Chapter 33 - The Growing Storm

The evening air was warm and heavy with the scent of blooming flowers.

Lian Hua was closing the shop, carefully arranging the last few lotuses and roses, when the bell above the door rang one last time for the day.

Chen Kai.

"Lian Hua," he said, smiling casually, though there was a boldness in his tone she hadn't seen before. "I was hoping to catch you before you left."

She took a cautious step back.

"Chen Kai… it's late. You shouldn't be here."

He shrugged.

"I don't think time matters when something—or someone—is worth it," he said, his gaze lingering on her longer than she expected.

Before she could answer, the soft sound of a car stopping outside drew her attention.

Zhen Wei.

He stepped into the shop quietly, and the air seemed to tighten instantly.

Chen Kai noticed him immediately.

"Oh, you're still here," he said lightly, though the tension in his voice betrayed him.

Zhen Wei's dark eyes fixed on Chen Kai.

"You're testing patience," he said quietly, each word sharp.

Chen Kai smirked, trying to keep his charm.

"I'm not testing anything. I just…" he glanced at Lian Hua, "…enjoyed seeing her."

Zhen Wei's jaw tightened. He took a slow step closer to Lian Hua, subtly placing himself between her and Chen Kai.

"You forget yourself," Zhen Wei said calmly, but there was a dangerous edge beneath the calm.

Lian Hua felt the energy between them—two very different forces, both pulling at her in ways she couldn't resist.

Chen Kai held up his hands in mock surrender.

"Alright… alright. I'll leave," he said, though his eyes sparkled with mischief.

Zhen Wei didn't take his eyes off him until Chen Kai finally stepped out of the shop.

Then, turning to Lian Hua, he took her hand gently in his.

"You see," he said softly, "I cannot let anyone come close to you—not even for a moment."

Her heart beat faster, and she felt a mix of fear, warmth, and something else—something she couldn't name.

"You… you're very intense," she whispered.

"I'm not just intense," he said quietly, his dark eyes holding hers. "I'm completely captivated by you."

Her fingers trembled slightly as she realized the truth.

Zhen Wei's obsession wasn't just about control—it was about love, fear, and a bond that neither of them could ignore.

And as she looked up into his eyes, she knew one thing for certain:

The storm between them was only just beginning.
