Chapter 242 - Chapter 242

On the open deck of the warship, four naval officers stood beneath a cold spread of stars.

For a while, no one spoke.

Then one of them exhaled slowly. "I've seen tough men before… but nothing like that."

Another scoffed, arms folded. "That kind of stubbornness is exactly why so many people died."

Different opinions, same conclusion.

Arthur Curry's will was something else entirely.

No matter what they'd thrown at him, no matter how far they pushed, he hadn't begged. Not once. He endured everything in silence, like a man carved out of iron and bad decisions.

And yet…

From inside the sealed chamber behind them, a broken sound echoed faintly through the walls.

The same man they'd just admired was now unraveling.

Inside, Arthur hung suspended by heavy chains, his body marked with the aftermath of relentless interrogation. Every muscle screamed. Every breath burned.

But none of that mattered anymore.

What mattered… was who was watching.

Across the room, Diana stood frozen.

She hadn't turned away.

And that made it worse.

Arthur's body trembled, not from pain this time, but from something far deeper. Something that hollowed him out from the inside.

Humiliation.

Pure, suffocating humiliation.

"Diana! Don't look at me!" he shouted hoarsely.

"Arthur, don't turn around!" she fired back at the same time.

They both froze.

Silence crashed down between them like a dropped blade.

Arthur's thoughts spiraled.

If she didn't want him to turn around…

What had she gone through?

Behind him, a voice slipped into the room like poison in water.

"Go on, Arthur," Noah Vale said lightly. "Take a look. Really see each other."

Arthur's jaw clenched.

That voice. He would never forget it.

Noah stepped closer, tone almost conversational.

"I gave you both a chance," he said. "You chose not to take it."

A pause.

"Now we move to consequences."

Arthur's grip tightened against the chains.

Noah's words turned colder.

"The oceans. The Amazons. Every last one of your people… they'll go through what you're going through now."

Diana's breath hitched.

Arthur's vision darkened.

Noah continued, almost amused.

"And just to make sure the message sticks? I'll make sure the whole world sees you like this. Every screen. Every city. Front row seats."

The room felt smaller. The air thinner.

For the first time since this began, something inside both of them cracked.

If this continued…

If their people suffered like this because of them…

That wasn't a burden they could carry.

They weren't just leaders.

They were shields.

And shields weren't allowed to fail.

"Stop."

Arthur's voice came out low, strained.

"Please… leave my people out of this."

Diana spoke at the same time.

"We surrender."

The words hung in the air like a verdict.

Noah smiled.

"Really? That was faster than I expected."

Arthur lowered his head.

"Just… promise me you won't touch Atlantis."

Noah considered that for a moment.

Then he nodded toward the sealed walls of the ship.

"We dock in about an hour," he said. "If you can make it through that time without turning around… without making a sound…"

His eyes sharpened slightly.

"I'll keep my word."

Arthur didn't hesitate.

"Deal."

Behind him, he could feel Diana's presence, rigid and silent.

Noah leaned in close to her, voice barely above a whisper.

"And you," he murmured, "we'll see how well you hold up."

Diana shut her eyes, jaw tightening as she braced herself.

Time crawled.

Each second stretched thin, fragile, unbearable.

The faint clink of chains echoed in the room.

Arthur stood there, back turned, saying nothing.

Not a word.

Not a sound.

Tears slipped down his face, silent and unseen.

He didn't wipe them away.

Didn't move.

Didn't break the rule.

Because this wasn't about pride anymore.

It was about everyone else.

Miles away, in Central City, the world felt completely different.

Barry Allen had just finished dinner with his mother.

And now he was panicking.

Noah Vale had promised to handle the war.

Then vanished.

Just… gone.

Barry paced through the streets, anxiety chewing at his thoughts.

Did he just disappear?

Did I trust the wrong guy?

He searched everywhere he could think of, moving from block to block, scanning faces, rooftops, reflections.

Nothing.

Eventually, he dropped onto a set of steps, exhaustion hitting him all at once.

Hope felt… distant.

Then—

A roar.

Not one voice.

Thousands.

Barry looked up.

Lights flicked on across buildings. Windows burst open. People leaned out, shouting, cheering, laughing.

More poured into the streets, running, hugging strangers, yelling at the top of their lungs.

"Peace! It's over!"

"We're safe!"

"The war's done!"

Barry blinked, stunned.

"What…?"

He grabbed a passerby, barely managing to get the words out.

"What happened?"

The guy stared at him like he'd just asked what year it was.

"You serious? It's over! Atlantis and the Amazons surrendered!"

Barry's heart skipped.

"What?"

"Turn on the news, man!"

Hands shaking slightly, Barry pulled out his phone.

Every channel.

Same headline.

A mysterious human figure had single-handedly defeated and captured the leaders of both factions, forcing an end to the war.

A photo appeared on screen.

Noah Vale.

Clear. Unmistakable.

For a moment, Barry just stared.

Then a laugh slipped out of him, half disbelief, half relief.

"I go eat one meal…"

He shook his head, smiling despite himself.

"And you rewrite the whole world."
