SF Chapter 87: First Day III
"That looks like an old Christmas tree skirt," Jay remarked with his usual sarcasm.
"It's a traditional Colombian poncho. I want my new classmates to know I'm proud of my heritage," Manny retorted.
"I'm against bullying, but he's basically begging for it," Dani muttered to his dad.
Gloria gave the two of them a look before walking over to Manny and kissing the top of his head. "I think you look very handsome, lindo."
"Come on, Gloria, he can't go to school dressed like that on his first day," Jay argued, trying to reason with her.

Jay was sitting on the couch in his Brentwood house.
"This thing with Manny is nothing I haven't seen before. Mitchell and Daniel were both different in their own ways."
"I remember one time Mitchell decided to wear a jaunty scarf to school. I kept my mouth shut. He got his jaunty butt kicked," he recalled.
Jay let out a deep sigh. "With Daniel..." He looked around for a second. "The problem wasn't what he was wearing... it was the school principal catching him wearing nothing. With two other girls..."
"Turns out they were the principal's daughters. So she covered the whole thing up, and it stayed between us."
"After that, we made Daniel switch schools." He shook his head.

"Jay," Gloria warned.
But then Jay noticed something. "What are you carrying on the side there?" he asked, noticing that the poncho had something hidden underneath it.
"I just hope it's a gun. At least he wouldn't get picked on. And it is his heritage..." Dani muttered.
"My pan flute." Manny pulled the flute out from under his poncho, finally revealing his plan. "I'm going to play some Colombian folk music for my new classmates."
"Huh. Great," Gloria replied, though this time without her usual tone of complete support.
"I've never been more proud of you. I'm sure your friends are gonna love it," she added as she walked over to Jay. Then she muttered to her husband, "Break the flute."
"What?" Jay asked, completely confused.

"The poncho by itself is fine. The poncho plus the flute plus the stupid dance - My son will die a virgin." Gloria remarked making a face
Jay just nodded. "That's right."

Jay comically grabbed the flute and tried to pretend he accidentally stepped on it. Manny just stared at him in disbelief.
In the end, Manny went in normal clothes, without the poncho.
Now Jay, Daniel, and Gloria were walking into a luxury car dealership after dropping Manny off at school.
"Finally!" Dani looked like an excited little kid.
An incredibly hot saleswoman walked over to help them. "How can I help you?" she asked with a beautiful smile.
Jay immediately looked away to avoid getting himself in trouble with his wife.
Dani, on the other hand, widened his eyes and muttered, "Oh my God, I'm gonna end up buying three Lamborghinis."
Gloria heard that and immediately grabbed Daniel by the collar, positioning herself in front of him with her arms crossed.
"You can call the owner of the dealership," she said with an unfriendly expression. "Antonio."
"Anthony," Jay corrected from the side.
"Jess (yes), Athony."
The saleswoman turned around, and a short while later she came back with another man beside her.
"Jay, Gloria, Daniel, good to see you again," he said with a smile as he shook everyone's hand.
"My daughter loved your movie, Daniel," he commented while shaking his hand last.
Dani raised an eyebrow and leaned forward slightly. "Is she pretty?"
"Very," Anthony agreed. "And she would look great in the passenger seat of a Ferrari."
"Old man, you have zero shame. Are you seriously trying to sell your daughter for a Ferrari deal?"
"Eh." He shrugged. "I've seen a bunch of broke losers hanging around her. A rich playboy would be an improvement."
"Hu-hu," Gloria coughed in disapproval at the immoral interaction between the two of them. Even if it was probably a joke.
"Mommy Gloria is right," Dani said as he straightened up.
"What do you mean Ferrari? I'm buying a Lambo!" he revealed.
"That was the problem," she retorted sarcastically.
"Good taste," Anthony said as he patted him on the shoulder. "We have a yellow Gallardo and a black Murciélago in the showroom."
"But if you want something heavily customized, we can order it too. It just might take a few months on the waiting list," he explained.
Cars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis could take a while to be delivered.
They went to check out the Gallardo, which had launched that year, and then the Murciélago, with Dani taking the test drive while his dad sat beside him.
"It's gonna be this one. I love it!" he declared, pointing at the black Murciélago.
Dani looked at his father. "Now we can get one for you too, dad. How about a Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG?"
"Daniel," Jay sighed.
"Oh, come on, dad. My gift," he insisted. "You deserve the newest version of the Mercedes."
Jay placed a hand on his waist, but knowing his son would keep insisting, he finally said, "Fine."
"Thank you, son." He tried to show affection in his own way.
Daniel turned toward his stepmother. "Sorry, Gloria. I leave the really expensive gifts for my dad to give you."
He raised one hand while explaining, "It's one of his trump cards to calm you down whenever he does something dumb."
The Latina laughed. "It is okay, Dani."
"And we all know he's gonna do more stupid things eventually, so it's only a matter of time," Dani pointed out.
"Daniel!" Jay scoffed.
-------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐-----------‐---
Later that same day, Jay was meeting with some of his old friends at the golf course. "Kid bought a Lamborghini at seventeen," he commented about what had happened earlier that day.
"Complete moron," he added, though there was a hidden smile on his face. "At least he remembered his old man. Got me a Mercedes."
[Gloria and Jay commentary]
"You were just humble bragging to them," Gloria accused her husband.
Jay simply opened his arms as if he had no idea what she was talking about.
