded into the background. All that mattered was this moment, with her, here, now.

‎They continued walking, sharing food, jokes, and stories from their adventures. Every laugh and glance brought them closer, and even without words, they felt a growing bond, something tender, joyful, and safe amidst the chaos of their mission.

‎By the time they returned to the palace, their hearts were full. Leo felt a warmth he hadn't noticed before, and Rein's usual teasing had a soft edge to it—an unspoken acknowledgment that this night, this bond, was something special.

‎As they parted ways for the night, Leo whispered, almost to himself, "I hope… there are many more nights like this."

‎Rein smiled quietly, looking at him from the shadows. "We'll see," she replied, her voice teasing but gentle. "Maybe there will be."

‎The lanterns of Fescue City flickered behind them, a silent witness to a night that neither of them would forget, a night where friendship, trust, and the first sparks of something more began to bloom.

‎Day 3 Before the Wedding

‎This was their final day in the City of Fescue. By the next morning, they would continue their journey to the last city of the land—Nimblewill, where the upcoming royal wedding would take place.

‎However, something about Helmond had been troubling the team.

‎Helmond sat quietly in the guest room, staring blankly ahead as if his thoughts were somewhere far away. Since the day they investigated the destroyed Village of Willow, he had not been the same. His usual calm composure had faded, replaced by moments where he would simply zone out without explanation.

‎Leo noticed it immediately.

‎He approached Helmond with concern written across his face.

‎"Helmond… are you alright?" Leo asked.

‎Helmond didn't respond at first.

‎Rein gently stepped closer, placing a comforting hand on Helmond's shoulder.

‎"You've been quiet lately," she said softly. "If something's bothering you, you can tell us."

‎But Helmond only gave a faint nod, still lost in his thoughts. Whatever was happening inside his mind, he clearly wasn't ready to talk about it yet.

‎Seeing that pushing him further might not help, Leo sighed.

‎"Alright… we'll give you some space," he said.

‎For the rest of the day, Leo and Rein continued their investigation around the city, quietly observing the royal family and the citizens for any sign of an anomaly.

‎Meanwhile, Alice stayed inside the guest room with Helmond, surrounded by books, documents, and maps. She continued writing detailed notes into her diary while gathering every piece of information she could about the land of Thaloun Grass.

‎Helmond remained near the window, silent.

‎His thoughts were elsewhere.
