The Azure Cloud Sect buzzed with anticipation as delegations from allied and rival sects arrived for the Grand Sect Tournament. Banners fluttered in the wind, training fields echoed with clashing swords and roaring qi, and the air hummed with excitement and hidden tension.
Ling Qinghe strolled through the bustling outer plaza, Ninebro draped around his neck like a living scarf. His snow-white hair glowed under the midday sun, drawing stares as usual.
"Bro, this tournament is gonna be peak chaos," he muttered, popping a spirit fruit into his mouth. "Hope they have good food stalls."

Gu Xichen, Huo Yan, and Ye Tianlan walked with him, forming their now-familiar protective triangle. The three shot occasional glances at each other, still adjusting to the strange camaraderie.
A commotion erupted near the main gate. A new delegation had arrived—disciples from the shadowy Eclipse Valley, known for their mysterious and powerful techniques. At the front of their group stood a tall figure who made the crowd part instinctively.
Mo Xuan.
He wore dark crimson and black robes that seemed to absorb light, embroidered with subtle silver patterns resembling coiling dragons. His hair was midnight black with faint crimson streaks, falling loosely past his shoulders. Sharp, fox-like eyes glowed with lazy amusement, and his features were devastatingly handsome—elegant yet carrying an underlying danger, like a beautifully wrapped blade.
A faint, intoxicating aura surrounded him. Not quite demonic… but close enough to make sensitive cultivators uneasy.
Ninebro's ears perked up instantly. The fox leaped from Ling Qinghe's shoulders and dashed straight toward the newcomer, tails blazing with golden excitement.
" Ninebro! Wait—!" Ling Qinghe chased after him.
Mo Xuan caught the fox effortlessly, lifting him with one hand. Ninebro purred loudly, rubbing his head against the stranger's chest as if they were old friends.
"Interesting little beast," Mo Xuan said, voice smooth and velvety with a hint of dark amusement. His sharp eyes lifted and locked directly onto Ling Qinghe. For a moment, something ancient and hungry flickered in his gaze before it softened into a charming smile. "And an even more interesting master."
Ling Qinghe skidded to a stop in front of him, blue eyes wide. "Sorry about that, Dark Bro! Ninebro has zero stranger danger. He likes shiny and powerful things."
Mo Xuan chuckled, a low sound that sent a strange shiver down Ling Qinghe's spine. He handed the fox back, but his fingers deliberately brushed against Ling Qinghe's hand during the exchange. The touch was cool at first, then strangely warm, like hidden flames beneath ice.
"No apology needed," Mo Xuan murmured, gaze tracing Ling Qinghe's porcelain face and long white hair with open appreciation. "Such beauty is rare even in the cultivation world. You must be the famous Ling Qinghe I've heard whispers about."
Gu Xichen stepped forward immediately, ice qi flaring. "He is under Azure Cloud's protection."
Huo Yan crossed his arms, flames flickering at his fingertips. "Back off, Eclipse guy."
Ye Tianlan's sword hummed warningly at his side, though his expression remained politely calm.
Mo Xuan didn't seem intimidated. Instead, he smiled wider, revealing a hint of sharp canines. "Protective, aren't we? How adorable." His eyes never left Ling Qinghe. "I am Mo Xuan, a core disciple of Eclipse Valley. I look forward to facing… or rather, meeting you in the tournament, little beauty."
Ling Qinghe, completely unbothered by the intense vibe, grinned back. "Nice to meet you, Demon—I mean, Dark Bro! You give off major final boss energy. Want some ramen later? I make a mean spicy batch."
Mo Xuan laughed, genuine surprise flashing across his face. "Bold. I like that." He leaned in slightly, voice dropping. "Be careful in the tournament, Qinghe. Not everyone here has… pure intentions."
As he walked away with his delegation, Ninebro whined sadly, trying to follow. Ling Qinghe scratched the fox's ears, feeling a strange warmth linger where Mo Xuan had touched his hand.

That evening, during a pre-tournament banquet, Mo Xuan somehow ended up at the same table as Ling Qinghe's group. The atmosphere was electric with tension.
Huo Yan kept trying to one-up him with flashy flame tricks. Gu Xichen radiated cold warnings. Ye Tianlan observed quietly, sword ready. Mo Xuan, however, ignored them all in favor of subtly serving Ling Qinghe the best cuts of spirit meat and pouring him wine with elegant, almost reverent movements.
"You handle your 'bros' well," Mo Xuan said softly during a quiet moment, his crimson-streaked hair catching the lantern light. His finger brushed Ling Qinghe's again under the table. "But if you ever tire of their hovering… my valley has plenty of shadows for hiding in. And I'd make sure no one bothers you."
Ling Qinghe's cheeks warmed slightly at the intense gaze. "Bro, are you flirting or recruiting me for evil schemes? Hard to tell with that smile."
Mo Xuan's eyes darkened with amusement and something deeper. "Perhaps both. You're far too interesting to let these righteous types keep you all to themselves."
Ninebro, traitor that he was, had curled up in Mo Xuan's lap, purring contentedly as the disguised Demon Lord absently stroked his golden fur.
Gu Xichen's hand found Ling Qinghe's under the table in a rare show of possessiveness. Huo Yan's arm draped over his shoulders. Ye Tianlan offered a gentle smile while positioning himself protectively.
Ling Qinghe laughed, the sound bright amid the growing storm of rivalries.
