Earth 22nd century.
On a computer screen, the discussion on the daily news was going on with the utmost solemnity.
[Throughout the ages, Earth had gone through countless horrifying cataclysmic events one after the other, but the history of those horrors was so long, and humanity doesn't have the means to determine how, or why it happent.
Before the prehistoric age, long before the dinosours came into existence. The first cataclasmic calamity restructured the current Earth from what was once a planet with only waters.
It was followed by the second cataclysmic event, wiping the dinosaurs off the face of Earth and changing the geological topography of the world as we know it today.]
"Mr Yeager, what does that have to do with the strange phenomenon Earth was facing now?"
A person dressed in an anchor suit asked the old person in a white coat seated infront of him.
"Can't you connect the dots, Mr Franz? The strange phenomena that have been occurring all around the Earth... I am afraid they are likely the prologue of the third cataclysmic event."
"What!! Mr Yeager, what do you mean?! Is there any concrete proof of that, we can't come to such a conclusion yet!"
The ancor panic visibly and denied the claim on the live TV.
"Concrete proof? Do we still need that?
The black oceans are boiling from something originating in the Marina Trench, the sun is getting further and further away from Earth, it has lost its light on earth. If that's not enough, the Earth is also showing signs of breaking apart...
We predict it will not be able to sustain the ecosystem anymore…"
The scientist sighed heavily as he recounted the confidential data only the top brass of the world knew.
He knew the massive effect this news would cause and how much trouble he would get into, but why would he care when the world was about to come to an end?
The world deserved to know what was about to kill them.
"But– but…" the ancor shuttered, not knowing what to say, fell silent on the TV.
Then, a huge earthquake shook the room they were in, leading to an evacuation while live.
…
In the room where the computer screen had been playing the news, a young man about twenty years old held his head with both his hands, looking at the world-shaking news in shock.
"D-dad was actually right?!" the young man uttered in disbelief.
A few days ago, his father, who works for the government came home in panic, uttering nonsense like the world was ending and the government evacuating selected few people to outer space in order to preserve a little of the human race in case of the worst case scanario were to happen.
At that time, they all thought that their father had gone crazy from work.
"This is bad, he mention he had only three ticket quotes given for his special position and we have four members in the family..."
The young man thought about his two parents and his sweet little sister, who had suffered because of him before.
He could bear the thought of any of them being left behind to die.
Then walked to the living room, where he heard the sound of quarrelling.
In the living room, there was a middle-aged man and a woman along with a girl about 15 years of age, and at this moment, their face showing shock, grief, and reluctance.
"I'll stay behind, you three prepared, the soldier will be here any second for the pick up."
The middle-aged man with white hair and an aged face said resolutely.
"No!! It should be me; I'll say behind. The government wouldn't accept our family even with the tickets without you,"
A kind-looking woman with long black hair said resolutely. Beside her, the young girl was tightly hugging the woman's clothes.
It has been a while since their argument started and doesn't seem it will end anytime soon.
Due to the sudden revelation of the disastrous news on TV by Dr. Yeager, the world was thrown into an even more turmoil and chaos. The government had also notified them that the time for the Emergency Space Evacuation mission had been sped up.
Seeing the important meeting going nowhere, the young man named Joan went back to his room and rumaged around a bit, before a cigarette made it's way into his fingers.
Lighting up the tip, he went to the darkly lit sorrounding noon and exhale slowly.
...
After a moment,
A shaking and buzzing sound of a military chopper came from the surroundings, and the family fell silent.
*Bang!*
*Bang!*
*Bang!*
"Mr Steven, we are from the Special Evacuation Unit. We are here to pick you up, please hurry!"
"They are already here?!"
The middle-aged man was shocked and quickly went to opened he door.
Outside the house were serious-looking soldiers in uniform and a military helicopter at the lawn ready to take off.
The middle-aged man turned, saying, "Three of you, get into the chopper now!"
"But–" the woman tried to rebuke, but was immediately stopped.
"No more arguing! And where is Joan? Why hasn't he come down yet?"
The middle-aged man finally notice their son wasn't there and asked.
The woman too blink, finally noticing their son hadn't came out yet.
Both of them went up the stairs and banged on his door to readied himself, but there was no reply.
Worried, they force into the room, which still had the news playing on the screen.
But surprisingly, there was no one.
The man and the woman looked at each other and called his name, but no response came.
Still at a loss, they finally notice a neatly folded piece of paper in front of the computer.
Written on the piece of paper was:
Mom, Dad. Both of you should get on the ship with sweet pumpkin; she needs you both. Don't look for me, you will only be wasting your time. Love you.
Joan
The man and the woman both froze on the spot, shaking and trembling.
They stood there at the spot for a long time, not moving.
…
Somewhere a little far away from the house.
Despite it being noon of the day, the sky was dark with scattered weak light veiling the world.
Beneath a tree, the young man looks at the chopper taking off in the distance toward the ever-twilight sky, having made the hardest decision in his life.
'Be safe,' the young man thought absently.
From a young age Joan had caused nothing but trouble for his parents.
He had smoked, drink, and even thrown into jail a few time. He didn't like to work and would laze around all day playing games.
He wasn't a type of person to think about family, and that didn't changed no matter how well they treated him or how loving they were towards him...
But it was that one time, where he caused his little sister health to turn frail after loosing a kidney for him, that something snap inside him and caused his changed.
"Finally, they are gone...
No need to be sad, this means I can finally play my game without them nagging me all the time!" With a silly laugh, he returned to the home that had been vacated recently.
Sitting on his chair, he opened his favourite game and started clicking on the keyboard.
