Chapter 107 - The First Test

Peace never lasts without being tested.

And this time—

It came sooner than expected.

The shop was busy that morning.

More than usual.

Customers moving in and out.

Orders stacking up.

For a moment—

It felt like things were finally stabilizing.

Until—

The bell rang.

And the atmosphere shifted.

Lian Hua looked up—

And immediately felt it.

That same presence.

Cold.

Controlled.

A woman stepped inside.

Elegant.

Composed.

Unfamiliar—

But not unexpected.

Zhen Wei's mother.

Silence spread through the shop.

Because even without introductions—

Her authority was obvious.

Chen Kai straightened slightly in the background.

Watching.

Lian Hua stepped forward.

"…can I help you?"

The woman's gaze rested on her—

Calm.

Evaluating.

"You must be Lian Hua."

Not a question.

Her chest tightened slightly.

"…yes."

A faint pause.

"I wanted to see you for myself," she said.

The words were polite.

But not warm.

Just… deliberate.

Zhen Wei wasn't there.

And that—

Made this moment heavier.

"I'm busy, so I'll be direct," his mother continued.

Lian Hua held her ground.

"…okay."

"You've already caused enough disruption."

The words landed cleanly.

Without emotion.

"But I can see now…"

A slow glance around the shop.

"…why he's distracted."

Silence.

Because this wasn't an argument.

It was a judgment.

"I won't repeat what's already been said," she added.

A pause.

"But I will make one thing clear."

Lian Hua's hands tightened slightly.

"You are not suitable for his world."

There it was.

Direct.

Unfiltered.

Chen Kai stepped forward slightly—

But stopped.

Because this—

Was Lian Hua's moment.

For a second—

The old fear surfaced.

The same pressure.

The same overwhelming weight.

The same reason she had let go before.

But this time—

She didn't step back.

She didn't look away.

"…maybe not," she said quietly.

Zhen Wei's mother paused.

Because that wasn't resistance.

It was something else.

"But I'm not trying to fit into it," Lian Hua continued.

Her voice steadied.

"I'm just choosing to stand beside him."

Silence filled the shop.

Because this—

This was different.

No fear.

No hesitation.

Just choice.

Zhen Wei's mother studied her for a long moment.

Then—

A faint, almost unreadable expression crossed her face.

"…we'll see how long that lasts."

And with that—

She turned.

And walked out.

The door closed softly.

But the weight she left behind—

Remained.

Chen Kai let out a slow breath.

"…that was intense."

Lian Hua didn't respond immediately.

Because her heart was still racing.

But she hadn't stepped back.

Not this time.
